"Let's have dinner, shall we?"
His words had barely been heard when he blurred. The guards on the makeshift walls were alarmed, looking around warily.
Leon appeared between two of them, then gripped their necks tightly. The two first-level evolved couldn't resist at all.
Snap!
Their necks snapped and they dropped like sandbags.
"K-kill him!"
The others who saw this were horrified and quickly took out their weapons. Someone unsheathed medieval weapons while some took guns.
Before they could attack him, the third-level crow glided down and waved its talons.
Barely perceptible slash marks appeared mid-air and dismembered the evolved. Looking at the gory scene, Leon couldn't help but be surprised at the mutated crow's power.
With the guards taken out, he had no reason not to advance inside.
Gathering strength into his thighs, he leaped from the walls and landed into the center of the residential area.
Boom!
His fall was like that of a meteorite, shaking the whole shelter and announcing his presence.
The normal humans who had been idling around scrammed, screaming and tumbling upon each other.
Looking at the scene, Leon scowled.
"Disgusting…"
He blurred again. Before his speed, these humans were like snails. He sliced up about fifteen of them before an evolved group finally arrived.
"Stop!" One of them shouted horrified by the scene. Dismembered bodies littered the ground, their carcasses filled with claw marks.
Leon regarded them with a teasing smile.
"Oh. The real dishes have arrived." He slowly licked the blood off his wrist.
"I'll handle him. Check if there are others."
One evolved said, stepping forward with his battle-axe. He was a second level evolved and believed he could face the enemy.
Seeing him face the enemy, the remaining evolved felt relieved and hurried to check the surroundings.
"Ey, ey, you shouldn't be too hasty, no?"
Leon's chuckle sounded much closer, forcing them to turn back. He was standing next to the second level evolved, his left hand hung around the guy's shoulder.
In his right hand, was a still-beating heart.
The air froze as the evolved were unable to believe their eyes.
"I don't think I've eaten an evolved's heart before, let's see…"
Right before their eyes, he took a large bite out of the heart. Blood smeared his lips as he chewed with closed eyes, savoring the taste of raw flesh.
"It's… magnificent."
He grinned, then threw the rest at the crow in the air. Ever sharp, the crow caught it and easily devoured it.
Caw! Caw!
Finally, his gaze turned to the petrified evolved. "I can't waste my time on fodders."
The next thing they knew, their necks were slashed through, spurting fountains of blood. Leon didn't bother finishing them off. Instead, he let them die slowly and continued his journey.
Anywhere he passed, slaughter ensued. The normal humans were like weeds waiting to be cut. He carefully handpicked those he felt like eating, and only dropped them when he was done. Still, it was strange as he didn't encounter any other evolved on his way to the hotel.
Holding a woman by her neck, he took another bite from her shoulder and looked at the structure before him in amusement.
....
"Boss…"
Someone's nervous voice echoed from the reception hall. All the remaining evolved had gathered, standing behind Hurata. They were all frightened by this mad evolved who was killing and eating his prey.
Hurata didn't reply, but his expression was grim. He also realized that the enemy was probably a third level evolved like him.
'Damn it! I didn't expect them to actually have one.'
He already had a guess about Leon's origin. Right now, his brain was working in overdrive on how to stop him. Negotiations? Impossible! With what he had done to Sylvia, there was no way he could negotiate. The only path forward was a fight to death.
Watching as Leon ate a naked woman made his blood run cold.
"Ah, fuck it!"
He gritted his teeth, then raised his hammer.
"Attack him!"
Seeing their boss ready to fight, the other evolved were relieved and charged. Raising swords, machetes, spears, and axes, they all charged at the crazed evolved.
Leon gladly welcomed their assault with an inhuman howl.
Blood, flesh, and screams filled the air as he tore through them, ignoring their attacks which failed to even damage his skin. He didn't bother playing with them and instead went for the most effective killing methods. He broke necks, plucked hearts, and sliced several heads off. It was pure cruelty.
Watching the evolved he had painstakingly nurtured being killed, Hurata's eyes turned bloodshot.
"Damn you!"
He raised his hammer and attacked Leon. In a second, he appeared before the bloodied man and swung his hammer.
Boom!
The attack connected with a loud smack as Hurata stumbled back. He quickly looked up to see that Leon had blocked his attack with the body of another evolved. The poor evolved had been turned to meat paste.
"Coward!"
Indignant and furious, Hurata screamed and attacked again. This time, Leon also swung his hand to meet the attack head-on.
Pa!
Unlike the loud sound one expected to hear, the collision only produced a sound akin to slapping a wall.
'What—?'
Hurata's eyes bulged as he watched his hammer held down by Leon's grip. It wouldn't even budge.
'Crazy!'
He had miscalculated. Perhaps, this crazed evolved was already at the fourth level. Without hesitation, he immediately activated his class ability.
[Berserk]
Just like Ye Ming's transformation, his body swelled and expanded, becoming an eight feet giant.
"Not bad, not bad."
Leon finally spoke, his lips curled. He wanted something challenging. With bloodshot eyes, Hurata attacked him.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The sound of their blows shook the hotel behind them, sounding like claps of thunder.
"Haha—hahahahahahaha! That's it!" Leon laughed with a feral grin as he felt his arms trembling. "That's more like it! More! More! More! More!!!"
He eagerly engaged Hurata and fought fiercely. A blow of the hammer slammed into his gut with a loud bang. His insides instantly turned to mush, but he didn't care. When had an undead ever had to care about organs?
Instead, he held the hammer tightly and wretched it from Hurata's tyrannical grip. He didn't bother holding it and simply discarded it, eyes glinting with madness.
"Let's fight to the death!"
...…
Half an hour later, the camp was in ruins. All of the normal humans were dead, either killed by the crow, or crushed in the aftermath of Leon and Hurata's fight.
Leon was standing in the middle of a crater, his feet pressed firmly against Hurata's chest. His right arm was broken and mangled, but would heal in minutes.
As for Hurata, his case was worse. Almost every bone in his body was broken. Even his skill had cracked. The only thing keeping him alive was the tenacity of an evolved.
"Why?"
He coughed out the word hoarsely despite the bones piercing his lungs.
"Why… you say?"
Leon finally lowered his head to look at the man. His face was calm, no longer containing any excitement.
"Aren't you all sinners? I simply killed you all and consumed your sins. Be grateful."
He spoke with a conviction that made Hurata's eyes widen. He found those words absurd and insane.
Leon didn't mind the look he received from the man and smiled. Did Leon think he was a saint? No, he was far from that. But he wasn't entirely evil too. He only believed in principles.
'As long as I have a reason to kill you, you're dead.'
"Why…? Why did you involve everyone? You could have simply come for me."
Hurata groaned, trying to understand him.
"Well, that's true. However, it'd be inconvenient leaving them behind." Leon's answer was once again incomprehensible, making the Japanese man feel helpless.
"Ha—ha."
Hurata let out a broken laugh, not understanding Leon's reasoning till he died.
Seeing the man die before him, Leon felt nothing but hunger.
'After consuming him, I should advance to the next level, right?'
His evolution had already reached 86% after consuming several evolved in this shelter. However, before he could begin his feast, the crow interrupted him.
Caw! Caw!
Casting a displeased gaze at the bird, he wondered why it was disturbing him again. Still, the bird cawed again and flew into the hotel.
Stuck between curiosity and hunger, Leon chose the middle option. He carried Hurata's body and consumed it while walking into the hotel.
The crow led him to a room on the fifth floor. Stepping inside, Leon's eyes widened.
Sylvia was hanging from the ceiling, a rope tied around her neck. Her clothes were in tatters while several whip marks marred her body, even opening up bleeding wounds.
From between her legs, thick white liquid flowed, a testament of repeated rape she had suffered.
"That's… quite cruel."
Leon was surprised, though he felt no particular sympathy for her. This fact made him frown slightly. What if it had been his sister? Would he have been enraged? He had no idea, and couldn't answer the question. In the end, he dismissed the thought. Something else caught his attention.
"Eh? She's not dead?"
