Shadow Weaver: Sole Heir Of The Night

Chapter 62: Irresponsible

Together all of them made their way out of the lobby and took a sharp left to the side of the spire where a massive workshop was situated.

There they were measured for their Dual Moon standard-issue uniforms. The institute's year wouldn't start until the next week, within that time they would receive their uniforms and ID cards for the academic year.

But today? It was just for formalities and documentations.

During those formalities, Enzo got to know Zeke much better. He was a young Star Weaver from a prominent family in Zhuqur City, in the flatlands of the northern isles.

Although extremely talented, his family saw no need for his presence as it would only be a distraction for his more talented younger brother. Zeke didn't seem angry about this, however, seeing it was normal in northern society to send their children to boarding schools and the likes after their first voyage.

For Zeke, the Dual Moon Institute was an opportunity to show his family that he was just as "talented" as his brother.

"A blue star isn't considered talented in your family? What? Are you guys a bunch of monsters in your household ?" Enzo couldn't help but ask with a bitter smile, these nobles were a crazy bunch.

But Yeah, it didn't quite make sense that someone with the second-highest star core would be referred to as talentless in this society.

"Ehnn, the blue star thing… let's just keep that to ourselves. No one from my family can ever know," Zeke explained coyly then proceeded to give Enzo a few cunning lies to tell his parents in case he were to ever encountered them.

It became obvious at that point that Zeke was lying to his parents about his star core and was probably just playing hooky by joining the institute or didn't want them to control his future.

Enzo of course was no rat, he would keep his secret well. Partly of course because it was none of his business.

"What about you, princess? Why are you here? I'm sure your family would love for you to train with them directly," Zeke turned to the girl with black and white hair as they exited the workshop together.

Most prominent families had in-house programs to train their top offspring; it kept them safe and made sure they were loyal to them, otherwise was quite rare.

"Hm?" Instead of responding to Zeke, however, she merely shook her head and looked forward, walking at a tempered pace, leaving him hanging.

Soon they reached the gates of the compound and stopped.

"That's my ride, see you guys next week," Zeke waved at them as a purple carriage with no driver nor horse slowly came to a stop in front of him.

"Hehe, rich kids."

Enzo thought in his head, waving back at Zeke as he watched him leave on his luxurious ride. He still had to wait here for Mr. White.

And so he did. Under the blistering cold, he stood waiting for Mr. White. He watched others exit the workshop and board a plethora of different vehicles and leave, but he just stood there watching.

Fortunately, he wasn't alone.

Raven, the girl with white and black hair, stood right beside him, not moving an inch. She didn't even seem to be affected by the cold.

Soon darkness fell, and the two could only take shelter under the guardroom's roof.

"So… Winald, it's a strange name. Are you from around here?" Enzo asked, trying to strike up conversation. Raven was generally cold, but she didn't seem proud, opting to stick with them from the very beginning until now.

That was saying a lot, as several others had tried to bring her close and she had shut them all down.

"I'm not from here. We are the same," she responded rather too formally while peering into the darkness of the night.

The two of them were in a strange place with strange practices and cultures; it made sense for them to find solace in each other.

"Ahh, yes…" Enzo smiled. He had picked up that conversation starter from Zeke — asking about family was a good way to start a conversation.

But that wasn't the only reason he asked that.

Truth was… he had heard that name before… a long time ago.

"Lights."

Before they could speak more, a pair of motor lights shone in the dark and drove past them, causing them to focus.

They were both waiting for someone to pick them up; clearly, their mentors were a bit irresponsible.

So they waited some more, the cold drawing them closer and closer to each other under the lights of the guardroom. Only the two existed.

Finally, however, a voice sounded, drawing Enzo's attention.

It was Mr. White.

"Sorry for being so late, my boy. I had to teach that good for nothing brother of mine a lesson," Mr. White said, clearly annoyed at himself and his brother. The two of them just couldn't see eye to eye.

"Get on, let's go," Mr. White said, to which Enzo nodded and complied.

However, before they could leave, Raven suddenly moved and stood before their bike, blocking the way.

"Ohh, it's you? Is your guardian running late?" Mr. White recognized her from the testing stage. She was the one with the twin stars.

"My guardian isn't coming…" she responded with determined eyes.

"Ohh, then maybe I can drop you off…" Mr. White was at a loss for words. What kind of irresponsible parent did she have?

"No, she left the planet several hours ago and left me with this message," Raven said, handing out a small transmitter that read:

"Find yourself a responsible adult to leech off of," the message read.

"I'm heading to the Orion's Belt for a little fun."

Mr. White blinked. "You've got to be kidding me…"

Enzo looked at Raven — the girl with twin stars, abandoned in the Dual Moon Institute — he couldn't tell if he should laugh or feel sorry.
