Zombie Bodyguard

Chapter 1238: He's Back...

"Young man, although I don't know what you're talking about, it is indeed a meaningful activity for young people. Besides, there will be performances, delicious food, and a lavender tour on the day, ensuring you will enjoy it," Granny Mary enthusiastically introduced.

"I see." Xiao Manxue breathed a slight sigh of relief, then asked, "Granny Mary, I have another question. I heard there have been beast attacks in the town recently. Do you know where they happened?"

Granny Mary, who was originally very warm and hospitable, changed her expression upon hearing this question. She said somewhat grimly, "Young man, those were not beasts. Although there is a forest on the other side of the town with wild animals, I have lived in Sorlin Castle for decades and have never seen beasts killing people."

Her words were somewhat vague, not clarifying the matter. Lin Tian and Miss exchanged a glance and simultaneously concluded that this Granny Mary seemed to know something.

Xiao Manxue further inquired, "From what you said, the incidents happened near the forest. If not beasts, what could it be?"

Granny Mary shook her head, repeatedly saying, "I don't know, I don't know..."

Xiao Manxue looked at Lin Tian, then turned back to Granny Mary, saying, "Thank you for your answers. We'll head upstairs now."

Granny Mary seemed lost in her memories and did not respond to Xiao Manxue's words. Lin Tian and Xiao Manxue's group walked towards the staircase, and just as they reached it, Granny Mary's haunting voice suddenly emerged.

"Young people, do not go out at night, and definitely don't play in the woods."

Lin Tian's eyes flickered, but he didn't respond to it. He just quietly said, "Okay."

Just as the four of them reached the stair landing, there was a soft snap, and the lights in the hotel lobby went out, plunging the room back into darkness. Only a few rays of twilight drifted in, creating an even more eerie atmosphere.

A creaking sound came from the door as the inn's door was pulled shut, and the last strand of light disappeared, leaving the lobby in complete darkness. A soft and indistinct sigh echoed in the darkness.

"Sixty years have passed, he has returned..."

Listening to such a lament sent a shiver down the spine, and the narrow staircase seemed to hold a sighing spirit. Lin Tian and the others subconsciously moved quietly, fearing to disturb the spirits wandering in the darkness.

The four of their rooms were on the second floor, with Xiao Manxue and Zhu Li in room 201 and Lin Tian and Rossi in room 202. The two suites were right next to each other.

"Lin Tian, put away the luggage and come to room 201," Xiao Manxue said softly as she entered room 201.

Lin Tian nodded, used the room card to open the room, stowed the luggage, and then walked with Rossi to room 201.

The suite there was a bit small, with the living room not even as big as one bedroom of the Xiao Family, but it was clean and nicely decorated. Warm-hued wallpaper, carpet, tablecloths, floral curtains, glass vases, and flower arrangements were all in place.

Zhu Li examined the decor of the small living room and obviously liked the style. Seeing Lin Tian come in, she and Xiao Manxue sat on the sofa.

"Miss, you heard Granny Mary's last sigh too, right? Sorlin Castle doesn't seem as festive as she described," Lin Tian remarked, glancing at the increasingly dark sky outside the window.

Zhu Li was the first to speak, "Yes, it startled me too. I thought Granny Mary was going to do something bizarre."

Xiao Manxue slightly furrowed her brow and asked puzzledly, "Sixty years, what does Granny Mary's mention of sixty years mean? And who is the 'he' she referred to? Is it related to the recent killings? Could it be the vampire we're dealing with?"

This series of questions hit the nail on the head, yet no one could answer her. In the room, only Zhu Li had been to Sorlin Castle before, and she had also dealt with those vampires.

Lin Tian, Xiao Manxue, and Rossi looked at Zhu Li, who slightly shook her head and said, "I don't know much either. Last time, we didn't even see the appearance of the vampire, and I just found out today about the Lavender Festival."

"There's an issue you've all overlooked. Earlier, Granny Mary said, 'Sixty years have passed, he has returned,' which implies that something must have happened in Sorlin Town sixty years ago," Lin Tian reminded.

Granny Mary's tone seemed a bit anxious and sorrowful just now, coupled with the recent killings in the town, something unpleasant must have happened sixty years ago.

Xiao Manxue looked at Zhu Li again and asked, "Zhu Li, have you investigated the town's history during your previous visit to Sorlin Castle?"

Zhu Li admitted a bit embarrassedly, "No, at that time, I was just an ordinary team member, and all tasks were arranged by Li Wenfeng, so I could not act on my own."

"You're right, without the captain's orders, you couldn't act independently. However, Li Wenfeng should have investigated Sorlin Castle's history back then. Vampires don't just show up in a place for no reason; there could be some historical reason behind their presence," Xiao Manxue analyzed.

"Perhaps it's because the town is so small. I didn't think about it at the time," Zhu Li said with slight self-reproach.

"Don't blame yourself. If Li Wenfeng doesn't investigate, we will. Zhu Li, notify the other team members to stay and rest at the inn for now. Lin Tian and I will go out to research Sorlin Town's historical documents. Until I return, no one is to act without orders," Xiao Manxue instructed seriously.

"Okay, but Granny Mary warned us not to go out at night. Sorlin Castle feels eerie, so we should be cautious," Zhu Li reminded.

Lin Tian smiled confidently, "If both I and your senior sister encounter issues, I'm afraid the entire team will be close to being wiped out."

Xiao Manxue also assured, "Zhu Li, don't worry, we'll be careful. Emphasize to the others that without my orders, no one is to act independently, understood?" She reiterated once more.

After finishing their instructions, Lin Tian and Xiao Manxue left the room and headed downstairs. The lobby remained dim, yet Lin Tian could see in the dark; the darkness did not hinder his vision.

He walked over to the door and opened it. This door seemed old; it always made a creaking noise upon being opened or closed, sounding quite eerie. Luckily, Lin Tian and Xiao Manxue were not ordinary people.

"Young people, are you going out? The sun has already set outside," Granny Mary's hoarse voice suddenly emerged from the darkness. She stood in front of a doorway on the first floor, peering at Lin Tian and Xiao Manxue.

By now, it was nightfall on the street, where dim streetlights cast their glow on the road, making the street seem even quieter.

Lin Tian turned to Granny Mary and courteously smiled, "Oh, it's Granny Mary. We want to visit the library in town. Could you tell us where it is?"
