Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 199 - 189: Everyone’s Gone

Chapter 199: Chapter 189: Everyone’s Gone

"Let’s make our move when the water delivery comes today. We’re not waiting any longer."

The group had been fed like cattle, and just staying cooped up in this small room was no longer an option.

The tribal guards usually brought them water once every three days. The plan was to rush out the moment they opened the door and stop being penned up in here.

In truth, the wooden hut’s door couldn’t have held them for a while now, but Tang Mo hadn’t seen the end of the drama between this tribe and the Xing Clan.

She had wanted to wait a little longer, but it didn’t seem like things would resolve anytime soon. They would have to rethink their plans. Otherwise, if they waited any longer, they’d all gain a few pounds.

But they waited an entire day, from morning till night, and still no one came to give them water.

For the past week, it was as if they had been completely forgotten in this wooden hut.

If it weren’t for Tang Mo, their provider, they would have all starved or died of thirst long ago.

In fact, that was precisely the tribal chief’s intention. He had already plundered all their belongings, and his daughter had been married off due to a sudden turn of events.

Initially, he saw that this group had some power and thought it would be best to make use of them. They could have been a powerful asset in the war against the Xing Clan, making things much easier for his own people.

But after all this time, these people still refused to yield. ’They must be a tough nut to crack,’ he’d figured. ’Let them just rot here.’

"That’s it, I can’t take this anymore!"

The group had gotten the green light from the Boss Lady today. They’d been gearing up for a fight all day, rubbing their hands together until they were raw, but still had no chance to let loose. They were bursting with pent-up energy.

Lao Ba shot to his feet and aimed a kick at the wooden door.

This hut was, after all, the tribe’s prison, so it was quite sturdy.

The door didn’t budge. Lao Ba took a step back and lifted his foot again.

"Wait."

Tang Mo, who had been sitting in the corner nestled against Qin Ling, spoke up.

Seeing the Boss Lady stand up, Lao Ba thought his impulsive action had angered her. He hung his head, dejected, and prepared to back down.

The Boss Lady’s word was law.

No one in this room, now or ever, would dare to defy a single word from the Boss Lady.

"I got your weapons back for you. Don’t go breaking your foot."

Tang Mo stood up and, in one smooth motion, pulled out all the gear she had retrieved from the tribe’s storehouse, dumping it on the floor.

’Brute force is a last resort,’ she thought. ’Work smart, not hard.’

"Divide it up."

Everyone stared at the pile of gear on the floor, at a loss for words.

They simply went through the pile one by one, finding their own weapons and gear, and armed themselves from head to toe.

At this point, nothing the Boss Lady did could surprise them. It felt like even if she plucked the moon from Heavenly Mountain, it wouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary.

After all, Angels were all-powerful.

Tang Mo picked a backup pistol from the pile, hefting it in her hand to feel its weight. Then she grabbed a silencer from the floor and screwed it on.

She chambered a round and fired three quick shots—BANG! BANG! BANG!—right at the door’s lock.

Another kick, and the door swung open easily.

"Let’s go. We’re leaving."

Tang Mo executed the whole sequence with fluid grace, then was the first to step outside.

’So much for seeing the show,’ she thought. ’I’ll just consider it a good deed then—help the Xing Clan raze this tribe at the foot of the mountain to the ground.’

Repay every kindness, and avenge every grievance.

That business with Lea last time was just her collecting a little interest. The real revenge was only just beginning.

"Boss Lady, how come there’s not a single person here?"

The brothers had all been ready for a huge fight, but after getting out and walking for a while without seeing a soul, they felt like they’d thrown a heavy punch into a bale of cotton.

’This isn’t right.’

Tang Mo had seen what the tribe normally looked like. The houses were packed close together, and while the tribe wasn’t large, it was densely populated.

She had never seen a situation like this, with not a single person around.

The chief’s quarters were also empty. Lea and her new husband were nowhere to be found.

Tang Mo picked a house at random, drew a knife, and kicked the door in. The others followed behind her like bodyguards, each holding a weapon, their presence formidable.

Qin Ling followed at the very back, empty-handed. His doting eyes never left his wife, a look of sheer adoration on his face. He didn’t want to do anything but watch her; whatever Tang Mo did, his eyes filled with delight. Just looking at her made him happy.

Inside the house, a woman, clearly weak from having just given birth, was holding a swaddled infant. Her body trembled slightly as she watched them enter, cowering in the corner of the bed against the wall.

Tang Mo scanned the room. There was only the woman and her child inside.

"Where is everyone?"

"They... The chief took everyone in the tribe up the mountain. Only the elderly, women, and children with no strength are left."

The woman had just given birth a few days ago. She’d had a brush with death at the Ghost Gate and was still in poor health, so she naturally couldn’t go on the expedition with the chief.

She had seen all of these people before, except for the woman in the lead. They were the ones the chief had captured and whose belongings he had confiscated.

Now, it was obvious they had broken out. With the guards gone with the chief, the hut hadn’t been able to hold them.

’The tribe is empty now. There’s no one left who can help me. It looks like my newborn child and I won’t live to see another day.’

The woman clutched the child in her arms, saying a final goodbye in her heart.

’My poor baby,’ she thought. ’So small, you’ve barely had a few sips of milk.’

"Let’s go. Up the mountain."

Tang Mo understood immediately. It seemed the great battle between the humans and the Xing Clan was happening today.

What a coincidence. Better to arrive at the right time than to arrive early.

’Good thing I got everyone out today,’ she thought. ’Otherwise, we would have missed the show we waited so long for. What a shame that would have been.’

"Boss Lady, aren’t we going to raze this tribe to the ground? Are we just letting these people who are left go?"

Lao Ba was a straight shooter with no patience for subtleties. All he knew was that he and his brothers had suffered for days, and someone had to pay that debt. Otherwise, how could he ever feel vindicated?

Before Lao Ba’s words had even faded, Lao Er’s foot shot out and kicked him in the ass.

"Why do you talk so much? You’ll get your chance to fight soon enough. You want to pick a fight with the weak? Are you even a man? Pathetic!"

Lao Er was the only one among them who was married with a child, and his heart was far more considerate than those of the other roughnecks.

Tang Mo didn’t say anything. She was one to avenge every wrong done to her, but she wasn’t a bloodthirsty monster who had lost all sense of basic human decency.

Every debt has its debtor. No matter how furious she was, taking her anger out on the old, weak, sick, and disabled who didn’t even have the strength to fight back was not her style.
