Falling towards the ground in a panic, Shu and El both let out a roar almost simultaneously. They didn't want trouble, but trouble always came knocking. Even when they just wanted a quiet night in the city, they encountered a Beast Tide, a disaster that's rare to see in a century. Even though all they wanted now was to quickly shake off the relentless monster birds and find Li Xingfeng's family, they didn't expect these monster birds to be so persistent. That sneak attack just now almost made them fall straight to the ground.
As the roar echoed, invisible winds expanded from their bodies, forming two massive tornadoes. From afar, the two tornadoes looked like two columns formed before the heavens and the earth, with beasts and debris occasionally flying through them.
With rage burning in their eyes, the two looked at the oncoming monster birds. Their bodies moved slightly, and the tornadoes followed their forms to meet the monster birds. The powerful suction drew in the monster birds, and in just one breath, they were shredded to pieces, not even leaving a single feather intact.
The sudden burst of power from the two intimidated the remaining monster birds. Shu glared coldly at the few monster birds and bellowed: "Get lost!" The rolling waves of sound, carrying an overwhelming momentum and strong wind pressure, surged towards the monster birds.
With a series of frantic cries, the birds flapped their wings hurriedly retreating. Although these birds were not very intelligent, facing such means and power from the two, they were scared. So, after Shu's shout, they fled in all directions. Shu and El also finally got a moment of peace, not daring to pause even for a second. They dispelled the tornadoes and quickly transformed into gales, flying towards Li Xingfeng's home.
The originally very short journey now seemed incredibly long. Across the endless wilderness, there were ferocious beast packs everywhere. It seemed as if all the beasts in the wilderness had been mobilized, continuously charging towards Yu'an City. Above their heads, flocks of dark birds continuously flew over, but the sharp murderous aura emanating from the two prevented those bird flocks from daring to come near.
In such a tense moment, El had no idea how long he flew or how far he went. Anyway, when he began to see sparse and dilapidated houses appearing on the ground, he finally breathed a sigh of relief, having finally reached where Li Xingfeng lived. But then he let out a furious roar, diving towards the ground.
Surrounding the sparse buildings in the wilderness was a group of beasts. Fortunately, these were just ordinary beasts, emitting unsettling roars around the houses, with a scene of flesh and blood everywhere. On the ground, there were many incomplete corpses. From the limbs, it could be determined that these were human corpses, mixed in with a few beast corpses, but far fewer in number.
Some houses were already completely destroyed, with a beast dragging a struggling person outwards. As soon as the person was pulled out, they were devoured by a horde of beasts, and even their dying screams were drowned out by the sound of beasts gnawing on flesh. The beasts, having tasted flesh, became even more ferocious, continuously roaring and charging at the already dilapidated houses.
There weren't many people left here; including Li Xingfeng's family of four, there were only nine people left, and the other five were all injured, some hanging by a thread.
El felt enraged because someone was about to throw Li Xingfeng's youngest brother out. That person just wanted to delay their own death, and resorted to such a beastly act. Just earlier, Li Xingfeng had saved his life from the jaws of a beast, and in such a critical moment, he repaid kindness with betrayal.
"Bastard." El cursed angrily, snatching the child from that person's hands, then kicked them into the beast pack. The wails were immediately drowned out by the sounds of gnawing.
El hovered in the air with a murderous look, glancing at the remaining four people who were half-dead. With a flick of his finger, he killed all the beasts lunging forward, then turned to Li Xingfeng, whose face was covered in blood. This kid wasn't wounded much but had exhausted a lot of energy. Judging by his pale lips and slightly trembling body, he was on the verge of collapsing. If not for his siblings, he would've fallen long ago.
"Xingfeng, you alright?" Shu also descended, looking at Li Xingfeng's blood-covered face. He naturally emanated a mysterious aura, with a thread-like thin strand swirling around him, fluttering gently with the wind. Yet each movement of the strand caused a blood fountain to rise, soon piling up beast corpses around Shu.
In a semi-conscious state, completely unaware of what was happening around him, Li Xingfeng lifted his dazed yet murderously filled blood-red eyes. When he saw the faces of the two hovering before him, the original unfocused eyes gradually regained their shine, finally allowing him to see the faces of Shu and El clearly.
Then, Li Xingfeng let out a cry of "waa" and fell backward. Fortunately, Shu reacted quickly, catching Li Xingfeng, preventing him from falling into the beast pack. After a quick check, seeing that Li Xingfeng was alright, Shu breathed a sigh of relief. Though their time with Li Xingfeng wasn't long, Shu and El developed a profound bond with him. More importantly, they owed Li Xingfeng their lives, so they had no reason to leave him behind.
"He's okay. Let's head back quickly. Who knows what trouble those guys might cause?" Shu picked up Li Xingfeng and a child, turning to El.
El picked up the other two children, and they were about to leave, using the Wind Force within them. But at this moment, the remaining four people pleaded, "Please, don't leave us." Their voices trembled, filled with the fear of death, and the dense beast roars from all around made their hearts tremble. If left here, they would surely die.
However, Shu and El were not from a charity, nor were they heroes willing to sacrifice themselves. Having a bandit-like background, they were unlikely to perform acts of heroism. They coldly glanced at the four, and Shu pulled out a few rough spears from his ring, tossing them beside the four to fend for themselves. The ring was a token passed down from Tang Mu, surprisingly functioning like a mini mobile storage, allowing them to store items. However, Shu and El couldn't quite understand how it worked.
After throwing down the spears, they didn't even glance at the ashen-faced four, using the Wind Force to fly towards Yu'an City. They hadn't flown far when they felt a tremendous rumble from the ground, with the air around them heating up like boiling water, a massive pressure emanating from behind. Even before turning to look, they heard a beastly roar echoing from behind.
A beastly roar startled the fierce beast packs on the ground, the dark bird flocks above halting, then fleeing in all directions. With the roar, Shu and El felt the air around them heating in waves, the scenery before them slightly distorting under the heat. What kind of beast had such power? Shocked in their hearts, they turned to look back while speeding forward, seeing a giant beast resembling a fiery stegosaurus charging toward them.
The beast spewed thick black smoke from its nose while charging, which turned into two fiery columns upon encountering the wind, burning the surrounding vegetation and beasts to ashes. This beast had six sturdy legs, with a mane like flames extending from its back to its tail. At the end of the tail was a blazing fireball. No matter how you looked at it, this was a monster, not just a beast. The monster had three pairs of water-tank-sized eyes, the top pair appearing fiery red as if flames were burning within.
"What the hell is this thing?" Shu cursed at the sight of the bizarre-looking beast. Even with his wide experiences, he'd never seen such a strange beast, and this monster was chasing them, spewing fire, intending to burn them into charcoal.
