The Rising Phoenix

Chapter 1033: Invisible Attacks

Chapter 1033: Chapter 1033: Invisible Attacks

In fact, Ji Yuan appeared so thoroughly immersed in whatever heavy memories were occupying his mind that he did not even notice the sound of her approaching footsteps.

"Teacher Ji." Bai Xifeng called out softly, stepping into the room.

Only then did Ji Yuan finally react. His gaze slowly refocused, and he turned his head toward his student. For a brief, fleeting moment, there was a deeply complicated look hidden in his eyes before it quickly disappeared into the void, replaced once again by his usual calm, unreadable expression.

Bai Xifeng walked over casually and sat down on the mat across from him. Neither of them spoke immediately. Outside, the bamboo leaves rustled gently in the afternoon breeze, filling the brief silence between them with a soothing sound.

Eventually, Ji Yuan was the first one to break the quiet.

"What exactly happened to you today?" Ji Yuan asked, his eyes fixing squarely on her. His voice was perfectly calm, but Bai Xifeng could still easily hear the lingering trace of raw concern hidden beneath his steady tone. "Why on earth were you in that horrifying state earlier?"

His intense gaze swept over her whole body once more, as though he were actively confirming for a second time that she was truly unharmed and whole. Even now, the vivid image of Bai Xifeng arriving covered in blood and jagged wounds seemed entirely unwilling to leave his mind.

Bai Xifeng scratched her cheek awkwardly, feeling a bit self-conscious.

"Well..." Bai Xifeng began, clearing her throat.

Thinking back to the entire bizarre experience, she could not help but feel a sudden surge of pure frustration.

"I went to the Cultivation Pagoda early this morning. I climbed the grand staircase and somehow ended up being placed right on the 888th floor." Bai Xifeng explained.

Ji Yuan remained perfectly silent, listening intently.

Bai Xifeng paused for a brief moment to gauge his reaction before continuing.

"At first, the environment looked just like a completely normal forest. There was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary there. No magical beasts. No other people. Just nothing." Bai Xifeng’s expression darkened slightly as she recalled the setting. "So, since it was empty, I decided to cook and eat my lunch first."

Ji Yuan’s left eyelid twitched distinctly. Of course, she would do that. Leave it to his student to prioritise a barbecue in the cultivation pagoda.

Bai Xifeng either entirely failed to notice his subtle reaction or simply chose to ignore it altogether.

"Right after I finished eating every bite, I wanted to sit down and cultivate my energy. But the exact millisecond I closed my eyes, something violently attacked me." Bai Xifeng exclaimed dramatically.

Ji Yuan’s relaxed posture vanished, and his expression immediately became dead serious. "Something attacked you?"

"Yeah. The incredibly strange thing is that I could not see the attacker at all. It was completely, 100% invisible. I could not find it with my own eyes, and I could not even detect its presence with my spiritual senses either. The attacks would just suddenly appear out of absolute nowhere and leave deep wounds all over my body." Bai Xifeng frowned deeply as she recalled the details of the encounter.

"What happened after that?" Ji Yuan narrowed his eyes into sharp slits.

"That invisible bastard was completely shameless!" At the mere mention of what followed, Bai Xifeng immediately became visibly annoyed.

Ji Yuan remained silent, letting his student vent her anger.

"He even actively targeted my healing elixir! I took out a bottle of healing elixir to heal my cuts and and before I could even pop the wooden stopper and drink it, he shattered the glass right in my hand. Ah... My money..." Bai Xifeng’s lips twitched in lingering annoyance as she remembered the wasted liquid.

For some odd reason, Ji Yuan was not even remotely surprised that the loss of the potion was the specific part of the life-or-death battle she seemed most upset about.

"So, what did you do next?" Ji Yuan asked, genuinely curious.

"I ran." Bai Xifeng answered without a single shred of hesitation.

"You ran?" Ji Yuan stared at her blankly.

"Of course I ran!" Bai Xifeng looked at him as if that was the most obvious, logical answer in the world. "I could not see it. I could not track it. I could not hit it back. Why on earth would I just stand around there like an idiot and let it beat me up for free?"

Ji Yuan was momentarily left completely speechless. When she put it into those exact, blunt terms, her cowardice actually sounded quite reasonable and tactically sound.

"Then, while I was running, I discovered something interesting." Bai Xifeng said, leaning forward slightly across the table. "The creature only attacked me when I completely stopped moving."

Ji Yuan’s eyes flashed with a sudden spark of realisation. "Oh?"

"When I was sprinting, it did not attack me at all. But the exact moment I slowed down or stopped, the invisible attacks started right back up again." Bai Xifeng crossed her arms over her chest, letting out a huff. "So, I just kept running laps through the trees until my allotted ten hours in the Cultivation Pagoda finally ran out."

The corner of Ji Yuan’s mouth twitched slightly, a wave of profound disbelief washing over him. He had been expecting a fierce, epic, life-or-death struggle against a mythical entity. Instead, his star disciple had apparently spent hours frantically running cardio away from an invisible enemy across an entire simulated forest.

Yet, despite that absurd strategy, she had still somehow managed to comfortably reach the 888th floor of the tower. Even Ji Yuan did not know whether he should praise her unique adaptability or scold her for her ridiculous methods.
