Chapter 4414: Infinite Attacks
A flash of killing intent passed through Lu Yin's eyes. This was not because of Qiu Huang, but rather because of Hong Shuang. Second Furball wanted to avenge Qiu Huang, while Lu Yin, standing on the same side as Hong Shuang, also wanted revenge.
Hong Xia's shamelessness had led to the fall of the Second Rampart. He was the greatest traitor in human history, and he had to be eliminated.
Hong Xia sneered, his gaze full of disdain. "Each of you is more foolish than the last. You speak of dignity and legacy, but this is the omniverse, the Aevum Inch, the cruelest place of survival. What dignity is there? If you are alive, then you have dignity.
"Your master, Qiu Huang, deserved to die. They trusted the Plume Immortals too easily. If they had not died, who should have?
"As for you, Lu Yin, it turns out that your surrender was fake. You merely put on a performance to draw this thing out. You truly disappoint me. Your Human Trio will be destroyed because of your stupidity. You have no idea what it is that you face. Do you really think that you can restore the Nine Ramparts by yourself? Impossible. It will never happen.
"Your Trio has already reached the limit. Obscura will never give you a chance to go further. The Keeper of Balance is suppressing you, and you will never be able to advance again. For the rest of your life, you can only live beneath Obscura’s shadow. Once you enter Obscura, you remain a part of Obscura for life. Why do you think Obscura does not care if its members were once their enemies? Because they have no choice. Whether it is you, Purple, or Cyan, no creature has a choice. All are forced to join Obscura, and they will forever belong to Obscura. Your choice was destined to be tragic." The starry sky fell silent, with only Hong Xia's voice echoing through it.
Lu Yin stared at Hong Xia and then looked over at Second Furball. Both of them were Lu Yin’s enemies. Although Second Furball wanted revenge against Hong Xia, it also hated humanity.
As for Hong Xia, there was even less to say. Given the chance, he would destroy the Trio. He did not care about humanity at all. In that case, let them fight each other to the death.
"Second Furball, if I'm not mistaken, you've broken the rules," Lu Yin calmly stated.
Hong Xia's gaze sharpened. "Obscura’s rules forbid us from attacking each other. You have used the Red Dust region to break a part of my Path of Dispassion and injured me. You have already broken the rules. Come back to Vestigium with me to face punishment."
As he spoke, Hong Xia reached for the shield. The surface of it twisted, and golden flesh spread out, forming two tentacles that lashed at Hong Xia. At the same time, a gate appeared behind the shield. Second Furball was trying to flee.
Lu Yin may not yet know the consequences of breaking Obscura's rules, but it did. The moment it had been discovered plotting against Hong Xia, it knew that it could never return.
Within Obscura, the rules stood above all else.
The gate suddenly shattered. Hong Xia had not even arrived yet, but his Path of Dispassion had already enveloped the entire megaverse. Escaping from this place would be extraordinarily difficult.
Previously, Lu Yin had only managed to escape by relying on his status as a member of Obscura as leverage and then he had teleported away. This shield clearly could not do that. It could only directly withstand Hong Xia's attacks while retreating little by little.
The cosmos roared. Lu Yin watched as Hong Xia attacked Second Furball. Golden flesh twisted through the void while the Path of Dispassion filled outer space.
The shield was forced steadily backward.
"Humans, are you still not going to act? Join hands with me to kill Hong Xia!" Second Furball shouted.
Jiu Wen's eyes shifted. He was just about to charge into the Blood Tower, planning to die together with the Blood Tower and Xi Shangfeng to break seven parts of Hong Xia's Path of Dispassion. With Second Furball's assistance, they might not necessarily lose this battle.
But Lu Yin stopped the old man. "I cannot attack Hong Xia."
Jiu Wen instantly understood. If Lu Yin attacked Hong Xia, Obscura would retaliate against him. Green Lotus was sealed away, and if Jiu Wen died together with the Blood Tower and Xi Shangfeng, then even if seven parts of Hong Xia’s Path of Dispassion were broken, who else would be able to join the attack?
A shield alone could never win, and the people of the Trio could not intervene either because Hong Xia was also under Obscura's 2,000 years of protection. Right now, the only one who could act against Hong Xia was Second Furball.
In the distance, Second Furball was still shouting, and yet Jiu Wen could do nothing.
"Senior, we can break seven parts of Hong Xia’s Path of Dispassion at any time. This simply isn't the right moment yet," Lu Yin said. There was another thing that he did not mention; since one part of Hong Xia's Path of Dispassion had just been broken, Jiu Wen did not necessarily have to die. There was still Ji He, who was another anchor that could be broken.
Along with Xi Shangfeng, Ji He’s death would be enough.
Their human civilization had not had an easy time developing. Jiu Wen was, after all, a powerful two-law Immortal. If he could survive, then naturally he should.
After watching for a while, Lu Yin took out his red coffin and prepared to enter Vestigium to speak with Ba Se.
Since Second Furball had attacked Hong Xia, Hong Xia was naturally allowed to retaliate without breaking Obscura’s rules, but Lu Yin was different. Second Furball had done nothing against him, so to avoid breaking any rules, it was necessary to first ask.
In Vestigium, Lu Yin called out to Ba Se. "Second Furball ambushed Hong Xia. What happens now?"
Ba Se's voice remained calm. "I am already aware. Bring it back to Vestigium to face a severe punishment."
"Can I attack it?"
"Now, yes," Ba Se replied.
With that permission from Ba Se, Lu Yin received the assurance that he needed and left Vestigium.
By this time, Second Furball had already been driven out of the Crimson Starshade Megaverse. It had to be said that the shield was truly durable. Hong Xia still had seven unbroken parts of his Path of Dispassion and thus remained overwhelmingly powerful. In the past, he had once overpowered both Green Lotus and Old First even while fighting two against one. Despite that, this shield was actually enduring Hong Xia’s assault.
Then again, as the shield of an overwhelmingly powerful being like Qiu Huang, having such defenses was perfectly normal.
However, the shield was absolutely unable to escape.
Jiu Wen sat cross-legged atop the Blood Tower, using his own life as a threat against Hong Xia.
Lu Yin watched the battle through his Mirrorlight Art. It was clear that Hong Xia was not fighting his hardest, because even fighting increased his karmic chain. At the same time, he was equally unwilling to let Second Furball go because sooner or later, such an enemy would strike again.
In a sense, Hong Xia was being forced into this fight. He was desperate to have Lu Yin intervene, but whether Lu Yin acted was not up to Hong Xia or up to Second Furball.
Lu Yin stood aside and watched the two continue their fight, feeling quite at ease. At last, he had seized the initiative.
Second Furball had wanted to sit behind the scenes and reap the rewards, and Hong Xia had also tried to use Lu Yin to flush out the hidden mastermind. But in the end, Lu Yin had proven more skillful than either of the two.
This battle between great experts was far from simple. Hong Xia demonstrated the power of the Path of Dispassion, even without using his cosmic laws. He hammered against the shield again and again. The shield, in turn, demonstrated incomparable defensive strength, enduring everything directly and without fear.
They fought from the Crimson Starshade Megaverse to distant reaches of the Aevum Inch, but not one part of their battle escaped Lu Yin's sight. He saw Hong Xia use his Sword of Dispassion Intent and the River of Myriad Tribulations. He saw Second Furball release yellow divine energy that combined with its golden flesh, allowing the shield to become incomparably tenacious.
Hong Xia had always kept his true abilities hidden. He still did not reveal the Ten-Eyed Divine Crow's innate gift, the Two-Polarity Heaven-Scorching Mirror, orange divine energy, any sourcebox arrays, or even his unseen world.
Lu Yin’s eyes narrowed. Hong Xia was far too cautious. Second Furball only knew which cosmic laws the man resonated with. The shield knew nothing else.
The more determined that Hong Xia was to keep something concealed, the more important it had to be.
In truth, if Second Furball had not revealed Hong Xia’s cosmic laws to Jiu Wen, it would have been extremely difficult for them to stop Hong Xia when he attacked. Just his Absolute of No Absolutes was enough to make anyone's head ache just thinking about it.
Lu Yin needed to force things a little further. His voice reached Second Furball. "If this drags on any longer, other members of Obscura will arrive. I've already informed Ba Se about this."
It was impossible to read a shield's emotions, but its attacks clearly grew more vicious. Its golden flesh swept out again and again, tearing through Hong Xia's Path of Dispassion.
As long as seven parts of the twelvefold Path of Dispassion remained unbroken, the man’s Path of Dispassion would remain formidable.
Even so, it was still being torn apart, which showed just how powerful the golden flesh truly was.
"Find your own opening. I'll help you escape," Lu Yin sent his voice over again.
Hong Xia glanced into the distance. He could tell that Lu Yin was speaking to the shield, and he could even guess at their conversation. But at this moment, Hong Xia was completely on the back foot. If this battle continued, it would be difficult for him to overcome the shield's defenses. After all, it had once belonged to Qiu Huang.
"Hong Xia, I've already reported this incident to Ba Se, and they told me to assist you. Take your time. There's no need to rush." Lu Yin then spoke to Hong Xia as well.
Hong Xia gritted his teeth. This boy absolutely would not intervene. He was waiting for Hong Xia to reveal his other abilities in order to gain a full understanding of Hong Xia’s strength.
He had originally wanted to drag things out until other Obscura members arrived, but after hearing Lu Yin’s words, it seemed possible that perhaps no one would arrive. How infuriating!
This boy was incredibly scheming and possessed astonishing talent, yet he was also hostile toward Hong Xia, which meant that he could not be left alive. Some way to eliminate Lu Yin needed to be found as soon as possible. For now, Hong Xia needed to deal with the shield first.
Since you want to see, I will let you see.
With a bang, the shield was driven back. Hong Xia faced it, raised two fingers, and tapped forward. In that instant, the space around seemed to shrink countless times over, as if his power had altered everything. The tap landed before the shield, then abruptly withdrew.
Lu Yin's scalp went numb as he stared at the shield. When Hong Xia withdrew, spatial cracks appeared where his strike had fallen. It had pierced straight through the shield, leaving the cosmos beyond it torn apart, the damage stretching endlessly out of sight.
Lu Yin's pupils shrank. What was that?
Yellow divine energy spread across the surface of the shield. “An unseen world... so this is what you created from the Absolute of No Absolutes. An unseen world. With absolute retreat, you generate endless attacks until your opponent’s limits are broken. Hong Xia, you’re ruthless.”
Lu Yin was shaken. Was such a thing actually possible?
In the cosmos, there were no absolutes. The Absolute of No Absolutes stemmed from that principle, yet this unseen world built upon it, using absolute retreat to form an opposing paradox and unleash infinite attacks.
This was not a question of combat power, but rather a matter of one's comprehension of the cosmos as a whole. Combat, too, was a form of study.
Hong Xia's expression remained calm as he raised his hand once more and pointed at the distant shield. "You were able to join Obscura because your defenses match the level of a two-law Immortal. Even when facing experts of my level, those defenses still leave you room to battle. However, you are facing me. Since you want to see, I will let you see. Did you really think that you could deal with me? Come with me to Vestigium."
The shield kept retreating. Around it, yellow divine energy continuously twisted, spreading themselves into threadlike strands that wrapped around its form. At first glance, it looked as though the shield was being shrouded with a layer of yellow threads. "No power is invincible. Not even my master could accomplish that, and neither can you. Your power has an upper limit."
Hong Xia sneered. "But that limit does not lie with you."
With that, he withdrew his arm once more. With a bang, the shield was pierced through again. This time, even the yellow divine energy was pierced through. The shield could not resist at all.
In the distance, Lu Yin's eyes flickered. He looked warily at Hong Xia. This was the man’s true power. His world had nothing to do with time or space and was instead concerned only with the result. If Hong Xia's destructive power was enough to exceed the shield's defensive limits, then he could shatter it instantly. If he could not surpass that limit, then he would never be able to break through.
