Yuslev felt hope surge through his heart as he thought about the future of the world, and he narrowed his eyes at the convoy coming towards him as his resolve strengthened. Most people would normally never think of attacking this convoy since there were so many powerful people in it. But Yuslev wasn't a normal person. He was a Ruler, one of the strongest men in the world, and he knew that he had more than enough power to eradicate everyone on this bridge!
[Sir, the team at Core City is asking for confirmation to attack.]
"Tell them to wait for my signal. We need to draw the attention of the masses towards Los Angeles before we begin the attack on Core City. What I am about to do here is to secure the present, but the lives we will take in Core City will secure our future. Do not rush."
[Yes, sir. Praise to the New Order.]
Yuslev's lips widened into a maniacal smile.
"Praise to the New Order."
....
Down on the bridge, the superhuman convoy was making its way toward the Los Angeles airport. The SMD conference for the various heads of superhuman guilds had ended only a few hours ago, and the SMD took it upon themselves to make sure that the guild leaders were transported back to their various cities in maximum comfort! In one of the large Range Rovers, the leader of the B Rank Hornet Guild, Madam Rose, was sitting with her hands folded and a scowl on her face. Madam Rose was mentally exhausted after going through the greetings and talks from the various guild leaders, and now she just wanted to get back home!
As Madam Rose looked at all the cars driving beside them across the bridge, her thoughts slowly wandered towards Jason Marc. Rose was more than aware of all the things that had been flying around the internet about Jason. There were people calling him a demon, and some were asking for sanctions against his powers, but Rose didn't even entertain the nonsense that she was seeing! Because, unlike those people, Rose had actually seen Jason using his powers before, and Rose could tell with absolute certainty that Jason was not the sort of person to misuse his powers. Jason saved her life during that horrible collaboration between her guild and the Lightbringer guild in the Orange Gate, and ever since then, Rose has held Jason in the highest regard! So when Rose heard that Jason had formed a guild of his own, she immediately submitted an alliance offer to his guild to try to make their two guilds work together in the future. But Rose knew that there were hundreds—if not thousands—of other guilds submitting the same requests, so she wasn't going to get her hopes up.
'I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even remember my name.'
"Are you alright?"
A man spoke up from beside Madam Rose, and Madam Rose sighed as she shrugged. The man beside her was the vice captain of the Hornet Guild, George, and he could tell that there was something bothering Madam Rose, but from how she was acting, it didn't look like she was willing to talk to anyone about it. Madam Rose smiled at George and told him that she was fine, and George raised a brow at her before he suddenly narrowed his eyes as he saw something through the window.
"Hey, look at that. Don't we know that girl?"
Madam Rose turned to look at what George was pointing out, and she was shocked when she saw who was driving the car moving beside their own! It was Gina Fey! Jason's girlfriend!
'What the hell is she doing here?'
Beside the SMD convoy, Gina was laughing softly as she drove her trusty Toyota away from Los Angeles! The past few hours had been some of the most dramatic that Gina had ever experienced, and she couldn't wait to get home so she could tell Jason all about this!
In the passenger seat, Janet had her face in her hands as she hunched over in shame, but the way her shoulders shook and the slight chuckle Gina could hear from her showed Gina that Janet also found the entire situation to be fucking hilarious! After their conversation last night, Janet had asked Gina if she would come with her to her boyfriend's place to help her pick up the rest of her stuff. Gina didn't have anything else to do, so she decided that she would just tag along! Gina knew that she could simply use the shadows to take them to Los Angeles, but she wasn't in a hurry, so she decided to drive instead! But when they got to Janet's boyfriend's place, neither of them expected to find the boy in bed with some other woman! Janet had been furious when she saw this, and there was a lot of shouting and throwing of objects! Janet's boyfriend begged and tried to bring up excuses, but Janet wasn't hearing any of it, and Gina could only stand awkwardly at the side to make sure that no one got seriously hurt. When Janet finally managed to grab her things, Gina helped to make sure that her ex-boyfriend couldn't get close to her until she was out of the house.
Gina had stayed back to threaten the idiot about coming close to Janet ever again, but Gina was shocked when the boy actually tried to get her number. Gina knew that if Jason had been there, then he would have killed the boy, and since Gina would be telling Jason about this later, she knew that Jason might still kill him! Gina used a bit of pressure to scare the idiot away from her and she left after she was sure that the fool couldn't even look her in the eye anymore! On the way back home, the two women had been silent for a long time, and Gina had no idea what she could say or do to try to lighten the mood. But all of a sudden, Janet groaned while throwing her head back as she said:
"I can't believe I was so stupid."
Gina scoffed in mild amusement, and when Janet looked at her in betrayal, Gina raised a hand and said:
"You can't blame me for laughing. I can't believe you trusted a struggling musician to treat you right. Didn't you learn anything from all the Novellas we used to watch together? This is just like how Santiago betrayed Rosaline and slept with her sister in Broken Hearts! You can't ever trust a musician!"
The car fell into silence once Gina said this, and for a moment, Janet's face was stuck in a look of absolute disbelief! Was Gina really trying to use a Novella to describe her life? A feeling of intense amusement suddenly rose from somewhere deep inside Janet's heart, and she put her face in her hands as a sudden, intense laugh burst out from her! Gina joined in as she began to giggle as well, and the two girls filled the car with their laughter for a long time as they laughed at Gina's analogy. But Gina slowly came down from her laughter and simply smiled when she heard a wracked sob coming from Janet. Janet's shoulders shook, and she shivered as another sob escaped between her laughs, and Gina's smile dimmed slightly when she heard Janet speak.
"I really loved him, Gina. I… sob! I did so much for him. Why would he do this to me?"
Gina reached a hand out and rubbed it over Janet's back gently, and she spoke in an understanding tone.
"I know, Janet. I know. But this isn't the sort of love you deserve. No one should treat their partner the way he treated you. Just let it all out, you'll feel a lot better."
Gina's understanding tone and the hand on Janet's back only made her feel even worse, and it wasn't long before Janet was bawling her eyes out in the car. Gina just allowed Janet to cry for a while as she continued driving. Gina knew that it would be a long time before Janet could build back the bridges that she had burned down with her family, but Gina just hoped that Janet had learned from this experience. Just because someone tells you they love you doesn't mean they want the best for you. It was better to be alone than to chase after an idiotic dream with the wrong person. But at the end of the day, it was up to Janet to decide whether or not she would learn from all this.
