Aron's hair whipped wildly in the wind, the once-black strands now streaked with white.
Hovering high in the sky, he looked down with icy calm.
A sphere of lightning crackled in his palm, hissing and bending the air around it.
For a moment, Aron gazed at it, silent, distant, before flicking his wrist and sending the glowing orb hurtling toward the spectators below.
He could have annihilated every last one of them with a mere snap of his fingers.
Yet he only stood there, suspended above the world, expression unreadable.
The lightning sphere tore through the air, distorting space itself wherever it passed.
It screamed downward, sweeping through the crowd of rescuers rushing toward D-One.
To them, the attack moved in terrible slow motion.
Faces twisted with disbelief, horror, and sheer unwillingness to die as the sphere erased them one after another, evaporating flesh, shattering stone, obliterating everything within a two-mile radius.
And still, it moved unhindered.
Just as the blazing orb neared D-One, Jergenmay appeared, materializing out of nowhere.
Her face was pale, her lips stained with blood, her once-elegant aura reduced to exhaustion.
With a flicker of trembling light, she conjured a thin shield around herself, Ana, and D-One.
Aron didn't even blink.
The lightning ball met the shield, then passed through it effortlessly, like mist.
It pierced straight through Jergenmay's chest.
Instead of exploding, the attack left a gaping wound that made her cough up blood.
Light gathered around the injury, desperately trying to mend it, but the residual lightning clung to her like poison.
It devoured her strength from within, shocking both body and soul until she collapsed to the ground, trembling in agony.
Aron simply watched, his face calm, detached.
The sphere continued its path and shot toward D-One.
Ana, battered and bloodied but newly conscious, stumbled forward to shield him.
The orb struck.
Unlike Jergenmay, Ana didn't even have time to scream, her body vaporized instantly, scattering into nothingness.
The same merciless fate as the others.
And then...
The sphere turned back toward the sky.
Aron's eyes bled crimson, froth spilling from his mouth as his body convulsed in agony from some unseen force.
The lightning ball veered toward him, mere inches away...
Then, from D-One's mouth, a desperate female voice cried out:
"Elcandenz Farnkel Anzle Wishikal!"
The words echoed like thunder.
Instantly, Aron vanished.
The orb vanished.
Both gone without a trace, as if they were nothing but mere illusion.
...
Darkness swallowed Aron's vision as he suddenly felt gravity's crushing pull.
He was no longer flying, no longer in control.
His body plummeted like a broken star, and before him, the unstable lightning sphere reappeared, tumbling alongside him as they both fell from the heavens.
Aron gritted his teeth, conjuring a shimmering water barrier before him.
The orb detonated in front of his face...
A blinding flash.
Then, nothing.
Darkness claimed him as he plummeted into the forest below, crashing through trees before everything went silent.
--
When Aron disappeared, the world finally grew still again.
Jergenmay writhed weakly on the ground, light flickering over her trembling body.
Moments later, D-One stirred.
Blinking groggily at the ruins that had once been Zone B, he whispered hoarsely, "...Solara?"
No answer.
"Solara! Solara, answer me, goddammit!"
He shouted until his voice broke...but silence was his only reply.
His gaze darted across the devastated landscape, searching for Ana and Levi. Nothing.
Checking his own status only deepened his dread, his shared abilities were gone.
His heart gave a single heavy thump, fear seizing him.
But he forced the thought away and rushed to Jergenmay's side.
Her skin was cold as ice, yet sparks of lightning still danced beneath it, tearing her apart from within.
"What happened?" he demanded, kneeling beside her.
Before she could respond, the sky darkened.
A massive shadow swept overhead.
Both of them looked up, and froze.
Thousands upon thousands of luminous bubbles were descending from the heavens, drifting down like an otherworldly rain.
