Clang! Clang!
The collision of swords echoed through the area. Gavin was thrown back, his foot dragging against the ground, water splashing. He stabbed his sword into the ground to stop himself from retreating further back.
"Roarrrrrr!" Roger's roar thundered as he lunged forward again, moving like a wild beast ready to run through its target. Gavin lifted his sword, his hands slightly numb. He was distracted by the strange energy coming out of Roger's body, and that made him unable to fight at his best.
He kept doing his best to suppress the urges to kill over and over again. He wasn't able to give his best due to that. Roger slashed upward and Gavin blocked.
Clang!
The collision thundered. Gavin's hand was knocked up, his eyes widened, the strength of Roger had exponentially increased. Just a moment ago, he was capable of blocking the attacks, but now Roger had blasted through them with ease. There was no time to cast, no time to counter.
'Do I use it? I can't use it in such a place and for such a reason, but if I don't…' Gavin was locked in a delicate thought, but he didn't need to think for long as a massive fire sword cut through the air and slammed right into Roger, stabbing his lower back and knocking him to the ground, rolling.
"Arghhhhhh!" Roger roared in pain and tried to get up, but the moment his head was raised, a powerful kick from Raze landed right on it, sending him down to the ground again.
Everyone was stunned. Even when Roger used his curse, he was beaten up. Raze stood over him with a sinister smile on his face. "You gave off a pretty strong aura. Sadly, you couldn't back it up," he said before kicking Roger right in the side of his head. The rage in Roger was still rushing out and he tried to get up and attack, but Raze stomped his face down to the ground and then followed with another stomp.
"I—" Stomp "just—" Stomp "want—" Stomp "to—" Stomp "take my freaking exams and get into the academy already!" Raze went all out, stomping on Roger's face, a scene that stunned everyone.
"Why does everything just have to be against us? Why can't I just get to the academy in peace?" Raze asked, sounding completely exasperated.
He looked at the others and they all had their eyes on him, showing shock. "What? He had it coming," Raze said, and that was something they couldn't argue about.
"Let's go already," he said and moved to walk out of there like nothing ever happened, but then Ella didn't move. She stared at Luka.
"Luka, please, come with us. The gutters aren't safe, with more people like Roger here," Ella said, but Luka shook his head.
"Don't try to do charity work, really, just leave. Please," he said.
Ella opened her mouth to speak but then froze. She nodded and then turned to leave when suddenly, an ear-piercing screech cut through the air. Everyone turned around and saw Roger on the ground, writhing and shaking, his mouth open wide and a strange black gas coming out of it, his body bent in so many ways that it looked grotesque and painful.
Tears appeared all over his body and the black gas started pouring out even more. Raze looked at this, a frown forming on his face. He immediately used God's Eyes to take a look at it as well, and he saw the energy that was unique to the infected and the abominations. But he couldn't see more. Without choice, he opened the Third Eye, and the moment it opened, he saw it.
Roger's core was surrounded by the strength curse that he had gotten, the Curse of Rage, and when it was activated, he needed to show his rage. Yet today, he got jumped by a bunch of kids and was unable to show that rage at all.
Due to that, he had broken the curse, and the repercussions had taken place, turning him into whatever it was that he was turning into right now.
'Why would someone take such a curse with such a drawback?' Raze wondered. The situation had taken a nasty turn, and this thing wasn't Roger anymore. If they didn't run now, they might not have the chance to again.
"We have to run! Everyone run now if you don't want to die!" Raze yelled. He looked over at Gavin and saw him staring at the creature Roger was becoming.
"Gavin, we have to go now!" He rushed out and grabbed Gavin. Everyone scattered—the people that had been watching all ran away. Everyone could tell there was trouble now.
Luka grabbed Cindy and ran along with the other girl. He looked back at Ella one last time before running away. Ella watched them leave, her heart heavy, and it showed on her face, but there was no time to stand around, they had to leave.
Roger, at this point, had twisted into some sort of grotesque monster. It was black, over seven feet tall, with sinking red eyes and elongated arms and legs, sharp fingers, and an arched back, it was the stuff of nightmares.
As they ran, the abomination leaped high into the air, targeting the main victim of its rage, Raze. It came down like a meteor. Raze had his God's Eye activated, so when he sensed the attack, he reacted as fast as he could, pushing Riker and Ella to the side before it could reach them. He jumped out of the way as well, and so did Gavin.
The abomination slammed into the ground and the entire floor beneath it exploded into a crater. Dust rose, and its eyes pierced through it, locking on Raze again. It lunged forward, hands stretched out to kill.
Raze reacted fast, using a stream of flames immediately, high-powered and compressed. It hit the target, burning its face badly. It let out another echoing screech and then grabbed Raze by the leg, ignoring the pain of the flames. It swung Raze back to where he came from so hard he slammed into a building, breaking through it.
