What the god of dreams said made the first angel laugh bitterly. As he laughed, he wanted to cry too.
If he still had his tear glands he would have cried and he would have cried a lot because what was going on was too painful for him to put in words.
At the end of the day, he said, "Let me guess. You want to possess me, and you want to keep my mind intact while doing so."
The god of dreams didn't deny it. He said, "I need an angel of telepathy, seeing as things escalated far too quickly. You should be honored that I need you. At least this way, you will be able to foil that young upstart."
He had been willing to give his life to stop Legion before. But that was death and he was willing to die.
He thought he was willing to do anything to stop Legion. But at this point, he realized that there were some things that he would rather die than do. Being possessed or enslaved is one of those things that he would choose death over.
It was because he didn't want to be enslaved by the god of telepath that he was willing to die. But here he is, about to be enslaved anyway. It was a painful feeling.
Since he had nothing left to lose, the first angel asked, "If you need an angel of telepathy, why don't you take the new one instead?"
The god of dreams didn't mind that he was being questioned. He was relaxed as he replied, "If I had a choice, I wouldn't try to possess an angel like you to get the Mind Palace. I had my own plans and specialized tools that I had prepared for those plans. But things escalated too quickly, and now I don't have a choice."
"As for why I didn't pick your enemy, it is simply because I couldn't. His dreams are protected by something in the dream realm. I'm guessing it is the Aegis Shield, so he is also an undying godclad."
"So in summary, I am doing what I am doing because I have no choice to. Since I have no choice in the matter, you definitely don't have a choice either. Just stop resisting and let this happen."
The first angel sighed in regret again and again. He was wasting time, but the god of dreams didn't urge him.
The god of dreams was willing to wait for him to come to grips with his situation. The god of dreams was even willing to wait forever. After all, this was just a dream.
Time flowed differently in dreams. So what passed as a thousand years in this dream is only a blink of an eye in the physical dimension. This was why the god of dreams was so carefree and patient.
If ten thousand years are needed to wear down the first angel into submission, the god of dreams is willing to spend the ten thousand years.
After a few minutes, the first angel asked, "What do I need to do?"
The god of dreams smiled and said, "Excellent. Good decision. You won't regret it."
The first angel thought sarcastically to himself, "I won't regret it because I will lose myself and will never be able to regret anything."
But he didn't say anything. Not that saying anything will change his fate.
The god of dreams said to him, "I don't have a divine ability to forcefully subdue the mind like the pathway of telepathy. The best I can do is to make you sleepwalk."
"You will sleep, and I will give you great dreams. You can even become a god in your dreams. So you will spend the rest of your days completely happy."
"In exchange, you will sleepwalk, and I will be the one controlling your body. But this will require your assistance, or I will destroy your mind."
The god of dreams said all of these in order to make the first angel think that his opinion mattered and that it was important for him to be informed about this situation.
The god of dreams knew that making people feel that they were part of the decision-making made it easier for them to accept giving up control.
"Now follow the path to me. I will merge your dream with me so that you can enjoy bliss and I can use you to subdue the path of telepathy."
As the god of dreams spoke, a black tunnel appeared in the dream. The inside of the tunnel was pitch black without any trace of light. The sight made the first angel feel worse than he already felt about his situation.
The god of dreams encouraged him kindly, "Don't worry. This will be over soon. Fuse your hopes and dreams with me. I will help you achieve them."
"I will put an end to your suffering and pain. From here on out, you will have bliss. Once this is over, you will only enjoy what you want, and you will be able to live however you want."
The voice of the god of dreams was like a lullaby to the first angel. The fear he felt when he saw the pitch-black tunnel slowly receded until he became dazed.
He was dazed, but he hadn't lost control yet. He could still refuse to go forward if he didn't want to. However, the voice helped to calm him down and alleviate his fears.
With bus fears dulled, he stopped worrying about anything and everything. He was able to willingly step into the dark tunnel.
When he entered the tunnel, his whole world was plunged into darkness. This darkness was suffocating and thick like air. He would have panicked if not for the voice of the god of dreams constantly encouraging him.
The tunnel went on for an indeterminate amount of time. When the first angel finally came out of the other end of the tunnel, he appeared in a large dark sky of emptiness.
