"How ridiculous," Officer Mei sneered after hearing Yuan’s reason for wanting to join the military.

"Do you think anyone can just join the military? Even if we ignored your laughably low cultivation, you still need at least Rank 3 Credentials to apply, as well as having no arrest record."

"No arrest record?" Yuan raised his eyebrows, and he asked, "So I can’t apply because you arrested me?"

"Although I did technically arrest you, unless you went to jail or did something heinous, there won’t be any records, so you’re still clean for now."

"Anyway, I don’t know what nonsense you have planned, but give up on joining the military. It’s not a playground."

"I am not going there to play," Yuan replied with a serious expression.

Officer Mei stared into his calm, unwavering eyes with a pondering expression.

After a moment of silence, she sighed, "Wait here for me. If you run away, I’ll consider it fleeing from an officer."

Without offering any explanation, Officer Mei walked away, disappearing into the hospital.

While Yuan waited for her to return, Officer Mei went to look for Doctor Ying.

"Hm? Why are you here?" Doctor Ying asked, not expecting her visit so soon.

"I wanted to talk to you about the weirdo I recommended to you," Officer Mei said.

Doctor Ying rubbed her eyes and sighed aloud, "I had a feeling you would come ask me about him since you recommended him to me, but I didn’t expect you to come here almost immediately after our session ended. Did you stalk him or something?"

"What? Of course not. It’s just a coincidence, and I am here for my yearly checkup."

"Is that so? Well, either way, he’s protected by patient confidentiality, so I cannot tell you about our session, even if you’re a police officer and my childhood friend, Mei."

"I don’t care about your session with him. I just want to know your opinion on his physique," Officer Mei quickly replied.

"Are you saying that you believe him?"

"I’m saying that he’s either a highly skilled manipulator, severely delusional, or... actually telling the truth."

"Nothing."

"Really? Even though you went out of your way to do all of this?"

"I merely want to satisfy my curiosity. That’s all there is to it," said Officer Mei before walking for the exit.

"Let’s go out for a drink later. It’s been a while since we went out to have fun," Officer Mei said as she reached the door.

"If you’re that bored, get a boyfriend," Doctor Ying teased with a playful smile.

Officer Mei merely shook her head in silence before leaving the room. However, instead of going back outside for Yuan, she called someone.

"System, call my mother."

"..."

Although the call connected, neither Officer Mei nor her mother spoke. For several long moments, the line remained completely silent.

"What is it?"

Eventually, a voice resounded, sounding somewhat surprised.

"Mother, when are you not busy? I need your assistance with something."

"Stop being vague and tell me what this is about."

"Well, it’s like this..." Officer Mei began explaining the situation to her.

Some time later, Officer Mei ended the call, left the hospital, and returned to find Yuan sitting quietly on the staircase, staring up at the blue sky.

"Hey, you want to join the military, right? I can help you," Officer Mei started the conversation with some unexpected words.

"What’s with the change of heart?" Yuan asked with a raised eyebrow.

"If you don’t want my help, that’s fine."

"I didn’t say that," Yuan quickly replied.

"Stop asking pointless questions and follow me," Officer Mei said.

’Is it because she resembles Meixiu that I cannot help but trust her?’ Yuan wondered inwardly as he followed her.

A few moments later, Officer Mei stopped in front of a square platform around the corner from the hospital and stepped onto it.

"What’s this?" Yuan asked out of curiosity.

"You’ll find out in a second. Just step on the platform," she replied.

Once Yuan stepped onto the platform beside her, Officer Mei muttered, "System, teleport us to..."

After providing an address, both Yuan and Officer Mei vanished from the platform outside the hospital.

Yuan’s vision flickered, and before he realized, he found himself standing in a residential area.

’So these are teleporters, huh?’

As Yuan wondered how they functioned without a teleportation array, Officer Mei stepped off the platform and called out to him, "What are you waiting for? You’ll block the teleporter if you don’t leave."

"Oh."

Hearing that, Yuan quickly stepped off the platform and continued following her.

Some time later, they arrived before a large villa.

"Is this your home?" Yuan questioned.

"It is."

"You don’t mind bringing a complete stranger like me home?"

"It is not like you can do anything to me," Officer Mei said with a casual shrug. "If you dare try anything, all it would take is a single flick of my finger to kill you."

"And what are we doing here? I thought you were going to help me enter the military."

"I know someone from the military, and they will be here in a bit to assess your qualifications," she explained.
