Reborn as the Vampire Prince at Server Start, I am Invincible

Ch. 48

Level 20 Elite Monster

The Mired Swamp map was already dimly lit, casting a stifling and oppressive atmosphere.

Now, to enter a pitch-black cave where one couldn't see their own hand—that discomfort surged from within, down to one's very core.

Hesitating for a moment at the cave entrance, the silver-haired girl fingered the dagger at her waist, then cautiously walked inside.

A cave crawling with monsters, shrouded in unknown darkness—even entering as a group could make people panic, let alone Chen Zixuan, who was all alone.

Even though he was used to solitude, the moment he stepped into the darkness, a chill still crept up from his heart.

Where would the Witch of the Swamp launch her attack from...?

Just the thought sent an unpleasant tingle through him.

He walked forward for over ten meters, and as his eyes slowly adjusted to the dark, Chen Zixuan gradually calmed down.

No matter how realistic his surroundings seemed, he knew clearly that this was just a game.

Jagged rocks jutted from the cave walls, making for a treacherous path.

The eerie dripping of water somewhere echoed in the silver-haired girl's heart with each drop.

Treading carefully over slippery moss, Chen Zixuan squeezed through a narrow crack in the rock and suddenly found the space open up before him—it was an enormous cavern.

For a moment, the soft and warm light of a fire illuminated the girl's jewel-like blue eyes.

In most cases, seeing fire would mean the monster's lair wasn't far.

Instead of feeling nervous, Chen Zixuan felt slightly relaxed.

It seemed the game developers had a shred of integrity; at least they'd provided a campfire for illumination, instead of making him fight monsters in total darkness.

The cave hall was huge, about half the size of a basketball court, with a flat floor—a fitting place for a final showdown with the Witch of the Swamp.

The silver-haired girl took a deep breath, drew her dagger, reversed it in her delicate white hand, held her breath, and carefully advanced.

At the center of the hall, a small fire burned. Scattered about it were broken earthen jars, and what looked distressingly like fragments of animal bones.

Guided by the dim light, the silver-haired girl approached the fire—and suddenly froze.

A cold voice echoed in her mind—the system notification.

"System prompt: You have completed the hidden quest—[The Missing Granddaughter], sofina's Remains (1/1)."

On the fire, a battered iron pot was suspended, the liquid inside bubbling, wafting a sweet, meaty aroma.

Her stomach roiled—Chen Zixuan almost gagged.

Damn it, how did this game even get approved by the authorities...? Does no one check these things...?

No wonder it was a hidden quest. Was this another "special benefit" from the system?

The silver-haired girl clapped her hand over her mouth—within seconds, she cursed every ancestor of the game's developers.

It was then she realized something terrifying.

The fire was burning bright—someone had added wood recently. But where was that person now?

Above her head, it seemed there was a faint sound...

With a sense of foreboding, the silver-haired girl looked straight up—an emaciated, hunched-over figure was crawling-nimbly on a giant spider web, moving lightly as if on solid ground.

Of course, it had a human form—but who said the Witch of the Swamp had to be human?

Combat music blared, and the silver-haired girl's face blanched!

A pale-blue interface flashed before her.

**Witch of the Swamp – Elite Monster**

- Race: Human/Insect- Level: 20- HP: 4800- ATK: 185- Magic: 90- Physical Defense: 120- Magic Defense: 140-Agility: 320- Racial Skills: [Rapid Silk Spit], [Cocoon Bind], [Transformation], [Fang Pierce]

On instinct, the silver-haired girl kicked off the ground and rolled aside.

With a "sssshhh—" the spot where she had just been standing was instantly covered in a glob of sticky silk.

Perhaps because her lethal strike had been dodged by her prey, the Witch of the Swamp shrieked in rage, darting across the web on the cave's ceiling and spitting lethal webs in rapid succession!

With her high 377 agility, the silver-haired girl frantically dodged.

At this point, Chen Zixuan was on the verge of breakdown. If her true form was a spider, why call it the Witch of the Swamp?

The Witch of the Swamp, seeing that Cocoon Bind couldn't trap Chen Zixuan, quickly changed tactics. The six red eyes on her black-grey brow flickered, their pupils slowly revolving.

Six immensely thin silk threads shot silently from her eyes. A chill ran over Chen Zixuan's scalp; a surge of danger rose from deep within.

Without a second of hesitation, Chen Zixuan used [Night Raid], her level 3 skill that let her instantly teleport anywhere within three meters.

Even so, she was a fraction too slow: one thread pierced her calf, with -153 damage flashing above her head.

If she'd been struck by all six, her game would probably have ended on the spot.

The stabbing pain made the silver-haired girl's face turn slightly pale.

Whimpering, Chen Zixuan clenched his teeth and sprinted towards the entrance.

This was the Witch of the Swamp's home turf, and Chen Zixuan lacked ranged attack skills.

Protected by webs, the Witch of the Swamp was nearly unassailable.

Unless she could climb dozens of meters up onto the web, she wouldn't even get close to landing a hit.

The human-shaped spider relentlessly pursued the silver-haired girl, spitting webs with seemingly no cooldown.

Even as Chen Zixuan picked up speed, the gap only narrowed.

As she was about to catch up, a grotesque smile split the Witch of the Swamp's tumor-ridden face.

When their distance narrowed to twenty meters, she suddenly leapt from her web, eight sharp spider legs flaring out, pouncing straight at the girl!

But this was exactly what Chen Zixuan had been waiting for. The dagger in her hand flashed silver, and with a whip of her arm, she threw it behind her.

The sharp blade noiselessly pierced the Witch of the Swamp's frail frame, dealing 468 true damage and interrupting her transformation.

Half-transformed into a spider, the Witch of the Swamp was knocked away by the force, crashing from high above to the floor—giving Chen Zixuan several precious seconds.

Chen Zixuan didn't press for another hit nor lingered to fight. She darted straight out through the cave entrance, squeezed through the low, dark tunnel, and once again saw a glimpse of light outside.

Without the protection of the cave's webs, no matter how strong an elite monster was, it would be at her mercy!
