Chapter 278: Mei Qingta

Today, the Qilin Corps received a few unexpected guests.

Ji Nanhong, accompanied by Jiang Tianqing and several Deputy Commanders, welcomed these inspectors from the Ancestral Court.

Even though Ji Nanhong is the daughter of Commander Ji, these inspectors still acted in an official, high-and-mighty manner.

The Inspectorate was established to oversee various military districts and officials at every level and is directly under the Chief Judge, which theoretically gives them oversight over the Celestial Court Army.

However, due to the existence of Commander Ji, the Inspectorate has actually not had any practical oversight on the Celestial Court Army.

Ji Nanhong is unclear why the Inspectorate would arrive at the Beimang Mountain Secret Realm at this time, and directly come to her Qilin Corps.

Many thoughts flashed through Ji Nanhong's mind: "Could it be, due to my father's health, that the Chief Judge no longer trusts the Ji Family? Or perhaps the Chief Judge doesn't want me to take over the Celestial Court Army and hence sent someone to interfere?"

"Corps Commander Ji, my name is Mei Qingta, an inspector from the Inspectorate. I am here to investigate certain matters and would appreciate your cooperation." The man showed his badge, dressed in a uniform, with neatly groomed hair and wearing black metal-framed glasses. His voice was nothing special, but his expression was cold — a professional government employee demeanor.

"Of course, Inspector Mei, what do you need my cooperation with?" Ji Nanhong asked.

"I need all information related to the Valley of Hundred Beasts, and everything taken from inside it. Also, everyone who has entered the Valley of Hundred Beasts must be temporarily transferred under my command. Furthermore, the Valley of Hundred Beasts needs to be immediately sealed off. No one, including members of the Qilin Corps, is allowed to enter or exit without permission..." Mei Qingta stated all his demands in one breath.

"Inspector Mei, please wait a moment. I'll see where the people are first." Ji Nanhong said as she stood up and walked out.

Mei Qingta did not stop her, only instructing those beside him: "You all go to the Valley of Hundred Beasts and begin sealing it off first."

The inspectors took their orders and left, while Ji Nanhong slightly frowned. This Mei Qingta showed no respect for the Celestial Court Army; he had ordered the sealing of the Valley of Hundred Beasts without her consent.

Ji Nanhong had just returned the previous night and knew nothing about the Valley of Hundred Beasts. She found a place to ask Jiang Tianqing what was going on and what the Valley of Hundred Beasts was.

"The report on the Valley of Hundred Beasts is on your office desk. You probably haven't had time to read it since you just returned. Let me briefly explain it to you." Jiang Tianqing recounted the situation about the Valley of Hundred Beasts.

After listening, Ji Nanhong sighed and said, "You all have been too careless. A place like this should have been kept a secret. Now that someone has discovered it, they want to seize this piece of fat meat."

"Because testing was necessary, samples were taken out, and that's likely where the problem occurred." Jiang Tianqing said.

"Let's not worry about that for now. Since the Inspectorate dispatched people so quickly, it shows that the Valley of Hundred Beasts is not ordinary. They seem determined to obtain it. Quickly go notify Bai Yueguang and Zhu Hongzhi to avoid any conflicts with Mei Qingta." Ji Nanhong instructed Jiang Tianqing to head to the Valley of Hundred Beasts.

"How should we handle the situation at the Valley of Hundred Beasts?" Jiang Tianqing asked before leaving.

"Since they have arrived with orders from above, we cannot refuse. Let them go back. They have only themselves to blame for being careless and leaking the information, not others." Ji Nanhong thought for a moment and said.

She knew that refusal was impossible, as directly opposing the Inspectorate would mean confronting the Chief Judge. Regardless of the reason, it would likely incur the Chief Judge's displeasure and suspicion, which Ji Nanhong was unwilling to do.

However, Ji Nanhong was not going to hand over her people to the Inspectorate. She also understood that the Inspectorate wanted these people to act as guides and cannon fodder when entering the Valley of Hundred Beasts.

This included Chen Guan, Jiang Tianqing, Bai Yueguang, and Zhu Hongzhi. Leaving others aside, there was no way she would let Chen Guan alone take such a risk.

After thinking for a moment, Ji Nanhong walked out again and came before Mei Qingta.

"Inspector Mei, I have let people go to handle the various matters related to the Valley of Hundred Beasts. Do you want to take a look now?" Ji Nanhong said with a smile.

"No rush, the Qilin Corps members who have entered the Valley of Hundred Beasts, please transfer them to me first, Commander Ji," Mei Qingta said, pushing up his glasses while looking at Ji Nanhong.

"Among the soldiers stationed outside the valley, there are scouts who completed reconnaissance work in the valley. I will have them cooperate with the Inspectorate's work." Ji Nanhong took a step back, intending to give them a few scouts.

"Commander Ji, I mean all of them," Mei Qingta said, producing a small notebook. He opened it and continued, "As far as I know, Bai Yueguang, the Commander of Jade Qilin Camp, Zhu Hongzhi, the Commander of Ink Qilin Camp, Jiang Tianqing of the Cloud Qilin Camp, and Chen Guan, the Commander of the Vanguard Camp, have all entered the Valley of Hundred Beasts. Please assign them all to me."

"The Qilin Corps was just newly established. There is still much work that requires their attention, and it's likely impossible to assist in the Inspectorate's work," Ji Nanhong's expression darkened.

The other party's detailed investigation surely included knowing who these people were and Chen Guan's relationship with her.

Now, pointing out Chen Guan specifically to become cannon fodder, this was obviously targeting her.

Still, Ji Nanhong wasn't certain if the Inspectorate was targeting only her or the entire Ji Family.

Mei Qingta, unfazed, reached into a casual briefcase and handed a document to Ji Nanhong.

"Commander Ji, this is a document personally signed by the Chief Judge; you may take a look." Mei Qingta said indifferently.

Ji Nanhong glanced at the document, which primarily stated that the Celestial Court Army should unconditionally cooperate with the Inspectorate, with all operations led by Mei Qingta, and no violation to be tolerated.

Ji Nanhong's heart sunk to the bottom. With this document, and Mei Qingta coming to demand Chen Guan specifically, refusing would mean defying the Chief Judge's orders, making it difficult for her to ever take over the Celestial Court Army.

The Chief Judge wouldn't place someone who disobeys him in charge of the Celestial Court Army.

"Inspector Mei, I can have the Jade Qilin Camp and Ink Qilin Camp cooperate with you, but the others are Second Awakening cultivators and wouldn't be of much help." Ji Nanhong took another step back, having no other option.

"Commander Ji, I think you might not have heard what I said clearly earlier, or perhaps I didn't express myself fully. Let me repeat, everyone who has entered the Valley of Hundred Beasts, regardless of who it is, must all be reassigned to me without exception, to assist in my work." Mei Qingta stated calmly.

"I'm sorry, Inspector Mei, I probably can't fulfill your request. Some of the people you mentioned have already been sent out to work and are currently not within the Corps. Even if I want to help, I can't." Ji Nanhong replied coldly.

"Commander Ji, it would be wise to consider carefully. This is a direct order from the Chief Judge himself, and you know the consequences of defying it just as well as I do. This isn't a good situation for you, Commander Ji, or the Celestial Court Army. It's unnecessary to lose something important over such a small matter, wouldn't you agree?"

Mei Qingta placed a list in front of Ji Nanhong and said, "I'll pretend I didn't hear what you just said. Please gather all the individuals on this list to be reassigned to me."

Ji Nanhong glanced at the list and, as expected, found Chen Guan's name right at the top.
