Chapter 2271: Chapter 2272: Messages
Wilderness of Dreams, evening.
Angel’s figure appeared in Pat Manor at Originheart City, inside his own room.
The layout of the room was the same as in reality, and it was spotless, with the flame in the oil lamp still burning brightly, signifying that even during Angel’s absence, someone was still cleaning here.
Returning to this familiar space, Angel felt much calmer compared to sitting in front of the Vine House.
Angel sat down at the desk he often daydreamed at as a child, gazing at the flickering lamp flame, continuing to ponder on how to break the impasse.
He thought deeply for half an hour.
It wasn’t until footsteps sounded outside the door that Angel raised his head.
"Knock, knock, knock." A light voice sounded from outside: "Young Master, I’m coming in."
"The Young Master is definitely not in the room, no need to knock, we can just go in and refill the oil," another slightly immature voice said.
"Even if the Young Master isn’t back, he’s still the Young Master. It’s a rule." Though it sounded like a rebuke, there was no tone of complaint in it, clearly suggesting a good relationship between the two outside the door.
Click—
The door was opened, and two young maids entered, chatting and laughing as they walked.
It wasn’t until they stepped inside that they realized there was someone in the room.
They were initially shocked, but once they recognized the person inside, both maids immediately bowed, respectfully saying, "Young Master."
"We didn’t expect the Young Master would be back, so..." the maid with the immature voice hastily explained.
However, before she could finish, the maid holding the lamp oil interrupted her: "It’s my fault, I should have gotten the Young Master’s permission before opening the door, please punish me."
Angel looked at the two maids; he didn’t recognize the younger maid, but the one holding the lamp oil he did know, named Aya, who used to be a little attendant of Maid Ollie.
"No harm done, it’s just a small matter." Angel waved his hand, indicating they could go about their own tasks.
Maid Aya hesitated for a moment, nodded, then carried the lamp oil over. The young maid immediately followed, skillfully removing the lampshade from the desktop to let the flame float, allowing Aya to pour the lamp oil smoothly.
"Sorry to disturb you, Young Master, it will be done quickly."
As Aya poured the lamp oil, Angel casually said, "In the future, when I’m not here, there’s no need to light the lamp, to avoid waste."
Aya: "But, this... this is what Maid Ollie instructed me to do."
"Whose instructions are you following, Ollie’s or mine?"
Aya lowered her head: "Understood."
Aya quickly finished pouring the oil, bowed, and was about to leave with the young maid when Angel asked, "By the way, Ollie doesn’t seem to be at the manor, do you know what she’s been up to lately?"
Because Aya mentioned Ollie, Angel recalled that in his recent returns to Pat Manor, he hadn’t seen her and didn’t know what she was up to.
Angel could use God’s View to locate Ollie, but since Aya was here, he decided to just ask her directly.
"I don’t know what Maid Ollie has been doing lately," Aya said with her head down.
Angel glanced at Aya. She was looking down, but Angel could see she wasn’t telling the truth.
Angel turned his gaze to the young maid beside: "And you, do you know what Ollie’s been doing recently?"
Aya immediately lifted her head, attempting to signal the young maid with her eyes, but before she could, the young maid spoke first: "Young Master, Maid Ollie went to the Sin Hunting Group, she said she wants to become a Demon Hunter!"
The young maid’s voice carried obvious excitement, and when she mentioned Demon Hunter, her eyes were filled with longing.
Angel was taken aback by this answer.
In his memory, Maid Ollie was a gentle girl with not much courage, yet she chose to become a Demon Hunter who might transform into a monster?
After the young maid revealed Ollie’s situation, Aya sighed quietly.
Angel looked over: "Why did you sigh?"
Aya hesitated for a while, then with an apologetic expression, said: "Young Master, I actually know about Maid Ollie joining the Sin Hunting Group, but she doesn’t want it spread around, especially not to let the Young Master know."
"Why?"
Aya: "She hopes to continue serving the Young Master, but since the Young Master is already an Extraordinary Life, she said that only by possessing Transcendent powers can she help you. But passing the Sin Hunting Group’s exams to become a Demon Hunter isn’t easy, it could even be... fatal. So, she asked me to keep it a secret."
In fact, even the Head Maid Mana doesn’t know about Ollie’s decision to join the Sin Hunting Group, only Aya and the young maid know.
Aya and Ollie are friends, so Ollie told Aya at the first opportunity when she joined the Sin Hunting Group. But the young maid was different. While everyone else feared the existence of Demon Hunters, she was filled with enthusiasm and interest, determined to become a Demon Hunter, frequently visiting the Sin Hunting Group’s base, where she met Ollie and learned the truth.
Aya simply forgot to tell her not to spread it around.
Angel, after listening, said nothing but nodded lightly: "I understand, you can both leave now."
Aya and Ollie nodded, turned around, and left.
After they left, Angel pondered for a moment but couldn’t resist opening God’s View to search for Ollie’s whereabouts.
Eventually, Angel spotted Ollie on an airship.
This airship had the Sin Hunting Group’s emblem on it, clearly a dedicated vessel. Ollie was sitting inside, wearing soft armor. Compared to the somewhat timid maid-attired Ollie of the past, the current Ollie holding a sword looked quite heroic.
Angel observed Ollie closely, noting that she hadn’t only joined the Sin Hunting Group but had also integrated into the Sin-powered creatures.
Angel withdrew his gaze; although he respected Ollie’s choice, it’s nearly impossible for her to rely on Demon Hunter abilities to assist him. However, Ollie could support Frode as a Demon Hunter.
After all, the power of Demon Hunters is more indigenous, and when it truly erupts, it can be stronger than the Wizards of the Wilderness of Dreams.
Angel thought for a bit, picked up the Mother Tree Interlinker, and prepared to contact Frode through the tree network.
Just as he opened the Mother Tree Interlinker, Angel saw several unread messages.
Some of them were from Mentor Sanders and Brother Lyon.
Angel temporarily put the message aside and contacted Frode.
Frode was online and quickly replied: "Sir, do you need something from me?"
Frode’s tone was very surprised because usually, when Angel entered the Wilderness of Dreams, he would come to him directly instead of contacting him via the interlinker.
Since it wasn’t a big deal, Angel didn’t plan to visit Frode and mentioned Ollie’s situation directly through the private chat of the tree group.
"Ollie? Was she recruited after the expansion of the Sin Hunting Group? Sir, please wait a moment."
Before long, Frode replied: "I have just contacted Sir Sabel. Before the expansion of the Sin Hunting Group, Ollie was already in training with them. Moreover, she has been training for quite a long time."
"Because of the appearance of the Mist of Sin, the camp built by the Sin Hunting Group urgently needed fresh blood to defend it. A few days ago, Ollie accepted the Flight Unit No. 013 Sin Power Creature Old Covenant, successfully bonded, and boarded the airship this morning, being dispatched to the frontline."
"Sir, do you need the airship to return and assign someone to replace Ollie?"
Angel thought for a moment and said, "No need, just keep a casual watch on the situation."
Frode: "I understand. Sir, is there anything else?"
Angel originally wanted to inquire about the situation on Frode’s end, but since Frode didn’t mention it, it seemed there was no major issue.
"Nothing else." After ending the chat with Frode, Angel’s mind flashed with the image of Ollie, who was once his personal maid.
In the flickering light of the quiet room, Angel gently murmured to himself, "I hope you live more brilliantly than before."
After a while, Angel picked up the Mother Tree Interlinker again and opened the unread messages.
Among them, Jon’s team behind the Mother Tree network development sent some update suggestions and ideas. Angel glanced through them and replied: "Sure."
Some of the ideas, Angel actually felt, didn’t have much significance. However, he didn’t deny them. Since the Mother Tree network was still in an internal testing phase and not fully released, it didn’t matter how they experimented with it.
After all, this was an untraveled path, better to let them encounter some obstacles.
Moreover, Angel believed that since Jon was someone who lived in the information explosion era on Earth, he must have noticed some of the shortcomings in the ideas. However, he also didn’t point them out, clearly sharing Angel’s thinking.
Angel browsed through the tree group messages, directly skipping over messages such as the routine reports on the New City construction progress from Lianna. He also skipped over other irrelevant messages.
Finally, Angel’s gaze fell on the messages from his brother Lyon and Sanders.
However, they were brothers, so even if Lyon sent meaningless pictures, Angel would still respond solemnly. Of course, Lyon couldn’t send pictures right now as the image transmission feature was still in development, with some operational difficulties remaining.
After checking in on Lyon’s current situation, Angel then looked at Sanders’ messages.
Sanders: "My research is almost done, and, Sumishe’s injury has begun to stabilize, allowing him to accept authority. Based on the message timestamp, in seven days, let Sumishe undertake new authority."
This message was dated yesterday, meaning there were five days left until Sumishe would undertake new authority.
Since Sanders was offline, Angel replied with an "Understood," and said nothing more.
Seeing that he had finished reading the messages and replied to most of them, Angel was about to put away the Mother Tree Interlinker.
But at that moment, a new private message came in.
Tree Spirit: "Are you there?"
Just as Angel was curious why Tree Spirit knew he was online, he saw Tree Spirit quickly send a new message: "I know you’re there, you just replied to messages from the development group members."
Angel silently opened the adjacent tree group and sure enough, saw Kudodo talking, saying that Angel had agreed to the new development plan and asking everyone to start working on it.
Tree Spirit was also in this tree group and clearly saw Kudodo’s message.
Angel originally had no plans to pretend to be offline, especially since Tree Spirit had said so, Angel could not ignore it.
"I’m here, Lord Tree Spirit, is there something you need from me?" Angel asked.
Tree Spirit: "I do have something to tell you..."
As Tree Spirit narrated, Angel roughly understood the situation. Just two days ago, "Wan Zhi" Xilengding obtained a login device from Rhein after signing a short-term confidentiality contract.
Upon entering the Wilderness of Dreams, "Wan Zhi" Xilengding was filled with curiosity about the place. After probing from various angles and his own speculations, he quickly learned that the terrifying reserves of rare materials in the New City were achieved through what was called the most useless mysterious object—the "Dream Conch of the Moonlit Coast."
After understanding the effects of the Dream Conch, Xilengding seemed intent on doing something and had been searching for Angel these recent days.
He even reached out to Tree Spirit.
Thus, Tree Spirit sent this communication: "Judging from Xilengding’s posture, he seems to want to use your Dream Conch to pull some things into the Wilderness of Dreams. If he does come to you, you must think carefully."
Actually, during this time, several wizards had made requests to Angel, hoping that after he returned to the Barbarian Cave, he could use the Dream Conch to help pull some things into the Wilderness of Dreams. Among them were Lianna, Nis, Wallace, Dumatin... and others.
Tree Spirit hadn’t separately communicated these requests. But, Tree Spirit was very concerned about Xilengding’s request, indicating there was more to the story.
Angel asked the doubts in his heart.
Tree Spirit: "Xilengding may appear as a White Wizard, but at his core, he is a Black Wizard who will stop at nothing and has an almost nonexistent bottom line. Even against fellow wizards from the Barbarian Cave, he would set traps. When facing his request, you must inquire thoroughly."
In simple terms, Tree Spirit was suggesting that Xilengding might be trying to set a trap for Angel.
Angel replied, "I understand."
Regarding "Wan Zhi" Xilengding, Angel didn’t know much, only that he was the mentor of Black Jack’s wizard. However, Xilengding took Black Jack as a student purely for the Inscription Studies in Black Jack’s possession, with very strong motives.
Sanders had once warned Angel to stay away from Xilengding.
Now, seeing even Tree Spirit specifically sending a message to caution him, Angel would naturally take it to heart.
Tree Spirit: "As long as you understand, then I won’t say more. I’m off to see how they are developing the Mother Tree network."
Just as Tree Spirit was about to switch to the adjacent tree group, Angel sent another message.
"Lord Tree Spirit, do you know how to survive in a Spatial Tempest?"
