Chapter 3810: Chaotic Organization

Chapter 3810: Chaotic Organization

Little Bull nodded honestly and the room quickly erupted into laughter.

High Elder Palm Saber wiped tears from his eyes. "He’s serious."

"Of course he’s serious." another elder replied. "He doesn’t know any better."

High Elder Shatter Peak finally shook his head. "Our Wild Peak has around ten thousand members in the Inner Court."

Little Bull froze and the piece of meat halfway to his mouth stopped moving.

"Ten thousand?" he asked.

The elder nodded. "Ten thousand."

Even Lin Mu felt surprised as he had expected several thousand. Ten thousand was still far more than anticipated. Little Bull scratched his head. "Where are they?"

That question caused another wave of laughter.

A disciple pointed toward the mountain outside. "They’re everywhere."

"Training."

"Fighting."

"Hunting beasts."

"Breaking mountains."

"Breaking each other."

"Getting lost."

"Causing trouble."

"Being punished."

"Causing more trouble."

The answers came from all directions.

Little Bull’s expression became increasingly confused.

High Elder Palm Saber laughed. "They’re not wrong."

Little Bull then asked another question. "What about Outer Court and Core Court?"

The room quieted slightly.

High Elder Shatter Peak answered this time. "We have a peak on the Outer Court Continent too."

Little Bull nodded. "How many people?"

The elder shrugged. "Currently none."

The answer stunned him. "None?"

"None."

"Zero?"

"Zero."

Lin Mu almost laughed internally.

The contrast between ten thousand Inner Court disciples and zero Outer Court disciples was absurd.

"We haven’t had suitable recruits for a long time as most recruits don’t stay and others transfer." One of the elders explained. "The few elders there mostly handle administrative work."

Little Bull slowly nodded as if trying to understand, though his expression clearly suggested he did not understand at all.

"What about the Core Court?"

This time High Elder Palm Saber answered. "We have ten disciples there."

Little Bull nearly dropped his food. "Only ten?"

The number felt impossibly small after hearing ten thousand.

Several disciples grinned as the reaction was exactly what they expected.

One disciple pointed toward himself. "I could have gone."

Another nodded. "So could I."

A third raised his hand. "Me too."

Little Bull stared. "Then why didn’t you?"

The room became strangely quiet before several disciples answered simultaneously.

"Too boring."

"Too lonely."

"Too many rules."

"Too many meetings."

"Too much politics."

"Too many stubborn and rigid old codgers."

The final answer received enthusiastic agreement.

High Elder Shatter Peak nodded seriously. "Especially that last one."

The hall exploded into laughter again while Lin Mu listened carefully. Every answer revealed something valuable.

The Wild Peak truly functioned differently from the rest of the sect. Advancement, status, hierarchy and prestige, these things mattered less here. People remained because they wanted to remain and not because they had to.

Even disciples qualified for Core Court often stayed behind, simply because they preferred life here. That realization pleased Lin Mu greatly as the freedom he required for his mission might actually exist here.

Instead there were forests, mountains, training grounds and tens of thousands of beasts and with thousands of body cultivators who seemed more interested in eating and fighting than managing paperwork.

Witnessing this, Lin Mu felt genuinely optimistic. The Wild Peak might actually be the perfect place for him. A place chaotic enough that nobody would question his movements too closely. A place independent enough that he could investigate the mysterious vault in relative freedom. A place where a simple minded disciple like Little Bull could wander around without attracting suspicion.

As laughter continued around the hall and more food arrived, Lin Mu silently observed the massive mountain beyond the windows.

The first step of his infiltration had succeeded far better than expected. Now all that remained was finding the inheritance hidden somewhere within this enormous sect.

And judging from everything he had seen so far, that task would be far more challenging than simply becoming Little Bull.

The feast finally came to an end several hours later.

By the time the last dishes had been emptied and the final barrels of alcohol drained, the sky outside had already turned dark. The moon hung above the vast mountain range, illuminating the forests and cliffs with pale silver light while the sounds of beasts echoed from distant valleys.

Little Bull was still eating when most of the others had already finished. Several disciples watched him with approving expressions. One of them even wiped a tear from his eye.

"Good appetite."

"He has potential."

"A bright future."

"He’ll make the peak proud."

Lin Mu almost laughed internally at how seriously they treated eating. For the members of the Wild Peak, appetite seemed to be every bit as important as cultivation talent. Eventually even Little Bull stopped eating.

Mostly because the kitchen staff had begun staring at him with increasingly worried expressions.

The young man rubbed his stomach. "I’m full."

Several disciples looked shocked. "You can become full?"

"That’s impressive."

"Must be the physique."

"Definitely the physique."

High Elder Palm Saber nodded solemnly as if discussing a profound cultivation truth. "It has limits after all."

The others quickly agreed while Lin Mu simply kept quiet. If he ate according to his actual appetite, the entire kitchen might need emergency reinforcement from nearby divisions. Thankfully Little Bull’s image gave him an excuse to restrain himself.

Once everyone finally began leaving, High Elder Shatter Peak stood up and stretched. The simple movement caused several chairs nearby to crack, but nobody reacted as apparently this happened often.

The giant elder pointed toward a distant cluster of buildings hidden beneath enormous trees. "Your quarters are over there."

Little Bull blinked. "Which room?"

The elder scratched his beard. "Any room."

"...Any room?"

"Yeah." The elder seemed confused by the question. "There are plenty."

And just like that he walked away, leaving Little Bull standing there.

Several disciples laughed. "Welcome to the Wild Peak."

A broad shouldered disciple waved him over. "Come on. I’ll show you around a bit."

Little Bull nodded and followed.

The disciple introduced himself as Fang Lei and seemed friendly enough. As they walked through the mountain settlement, Lin Mu began getting a clearer understanding of how the Wild Peak operated.

Or perhaps more accurately, how it barely operated at all.
