Chapter 396: Training
8 hours.
That was how much time it took Rael to figure out that Roger was a complete and total sadist.
After all, Rael was currently a few thousand meters under the water. Sure, he wasn’t drowning because of his Fishmancy skill, but fish crowding toward him while he was tied up was not the most pleasant experience.
And that was because he was currently blind.
Bastard said this is some sensory deprivation practice. Who am I even practicing against? The fish love me, Rael thought with a sigh.
Even so, being underwater for so long was starting to get repetitive, so just as Rael was about to use his mana to free himself, he felt a tug on the rope that held him down.
He was confused for a moment, but then, his vision returned, and to his genuine surprise, he was no longer in water. Instead, he was slowly being lowered into molten lava.
And of course, Roger stood in the air right in front of him, a wide smirk on his face.
“Hey…” Rael muttered. “What is this? Pull me up.”
“Hmm? Why? Since water doesn’t seem to work, let’s try another liquid substance,” Roger replied plainly. “I want your senses to be muddled. If they’re unaffected, then I’m just wasting my time. I was going to go for something more subtle, but lava shouldn’t harm you that much.”
“Shouldn’t…?” Rael repeated. “Sir, I don’t mean to question your methods, but what if I die?”
Roger stared at him for a few moments, his smirk widening.
“Then I suppose you asking me to train you was the wrong decision on your end.”
With those final words, Roger slashed the space in front of him, and in the next instant, the rope that had held Rael above the lava snapped.
You fucking bastard!
Rael inwardly panicked, but as he was just meters away from the lava, he opened the premium shop and bought a certain something.
Category: Fire, Lava / Resistance
•—Balance: 1,087 Premium Coins—•
• Partial Lava + Fire Resistance (Uncommon): 5 Premium Coins
Partial Lava + Fire Resistance: [Level 100 | MAX] (Uncommon)
—Increases your resistance to Lava and Fire by 25%
So only 75% of me is going to burn now? Good to know… Rael thought, defeated. Sure, he could flap his wings and get out of this mess, but he was also curious.
He could very likely survive even if a nuke exploded right in front of him. So why wouldn’t he be able to resist lava as well?
With those suicidal thoughts in mind, Rael closed his eyes, and then, his body finally hit the lava.
And thankfully…
[HP -0%! Vitality: Tier 6 [100% / 100% HP]
[HP -0%! Vitality: Tier 6 [100% / 100% HP]
[HP -0%! Vitality: Tier 6 [100% / 100% HP]
It’s warm, Rael mused, and tried looking around. Because he was inside lava, he wasn’t able to see anything. He couldn’t breathe either, but he didn’t really need to. His lung capacity was top notch.
All of a sudden, he sensed someone swimming toward him. He raised his guard, and when the figure reached him, he brought his hand down without hesitation.
However, he missed miserably, and in turn, he was bitten on the wrist.
[HP -1%! Vitality: Tier 6 [99% / 100% HP]
1%? Rael’s eyes widened, and that was when he decided to take this seriously.
He focused on his heart and tried replicating the same thing he had done in the Memory Record.
His heartbeat synced up with his thoughts, and soon after, every time his heart beat, he sensed the area around him, almost like a sonar.
And that was when the thing that hit him earlier entered his perception, coming from below him.
Rael pretended not to notice, and in the last second, he moved his body aside, pinpointed the thing’s location, and then clapped his hands together, crushing the thing that was attacking him.
-100% Critical Hit!
<Lava Boar [Level 485] Killed! Experience: +575,490>

Huh? How did this thing deal 1% of my HP? Rael pondered. Burger, have any ideas?
[The old man buffed it,] Burger replied plainly. [He probably gave it a Strength Buff, and a massive Agility Buff as well.]
Rael sighed. How troublesome…
Since he had the gist of this weird sonar sense thing, he was going to spend the remaining time combining it with his Draconic Bloodline’s Ancient Instinct passive.

(6 hours later.)
Rael remained still, drifting through the warm lava. Then, his senses flared up as another one of those boars approached rapidly.
Yet as it was about to reach him, Rael extended his hand, gripping the boar’s throat. He simply tightened his grip, crushing the boar’s neck and killing it in an instant.

Rael rolled his eyes out of boredom and swam up, eventually sticking his head out of the lava.
Roger was sitting by the side, tanning. Clearly, he wasn’t paying any attention to what Rael had been doing.
But despite that, Rael made some significant progress.
The Ancient Instinct passive gives me a danger sense radar of 10 kilometers around me. But then there’s that weird tingly feeling from the Memory Record.
That tingly feeling enhanced his perception severalfold, to the point he was sure he could spot even a single grain of dust flying within a 10-kilometer radius.
So it was safe to say that this training, while short, was pretty damn productive.
Rael summoned his mosquito wings and flapped them once, getting out of the lava. He immediately got rid of his wings and stood in the air, slowly walking over to Roger.
When he arrived, he didn’t say a word. He just waited for Roger to finally wake up, and after a few minutes, he opened his eyes, then glanced at Rael.
“You demonstrated surprising proficiency. I’m sure you overcame your shortcomings, or at least the ones I pointed out,” Roger said plainly. “You learn very fast, but even then, I am not sure whether you would be able to pass my next test.”
