Chapter 3697: Great Void Shifter’s Problems
Tanxan was in his humanoid form, pointing outside with his hand. "Can you see those pillars... or whatever they are in the distance?"
The Great Void Shifter was indeed found in the Capital, although it was at the eastern border of that ginormous city. The city itself was well over hundreds of kilometers large, with billions of inhabitants. The skyscrapers, obviously, were taller than anything you would find on Earth. There were literally tens of thousands of them. Some weren’t even on the ground but were floating above the city through formations.
Yet, the five pillars dwarfed all of them easily. Well, they didn’t really look like pillars, but more like five giant metal-squared black fangs pointing inwards. Each of them was probably taller than the entire extension of the city, so it was impossible to not see.
"We noticed," Rean said. "It isn’t hard to guess that they are part of the formation, right?"
"Exactly," Tanxan looked back at Rean and Kentucky. "I tried to get close, but there are literally Divinity Realm Experts watching over it. I couldn’t get anywhere near before I was told to fuck off. Thus, I couldn’t check it up close."
Kentucky spoke from there. "That formation pretty much never activates. We heard how the Werdlem Empire would rather use the spaceships and travel the distances because of how much cheaper it was. If I’m not wrong, it has been millions of years since it was last used. However, it will be used during emergencies or if someone really important is coming to pay a visit to the Universe. Both are critical moments, so it makes sense that it has this much protection."
Rean agreed with him. "Indeed. However, that won’t be a problem. With us here, we will be able to check it from a distance. Let’s try to go there."
"If you say so..." Tanxan got up and led the way. Foliana, Rean, and Kentucky followed.
There were no flight restrictions in the capital, so they simply flew in the formation’s direction. As one would expect, the number of experts decreased as they approached the pillars. Finally, the airspace was clear, although Rean and Kentucky could clearly feel the Divinity Realms’ Divine Senses watching over it. Finally, the warning arrived.
’You are trespassing on the Inquisition Hall’s territory. Please leave.’
At the same time...
*Pin!*
[An Abyssal Path has been detected.]
The system’s voice echoed in Rean and Roan’s minds almost immediately.
Rean and the others stopped. From there, they went down and landed on an open area, sitting at the limit of what was the watching area of the Great Void Shifter Formation. Rean took the chance to tell Tanxan, Kentucky, and Foliana of what he had just heard from the system.
Roan came out of the Dimensional Realm, looking at the fang-like black pillars. "So it was truly another Abyssal Path."
No one felt surprised. They had already heard that the Great Void Shifter used the Abyssal Beasts’ Paths to work. Back then, they heard how the Werdlem Empire used these Great Void Shifter Formations to invade the Universes. This one was no exception.
The problem with the Abyssal Paths was that, usually, only Abyssal Beasts could use them. If you tried on your own, regardless of your cultivation level, you would die. But then, the Werdlem Empire seemed to have found a way to stabilize these paths through a formation... which was extremely expensive.
At the moment, thanks to the Abyssal Soul in the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm, the system has gained the ability to allow the twins to resist the path. They didn’t really need to activate any formation. The twins’ idea was to use the Abyssal Path attached to the Great Void Shifter Formation, not the Formation itself.
However, there was a problem with this idea.
"From what you said, you could enter the Abyssal Path, but then what?" Tanxan asked. "Abyssal paths lead to other places in a matter of instants, even in different universes, but how can you select which Universe you go to once you enter it?"
"That’s the issue, right?" Rean nodded. "We thought Abyssal Paths only had one entrance and exit. That said, this Abyssal path should lead to only one place. But where would it be? Probably the Werdlem Universe itself."
"Of course, we now know that it is not true," Roan added on the side. "The Werdlem Empire found some way to use the Abyssal paths and the formations to go to different Universes. Most likely, they connected several Abyssal Paths together."
"The formation can help select the right path, but can we do that without the formation?" Rean wondered.
[I think you are forgetting an important point.] Sister Orb took over. [Pretend you avoided the security here. Then say that you, due to some miracle, manage to select the right Abyssal Path that leads to Universe F974. Once you arrive there, you will appear at the exit of that Universe’s Great Void Shifter, which should be just as well-protected as this one. Would the experts there just let us leave as if nothing had happened?]
No one could dismiss Sister Orb’s concern.
[At the moment, I can see at least twenty different types of formations laid in several layers around this Great Void Shifter. Hacking all of them at once would take forever. Even if I could, the Great Void Shifter is another one of those Legendary Level Formations, and a high-level only. I could hack into it, but it would take even longer than the others, and that’s only because Rean and Roan reached the Space-Time Realm, which increases the system’s own processing power.]
Let’s not forget that now the system’s processing power, even the size of the Dimensional Realm, increases with each realm breakthrough.
"So, if we want to use this, we will need a proper pass," Kentucky could see it already. "Guess we will need Rifindio’s help even more now."
"What kind of excuse would Rifindio give to the Werdlem Empire for us to use it?" Rean had his doubts. "These things truly can’t be activated without a very good reason, remember?"
Roan turned around, ready to go back to the Dimensional Realm. "In any case, we will only know once Rifindio gets free. Let’s wait for his call, and we will decide what to do after that. Worst case, we give up the formations and aim for a spaceship like everyone else."
