The Rising Phoenix

Chapter 1028: Huge Forest

Chapter 1028: Chapter 1028: Huge Forest

When Bai Xifeng reached the very top step, a vast, ancient forest stretching as far as the eye could see greeted her vision. The moment her feet completely left the stone structure and touched the grass, a soft hum echoed behind her, and the massive staircase vanished into thin air without leaving a single trace.

Bai Xifeng blinked in surprise. She turned around sharply and looked behind her. There was nothing but an empty void. The staircase had completely disappeared.

"I guess there is no going back that way." Bai Xifeng muttered to herself, completely unfazed by the spatial magic.

She turned her full attention back to the dense forest looming before her, wondering what kind of bizarre trial or dangerous challenge she would have to face on this particular floor. Since standing around at the edge would accomplish absolutely nothing, she made up her mind and decided to walk deeper into the thick woods.

After walking for some time, Bai Xifeng gradually began to notice another highly unsettling detail. This forest was far too quiet. In fact, it was unnaturally, suffocatingly silent.

If this had been a real, living forest in the outside world, her sharp senses should have picked up countless ambient sounds. The rustling of leaves in the wind. The chirping of hidden birds. The distant babbling of flowing rivers. The terrifying, faraway growls of magical beasts. Something. Anything.

Yet, this simulated forest had absolutely nothing. The only sound echoing through the trees was the steady, rhythmic thud of her own footsteps crushing the dry leaves beneath her boots.

Then, Bai Xifeng suddenly remembered exactly where she was. She was inside the magical realms of the Cultivation Pagoda. This was never meant to be a normal, organic forest to begin with.

"Fuck! The spatial details are way too realistic. I completely forgot about that." Bai Xifeng muttered, rubbing the back of her head awkwardly as she realised she had been tricked by the illusion.

She looked around the area once more. All she could see were endless rows upon rows of towering, ancient trees stretching straight into the foggy distance. There was no visible path to follow, no convenient signposts, no hidden clues, and oddly enough, no spawning enemies. She had absolutely no inkling of what she was actually supposed to achieve on this floor.

Since she could not figure out the hidden objective of the trial, she figured she had no choice but to simply continue walking forward blindly. Time slowly ticked away in the silent realm.

After wandering aimlessly through the eerie forest for quite a while, Bai Xifeng eventually began to feel physically and mentally tired from the monotony. Since there was still no sign of anything unusual happening, she decided it was the perfect time to take a well-deserved break. And since she was already planning to sit down and rest, she figured she might as well eat something delicious to pass the time.

The very moment that greedy thought entered her mind, she immediately began intensely craving the savoury taste of freshly roasted meat. Without a single moment of hesitation, she selected a suitable, clear patch of grass and quickly began setting up a small, fully functional cooking area. She gathered the necessary dry wood from the surrounding trees, arranged it properly in a neat fire pit, and lit a bright fire with a spark of her energy.

Once the warm flames were burning steadily and casting a bright glow against the trees, Bai Xifeng happily reached into her storage rune and pulled out several thick, high-quality pieces of raw meat. She carefully seasoned the meat with an assortment of rich spices, coarse salt, and ground pepper, preparing the skewers for roasting over the open flame. At the same time, she also pulled out a small pan and several fresh vegetables, quickly preparing them for a crisp stir-fry.

Whatever terrifying challenge this mysterious floor had in store for her would just have to wait. Fill her stomach, and eating always came first.

The rich, savoury aroma of sizzling fat and perfectly blended spices quickly began to waft through the otherwise lifeless air of the silent forest. Bai Xifeng sat cross-legged on a smooth stone, turning the thick skewers of meat over the crackling open flames with a look of pure, undivided focus.

To her, it did not matter if she was currently trapped inside a legendary cultivation trial meant to test the absolute limits of the academy’s elite geniuses. A good meal was simply non-negotiable.

"Roasted meat, here you are." Bai Xifeng grinned to herself, her eyes crinkling as she held up a perfectly roasted, sizzling skewer.

Without wasting a single second, she immediately tore into the meat and began chewing happily. The seasoning was absolutely perfect. The outside was slightly crispy from the fire, while the inside remained incredibly juicy and tender. As she thoroughly enjoyed the roasted meat with one hand, her other hand skillfully wielded a pair of chopsticks to pick up the savoury, stir-fried vegetables from the pan. After all, maintaining a balanced diet was important, even when stranded inside a magical tower trial.

Once she had completely finished eating every last bite, Bai Xifeng immediately cleaned up the cooking area, scattered the ash, and thoroughly extinguished the fire. Since there still seemed to be absolutely nothing else happening on this quiet floor, she decided she might as well spend the remaining hours cultivating her spiritual energy. She sat down on the soft grass in a comfortable meditation position, straightened her back, and slowly closed her eyes to focus her mind.

However, the exact moment she attempted to clear her thoughts and enter a deep cultivation state, she was suddenly and viciously attacked. The lethal force came rushing at her directly from behind.
