Chapter 395: Leader
“Got it.”
“Good,” Mathieu replied and moved aside. “When you go inside, don’t say a word. Let Roger speak first.”
Rael nodded one last time and walked up to the door. He knocked a couple of times and then slowly swung the door open.
Immediately, he was met with a large office. But despite its size, it was pretty empty.
Sure, there was a couch, a few arcade games, and even the main desk, but Rael expected much more from the supposed leader of the Blazing Sun Knight Brigade.
As expected, the man named Roger sat leisurely behind his desk. He was old, and he had a long gray beard. Despite that, the strength in his gaze alone made Rael hesitant to approach.
But for the sake of a good boon, he resisted it and slowly walked toward Roger’s desk.
The faint scent of fresh books lingered in the air, but that was not all. The closer Rael got to Roger, the stronger the smell of blood became, eventually drowning out the scent of fresh books.
And as Rael stopped right in front of his desk, he decided to inspect Roger.
—Roger Light, The Blazing Sun Knight [Grade 5 Tyrant Class | Level 4,929] – Vitality: Tier 22 [100% / 100% HP]
Fucking hell… Rael gulped and remained quiet, waiting for Roger to speak up, until eventually, he did.
“Mathieu had mentioned quite a promising candidate, someone who could resist a Supreme Law. That is you, correct?” Roger asked, tapping the desk a few times.
“That’s me,” Rael replied plainly. “It’s a pleasure to meet the Blazing Sun Knight Brigade’s leader. My name is Aster Light.”
“Hmm… surname Light? So you’re also an orphan,” Roger remarked, brushing his beard. “But that is not why I called you here. As you might be aware, I only call those who I am willing to grant a wish to. But I am curious how you were able to resist the Supreme Law of Time. Mathieu’s proficiency isn’t the highest, but he is still someone extremely capable. A Grade 1 like you could never hope to resist him.”
“But I did.” Rael tilted his head. “Unless you think your subordinate lied to you?”
“Not at all.” Roger smiled. “Mathieu is a boy who cannot lie. He is honest to a fault. That is why I’m so impressed with your performance.”
Rael felt a bit awkward, so he simply took the compliments on the chin and didn’t say anything.
Eventually, Roger’s smile faded, replaced by a serious expression that sent shivers down Rael’s spine.
But more importantly, Rael felt his skin tingling, as if his senses were telling him an attack was coming.
All of a sudden, Rael’s vision darkened. His Foresight was completely disabled, so he took a single step backward, preparing to deal with whatever came next.
His senses finally flared up, yet they were severely scrambled. It was almost like he was drowning, and everything was muddled.
Because of that, he felt an attack coming from right ahead, and he tried to sidestep away from it.
However, he was unsuccessful, as the attack landed square on his jaw, sending him flying away.
[HP -50%! Vitality: Tier 6 [50% / 100% HP]
Rael’s head was twisted, but because of his rapid healing, it soon snapped back into place.
At the same time, his vision returned, and he realized he was now beside the door, whereas Roger was still at his desk, sitting calmly in the same position he had been just a few seconds ago.
Rael rubbed his neck and slowly stood up, approaching Roger once again.
“It seems you are very dependent on all of your senses,” Roger commented. “Take away one, and you are done. Sight seems to be the one sense you rely on the most.”
Rael’s brows twitched.
This old man really did all that just to test me?
There was one thing Rael could try, but out of caution, he didn’t want to risk it.
His Arch Angel’s Wisdom stat had quite an interesting option.

Burger, what do you think? Rael asked.
[There is a very high chance he’s going to detect it. Don’t try it,] Burger replied plainly.
Rael sighed and simply nodded at Roger.
“That’s right. My eyes can slightly slow down most movements, so I can react to them easier,” Rael bullshitted. “My senses aren’t that sharp… that’s why I rely on my ocular abilities more… Sir.”
“That checks out.” Roger nodded, leaning in slightly. “I’m sure Mathieu had already told you that you can ask me whatever you want as long as it’s within reason. So go for it. What do you think I could provide you in this moment that would benefit you in the future?”
“How about you train me?” Rael asked. “Not for long, of course, a few days at most.”
Roger raised a brow. “Training? You do realize I am a busy man, yes?”
“Well, I’m sure that you could find a spot in your schedule for a training session, even if it lasts an hour,” Rael replied confidently. “But if that’s not possible for you, sir, then let me keep my wish for next time.”
“No, that won’t do.” Roger sighed and stood up.
He was surprisingly tall, almost as tall as Rael. Yet he was incredibly skinny, almost unnaturally so.
“You have been given a wish, and I intend to honor it. You said you wanted to train for several days, but since I am very busy, I can only train you today, and today only,” Roger added, narrowing his eyes. “Does that work for you, Aster?”
Rael smiled and lowered his head slightly. “Of course, sir. An hour of your time is more than enough.”
“An hour?” Roger chuckled. “Rejoice, Aster. You have my undivided attention for the entire day. I will teach you many things, but your survival is not guaranteed.”
“Haha…” Rael scratched his cheek, and as he was about to speak, Roger continued, an ominous smile on his face.
“If your performance is satisfactory… I shall bestow upon you the knowledge of one of the Universal Laws. Whether or not you would be able to comprehend it is entirely up to your capabilities.”
