Chapter 1591: Dry Yang (II)

Chapter 1591: Dry Yang (II)

As the smoke dispersed across the ground, Li Zhouwei slowly rose to his feet. True Fire blazed around him with intertwining Supreme Yang flames. The immense heat caused his Body Divine Ability to hum and tremble, and fine cracks began to appear.

What a formidable [Sovereign In Peril]!

The two stood facing each other from afar. Just as the balance of the battle seemed poised to shift, two streaks of light flew in from the distance and materialized nearby. One drove a spirit sword forward in a slashing attack, while the other unleashed a suppressive divine ability.

Together they shouted, "Lord Shilou, we're here to help you!"

Li Zhouwei was forced to stop catching his breath. His halberd rose once more, intercepting the incoming spirit sword. At the same time, a flash of light flickered between his eyebrows. [Heavenly Radiance, Hidden Light] instantly shattered the incoming spell. Only then did he take a closer look at the newcomers.

They wore flowing sleeves, white-and-purple robes, and horizontal jade ornaments tucked into their bound hair. Their attire bore traces of foreign influence without fully adopting it. They were none other than the two men who had competed with him for the spirit treasure in the Hall of Radiant Fire earlier.

Bold fools! They must have been searching for a way out and happened upon our battle. Since they have ties to the Gao Family and still harbor resentment from before, greed has clearly gotten the better of them!

Their sudden appearance caught even Shilou Yingge off guard.

Li Zhouwei's guess was correct. Both men belonged to the Purple Mansion Realm of the Xiangli Family and hailed from Yan State. Their family was one of the rising clans of recent years, though its foundations remained shallow. One of them, Xiangli Zhuyun, possessed considerable talent. However, the other, Xiangli Shiyu, was noticeably less impressive...

The unexpected intervention disrupted Shilou Yingge's plans, causing him to frown inwardly.

His battle with Li Zhouwei had never been about spirit items or spirit treasures. His purpose was to aid the Gao Family by wounding Li Zhouwei. If both sides ended up severely injured, so much the better. He had no need for assistance from others. Feeling somewhat displeased, he could only watch with a furrowed brow.

As the two attacked together, crimson cinnabar rain descended while white qi surged through the air. Li Zhouwei's eyes, however, shone with increasing brilliance. He raised his halberd and swept it across the battlefield in a mighty arc!

Clang!

The rain of cinnabar was instantly swept away by heavenly light. The flying sword in the sky suddenly rose, only for the golden radiance of [Da Sheng] to shatter its accompanying divine ability. [Effect Attachment] surged forward, turning defense into offense as it thrust toward the man instead.

A blazing white spell rushed in from the side, yet Li Zhouwei merely glanced at it. Holding the halberd in one hand, he raised the other high before slicing it downward.

Bang!

Whatever mysterious white divine ability it was, it never had the chance to display its power before [Sovereign In Peril]. It exploded into scattered streams of light on the spot. [Da Sheng] only slowed slightly, its gleaming blade still fixed squarely on Xiangli Shiyu's chest!

A chill immediately ran down Xiangli Shiyu's spine.

Watching from afar had been one thing, yet facing Li Zhouwei directly was another entirely. The overwhelming pressure crashed down upon him once more, and his expression darkened as he realized just how terrifying Li Zhouwei's Body Divine Ability truly was.

Even a Maha wouldn't necessarily be stronger... A Maha certainly wouldn't possess so many divine abilities and techniques!

Damn it!

Heavenly light spread across the sky as a protective divine ability of white radiance descended. Xiangli Shiyu's wariness had already reached its peak, yet Li Zhouwei merely flicked his weapon upward and struck the incoming divine ability.

The white-radiance divine ability shuddered violently, and Xiangli Shiyu himself was sent flying along with it. Li Zhouwei did not pause for even a moment. The true threat was already taking shape overhead.

The twelve streams of True Fire radiance released by the [Crimson Wood Radiant Feather] were descending from above, while the rushing [Supplementary Court Verdant Profound Cauldron] had been pinned in place by Xiangli Zhuyun, who controlled the cinnabar rain that filled the area.

Boom!

Amid the surging True Fire, a radiant heavenly gate finally rose into existence, allowing floating clouds and flickering heavenly light to spread across the sky around it. The colors on Li Zhouwei's face deepened as he coughed up a mouthful of blood. The flames around him grew even more violent, yet his aura continued to climb higher and higher!

[Sovereign In Peril] was already operating at full capacity, yet the pressure created from being besieged by multiple opponents continued to amplify its power. It had already grown roughly thirty percent stronger than before.

That additional thirty percent might not sound like much, but when enhanced by the [Heaven-Venerating Gate], it allowed him to remain standing in the sky. Even while injured and coughing blood, he did not retreat a single step. Instead, he radiated boundless brilliance amidst the raging True Fire and Supreme Yang flames.

He held the halberd in one hand, its blade angled toward the ground. His other hand was raised before him, already gripping the profound bangle from his wrist. His fingers slowly tightened around it. Those golden eyes seemed to pierce through the endless sea of flames, locking directly onto Shilou Yingge beyond the curtain of True Fire!

Shilou Yingge's expression stiffened. The iridescent brilliance of the [Crimson Wood Radiant Feather] rapidly dimmed as it rushed back to defend its master.

He could never have imagined this. Earlier, even with the protection of the [Supplementary Court Verdant Profound Cauldron], Li Zhouwei had still been blasted from the sky by the [Crimson Wood Radiant Feather]. Yet now even though the cauldron had been restrained, Li Zhouwei stood unmoving within the descending True Fire radiance as though it could not shake him at all.

Clang!

Before Shilou Yingge could understand what was happening, one of the [Dry Yang Bangles] in Li Zhouwei's hand vanished.

Boom!

A crimson streak shot downward like an arrow released from a bow and crashed heavily into the ground. Shilou Yingge plummeted through the clouds, while the golden phantom of the [Heaven-Venerating Gate] flashed into existence for only an instant. At the same moment, the halberd swept upward.

Having landed his blow, Li Zhouwei immediately charged toward Xiangli Shiyu, who had only just raised his sword. The man's expression changed drastically.

Xiangli Zhuyun had only just succeeded in restraining the [Supplementary Court Verdant Profound Cauldron]. He had never imagined that Li Zhouwei would become so terrifying once he began fighting with his life on the line. Although the spirit treasure's radiance had appeared but for a brief moment, it was enough to shock anyone present.

Seeing Li Zhouwei charge at his clansman, he immediately activated his divine ability. Cinnabar rain began falling from the sky, converging upon Li Zhouwei in an attempt to stop him.

Xiangli Shiyu was both alarmed and furious. The divine ability beneath his feet abruptly ceased as he gathered white radiance once again and summoned a spirit artifact, preparing to prevent his opponent from activating his spirit treasure once more.

To his surprise, the seemingly unstoppable Li Zhouwei merely brushed past him and sped into the distance!

Strands of cinnabar rain pierced flesh, bone, and marrow, riddling the earth with countless holes. Yet the attack was too dispersed to stop him. Empowered by the escalating might of [Sovereign In Peril] and layer upon layer of enhancements, Li Zhouwei transformed into a streak of golden light and vanished into the distance.

The Xiangli brothers exchanged glances, both feeling an unexpected sense of relief. When they looked down again, Shilou Yingge was already gone. Only devastation remained. True Fire still blazed among the ruins; heavenly light flowed across the shattered landscape; and destruction stretched as far as the eye could see.

"I wonder what he managed to obtain..."

Their expressions had only just relaxed when the shimmering radiance overhead began to fade. Xiangli Zhuyun's face changed as uncertainty and alarm filled his eyes.

"The great void?"

The suppressive force that had enveloped this world suddenly disappeared. The aura of the great void resurfaced, and violent tremors spread in every direction. Mountains collapsed, ruins caved in, and both men immediately turned pale.

"The grotto heaven is about to collapse!"

In the blink of an eye, the two vanished. The streaks of light roaming throughout this world likewise departed one after another, leaving no trace behind. The entire grotto heaven shifted from frantic activity to a deep and profound stillness. A faint mist spread across the land as dim shadows drifted through the air. All color gradually faded away.

The True Monarchs had already departed.

Only the Grand Daoist Masters atop the central peak continued their battle. Spectacular phenomena erupted without end as the grotto heaven split apart and the great void itself was torn asunder. Vast storms of spiritual energy swept outward from the mountain's center. Tens of thousands of skeletal remains kneeling among the dense buildings toppled one after another, tumbling across the ground and leaving chaos in their wake.

Only the headless corpse at the foot of the mountain remained standing motionless, clad in a crane-feather cloak and robes covered in scripture. The raging storm stirred only the soft feathers upon its collar and the plumes of its cloak. The spirit sword beside it hummed softly, as though patiently waiting to become the spoils of whichever Grand Daoist Master emerged victorious.

The severed head lying on the ground kept its eyes tightly shut as it rolled twice in the storm before coming to rest face-up.

A strand of elegant black hair drifted across its forehead and brushed against its high nose bridge. As the disturbances of the great void grew ever stronger, a hazy white radiance enveloped him.

The tightly closed eyelids trembled, and the pressed lips moved ever so slightly, as though whispering, "They kill... the followers of my Dao..."

The headless corpse clad in the crane-feather cloak and scripture-covered robes slowly bent down and lifted the head into its hands. Amid the surrounding darkness, those empty pure black eyes opened and gazed silently toward the sky.

"And now... they plunder... my Dao lineage once more..."
