Chapter 2935: The New Valkyrie

Chapter 2935: The New Valkyrie

Zu An whispered the benefits of an oath of fraternity to Yun Jianyue. “Just think about it. If we make an oath of fraternity, we would be master and disciple, lovers, and siblings as well. Isn’t that much more exciting?”

Yun Jianyue’s eyes lit up in excitement. “That makes some sense.”

The notion that her bond with Zu An would be deeper than that of the other women stoked her interest. She grabbed Zu An and Tingxue’s hands. “Let’s go and make an oath of fraternity!”

Tingxue shook off Yun Jianyue’s hand in disdain. “You can do it by yourselves.”

Zu An tried to persuade Tingxue. “Tingxue, we have braved many dangers together. The Myriad Worlds are massive, and it was not easy for us to reunite. What can this be if not fate? Making an oath of fraternity will tie our fates closer together. That will make it easier for us to meet again in the future.”

Tingxue’s eyes wavered, but she glanced at Yun Jianyue and remarked, “I can make an oath of fraternity with you, but not with that woman.”

Yun Jianyue scoffed. “Do you think I want an oath of fraternity with you?”

Zu An thought that these two women were truly sworn enemies. Despite not recalling anything, Tingxue remained hostile to Yun Jianyue. He had no choice but to mediate between them. “Tingxue, you two were sisters. Even though you were enemies at one point, you resolved your differences and became friends.”

Tingxue tilted her head in skepticism. “Are you sure about that?”

“Do you remember me telling you some time back that you greatly resemble a friend of mine?” Zu An asked. “I’ll ask you a few questions now. I hope you can answer them honestly.”

“Go ahead.” Tingxue knew that she was missing a lot of her memories and wanted to know more about her past.

“Is there a little red mole under your right breast? There should also be one around ten centimeters under your belly button...” Zu An divulged several of Yan Xuehen’s physical traits.

Tingxue was startled. Her cheeks reddened, and she stared at Zu An with conflicted eyes.

She didn’t answer Zu An’s question, but her horrified expression said everything. Zu An said, “That’s why I am certain you two are the same person. Otherwise, there’s no way for the two of you to share the same physical traits.”

He had learned from the universal deities that only people with divinity retained their appearances across reincarnations. He thought about the situation regarding Chu Chuyan and the Snow Lady back then, and he figured that Yan Xuehen must have gone through something that led to her becoming Tingxue.

Tngxue fell silent. “After meeting you, I’d occasionally dream. I’d see fragmented scenes in those dreams, but I can never remember any of their contents.”

“It’s fine. I don’t know what you went through, but I’ll help you regain your memories,” Zu An gently consoled her.

Yun Jianyue was taken aback. “She really is the ice statue? What happened to her? How did she become so doltish?”

Tingxue snorted, “I might not remember the past, but I can still feel my loathing for you.”

“Beat me up then.” Yun Jianyue felt particularly refreshed today. Not only did she get to reunite with Ah Zu, but her old rival had also lost her memories.

Tingxue reached for her sword, but Zu An hurriedly stopped her and asked, “Do you know why I came to this world?”

His question caught the two women’s attention. Zu An proceeded to tell them about his mission to find the first-generation universal deities’ soul fragments.

Tingxue remained composed as usual, but Yun Jianyue’s expression flickered a few times before she slowly said, “I might possess the soul fragment of a first-generation universal deity.”

Zu An was stunned. He had suspected that Tingxue was the soul fragment of a first-generation universal deity, but he hadn’t expected that to be the case for Yun Jianyue as well.

Yun Jianyue explained, “I didn’t feel inclined to join any of the Divine Palaces when they first descended upon the Cultivation World. There was a weird feeling of rejection. Later, I was guided into special dungeons to train by an inexplicable force. I traveled to many bizarre worlds, and my cultivation grew by leaps and bounds. However, I gained a lot of bizarre and random memories in the process. I was worried that they were inner demons, but after hearing your words, I suspect that they might be the memories of a first-generation universal deity.”

Overjoyed to hear that, Zu An pulled her into his embrace. He'd thought that it would be an arduous journey to find the universal deities’ soul fragments, so he was surprised to find one so quickly.

If that’s the case for Yun Jianyue, perhaps it’s the same for the others who didn’t enter the Divine Palaces but still disappeared.

“Do you know which universal deity you are?” Zu An asked.

Yun Jianyue shook her head. “I don’t know. I only remember the boundless darkness in my dreams. I tried taking out the ancient lamp, but the darkness refused to budge.”

Zu An was taken aback. “Could it be the Deity of Darkness?”

He told them about the properties of the first-generation universal deities—metal, wood, water, fire, earth, ice, wind, lightning, light, and darkness.

“My artifact is of the light attribute. I didn’t expect I’d belong to darkness,” Yun Jianyue mumbled. She turned to Tingxue and added, “I’ll bet everything that this ice statue is the Deity of Ice.”

Tingxue placidly replied, “You might have misunderstood. I am a Nebula envoy; I can’t be a first-generation universal deity’s soul fragment as you have claimed.”

Yun Jianyue was confused as well. Yan Xuehen had been able to enter the Nebula Divine Palace, and that should have meant she had no relation to the first-generation universal deities.

Hmph. No wonder I find her an eyesore. Turns out we were really enemies all along.

“We have too little clues. Let’s gather more souls to figure out what’s going on first,” Zu An said.

“How do we gather more souls?” Yun Jianyue asked.

“I don’t know. The universal deities said that I’d know once I encounter them.” Zu An was confused, too. Nothing was happening even though he had already bumped into Yun Jianyue.

Yun Jianyue snorted, “Those fellows are unreliable. No wonder we were enemies back then.”

Zu An chuckled. She has gotten into her role. “This is a dangerous world. We’re bound to encounter trouble while gathering the soul fragments of the first-generation universal deities. There’s a chance we might even lose our lives here. If we don’t make an oath of fraternity right now, we might not have a chance to do so anymore.”

He turned to Tingxue. She pursed her lips and finally relented. “Alright.”

Zu An was overjoyed. He pulled the two women into the peach garden to make an oath of fraternity. They had no qualms with him being the big brother, but they had a fallout over who was the second brother. Neither side wanted to be beneath the other.

Left with no choice, Zu An told them to throw lots and leave it to fate.

Tingxue won. A smile finally emerged on her cold face.

Yun Jianyue was vexed. After making the oath of fraternity, she trudged her way back to her room and shut herself in.

Zu An went over to console her. The moment he walked in, a warm body rushed forward to embrace him.

“You weren’t angry?”

“How else can I fool that ice statue?” Yun Jianyue replied with a flirtatious smile. “I prefer to have secret trysts.”

Yun Jianyue was a master of seduction, and the two of them had been separated for too long. There was no way Zu An would be able to hold back. The two lovers intertwined together as if to knead themselves into each other’s embrace.

...

Some time later, Zu An sensed a notification from the Keyboard System.

“A new valkyrie has been detected. Do you want to collect her?”

Translator’s Note:

The Eastern Han is made up of multiple provinces. In each province, there are multiple commanderies. In each commandery, there are multiple counties.

So, Eastern Han > Provinces > Commanderies > Counties.

Most provinces/ commanderies’ counties have their own armies, so that they can deal with threats promptly instead of having to report upward, which is clearly unfeasible in an era where transportation and communication are severely limited. (basically, the feudal system).

Under this system of feudalism, the warlords became so powerful that the Eastern Han broke into the Three Kingdoms—Shu Han (Liu Bei), Cao Wei (Cao Cao), and Sun Wu (Sun Quan), with all three seeking to conquer the other two and ‘make China whole again’.

Hopefully, these little tips are useful in comprehending the story!

I don’t think I’ll go through every major character, like Liu Bei, Cao Cao, Yuan Shao etc., because that will take forever, so I’ll just sprinkle bits and pieces of background information that may be useful in understanding what is happening in this era.
