Chapter 991: Shoot Them Down Directly

"Alright. You may join." The middle-aged man nodded, acknowledging Babu and his group's strength. "All superpower users follow me to the city wall to drive those strange birds away. Swear to defend Yu'an City to the death!"

"Swear to defend Yu'an City to the death!" A thunderous roar echoed within the city, causing the earth on the city wall to tremble and fall.

A group of superpower users, led by the middle-aged man, quickly ascended the city wall and formed a defensive formation with great speed. These strange birds were troublesome for ordinary people but not so much for superpower users. Any random superpower user could easily deal with these swooping feathered creatures.

As soon as Babu and the six others reached the city wall, they simultaneously emitted an extremely eerie cry from their mouths. It was a sharp sound, somewhere between a bird's call and a beast's roar, both clear yet deep. It was a sound that, despite its seemingly brightening effect, gave an eerie and chilling sensation. Upon hearing this sound, the people around Babu shuddered involuntarily, not understanding why these seven blood-soaked terrifying individuals suddenly went mad and produced such strange notes.

However, while the people on the city wall were puzzled, the black flock of birds overhead began to panic. Chaotic and frightened bird cries resounded, and the previously orderly birds fluttered their wings and scattered in all directions. Some, completely panicked, collided with each other and fell to the ground with a thud. Some birds, less courageous, stiffened upon hearing the sound from Babu's group and plummeted straight from the sky.

Seeing the chaos that suddenly broke out among the flock above, everyone was momentarily stunned and naturally linked it to the strange sound from Babu and the others. No one expected that just the eerie sound from these seven individuals could repel the dense flock overhead in such a frantic retreat.

With the greatest threat gone, the only remaining problem was the beasts on the ground. But another unexpected thing happened. A dozen strange birds with wingspans of seven or eight meters, glimmering with various colors, hovered in mid-air, glaring intently at the people on the city wall. While all the birds were fleeing in panic, only these dozen birds hovered in the air, showing no sign of panic and did not flee. They ignored Babu and the others' sounds yet had eyes full of murderous intent. They were a group of fierce feathered creatures, and everyone shivered involuntarily at the sight of those shimmering multicolored birds. The most troublesome problem wasn't over yet.

Before those dozen birds could attack, the superpower users on the city wall shouted in unison and launched their counterattack. Various lights intertwined, soaring into the sky, targeting the dozen birds.

Yet the dozen birds merely hovered quietly in mid-air, and when they saw people on the ground attacking, they revealed a human-like disdain in their eyes. One bird, shining with a green glow, suddenly flapped its wings, creating a strong wind that completely suppressed the incoming attacks. Then a red bird flicked its wings, causing hundreds of feathers to fall and transform into blazing Fire Feathers, which hurtled downwards.

The torrent of fire-feathers, dense like rain, fell upon the city wall and inside the city. The superpower users on the wall fared better, as they could use their power to fend off the Fire Feathers. However, the ordinary people inside the city weren't so lucky. As soon as a Fire Feather touched them, flames engulfed their entire body, reducing them to charcoal within a few breaths. Simultaneously, the falling Fire Feathers ignited buildings within, causing numerous fires. It forced ordinary people inside to start extinguishing the blaze, lest this single fire turns everything inside the city to ashes.

Just two birds demonstrated such power, leaving the initially confident superpower users shaken. They had never encountered such troublesome strange birds, yet now retreat wasn't an option. The few large birds clearly wouldn't spare the city's people.

"Wind Element superpower users form groups and force those big birds down. Damn it, I don't believe they can be so arrogant on the ground. All Water Element users go into the city to help extinguish fires and save people, Earth Element users build a defensive framework, Fire Element users standby on the wall." The middle-aged man calmly issued command after command. He wasn't intimidated by those two feathered creatures. Since there were beasts with abilities outside the city, birds with powers weren't odd either.

Everyone began to act hastily, except the Fire Element superpower users and Babu's group of seven, who remained still. Babu was squinting at the dozen birds hovering in the sky, flashing in various colors. While still in the mountains, he heard the elders in his tribe mentioning such birds, though he had never seen them himself—until today, when he encountered over a dozen.

"Any way to lure them down or directly strike them down?" Babu asked softly to Jijike beside him. Handling distant targets was Jijike's specialty, especially in preparing various lures.

Jijike scrutinized the birds hovering in mid-air and then shook his head, "No way. They're too smart and have powers akin to the Divine Envoy. Unless the Divine Envoy steps in, there's no way." Jijike knew his capabilities and didn't speak out of turn.

"Then there's no way. I thought I could hunt one or two of these legendary things." Babu chuckled with a grin. Although he couldn't hunt the birds overhead, he didn't view them as a major threat.

As Babu and Jijike conversed, a dozen Wind Element superpower users divided into two groups and ascended the sky. As they neared the birds, they simultaneously launched a joint attack, trying to influence the birds' movements with wind.

However, they mistook the birds for ordinary ones and didn't realize these birds were also creatures with abilities. When the Wind Element users launched their attack, a large bird glowing with white light let out a sharp cry, spitting out a gust of cold mist that forced the surrounding Wind Element users to retreat. Two who retreated a little slower turned into ice sculptures, nearly falling from the sky, but their quick-acting peers managed to grab them.

The setback right after engaging was a considerable blow to the Wind Element users but also made them more cautious, avoiding rash entry into the birds' range of attack. Since their powers were ineffective, they chose a different approach.

"Use weapons," one Wind Element user ordered, skillfully activating Energy Activation of the weapon he unhooked from his back.

To avoid the birds sensing their movements, they circled the birds at high speed. Suddenly, a red energy ball erupted, striking a large bird directly. The bird let out a mournful cry and plunged to the ground. While powers couldn't harm these birds, their energy weapons could. These energy weapons could even down superpower users. And they had just launched a surprise attack.

When the first bird was struck down, the remaining birds were startled, quickly flapping their wings to ascend higher. They weren't foolish, understanding that the humans had used special methods against them. From their beaks came sharp, angry screeches, alongside various abilities being unleashed.

The sky is naturally the birds' domain, and engaging in aerial combat with birds is unwise, especially against a group of powerful birds. Aside from the few birds felled in the initial sneak attack, the Wind Element users couldn't hit even a single feather for a significant period thereafter, facing fierce counterattacks from the large birds instead.

Amidst the intense sky battle, someone on the city wall suddenly cried out in terror, "Giant Flame Beast!"

At the horizon, a massive silhouette was swiftly charging toward Yu'an City.
