Car Racing without Money

Chapter 92: The New Super Dream Team (Part 2)

From Chen Xiangbei's perspective, the entire process had a stroke of luck to it. In terms of Suzuki Aguri, it seemed more like a mutually beneficial arrangement.

He needed a talented driver to maintain the Super Aguri Team's "legacy" in the European formula field, waiting for an opportunity to make a comeback!

When the daylight was almost there, Chen Xiangbei called Lu Xiaoman, who was far away in East Sea, to chat about his future career plans and see if she was willing to join the racing team.

After all, Lu Xiaoman was different from Feng Yong and Zhao Lei, the two technician mechanics. Without the family connections and Zhang Zhicong's personal ties, she had no reason to engage in the racing industry given her family background.

According to the standard partnership terms, Chen Xiangbei didn't have to pay the team salary, but he did have to cover living and travel expenses.

This was where Lu Xiaoman's multiple roles came in handy, one person could perform the work of three, offering great "value for money"!

Lu Xiaoman was more amazed by Chen Xiangbei's invitation than Liang Chi, surprised that this young guy could form a team to compete in Europe.

Without much hesitation, Lu Xiaoman agreed. As she put it, she simply wanted to witness how far Chen Xiangbei could go in the formula field.

After sorting these out, Chen Xiangbei took a bus to train at the Honda Racing Academy, appreciating that no matter what circumstances and changes occurred, this guy never slackened or stopped!

Two days later, Suzuki Aguri arrived at the Honda Racing Academy, bringing along a formal contract. Besides the standard driver contract terms, it also included team member appointments.

The Renault level entry-level formula's demand for team members was far less exaggerated compared to F1 racing teams.

Liang Chi was appointed as the chief technician, with Feng Yong and Zhao Lei joining the team alongside five Japanese technician members.

They were not exclusive to serving Chen Xiangbei, but Suzuki Aguri thought that since they decided to maintain the European team's fundamental existence, why not support another Japanese driver racing for Renault.

This driver was currently training in karting in Europe, Kobayashi Shuji.

Kobayashi Shuji wasn't part of the ARTA team's training system. Initially, he was sent to Europe through the Honda Rider's youth training program.

However, when the Honda Group announced its withdrawal from F1 in 08, simultaneously pulling out from various levels of formula teams in Europe, Kobayashi Shuji found himself without support.

Conveniently, Suzuki Aguri decided to return, leading to a timely agreement to transfer Kobayashi Shuji to the ARTA team, while the Honda Group announced technical support, creating a win-win scenario.

Lu Xiaoman took on the role of Chen Xiangbei's nutritionist, trainer, and lost the physician status, yet gained the position of agent.

Becoming a professional driver meant dealing with lots of trivial matters which, if Chen Xiangbei handled by himself, would consume a lot of time and affect his training; thus, a dedicated agent was necessary.

Just like those discussions and contracts, drivers usually leave those to their agents and wouldn't run around themselves.

Moreover, regarding sponsorship agreements within China, Chen Xiangbei couldn't fly back and forth from Europe to handle them. The only reliable person around was Lu Xiaoman, temporarily holding the fort.

Sawano Hiroyuki also took on the role of his race engineer, along with a pleasant surprise, Mizutani Sho decided to join Director Sawano in switching to the ARTA team as a data analyst and electronic engineer.

Finally, the team leader position was entrusted to former Super Aguri Team leader Daniel Odetto, who had rich experience and connections in the field, having been the director of the Ferrari Team in the seventies.

Chen Xiangbei quickly scanned through the contract, finding his conditions fully met, and Suzuki Aguri indeed showed great sincerity.

Without much hesitation, Chen Xiangbei directly signed his name on the contract.

"Xiangbei, welcome to officially join the Super Dream Team!"

Suzuki Aguri stood up to congratulate Chen Xiangbei.

"Super Dream Team?"

Chen Xiangbei appeared confused; the full name of ARTA team was actually very ordinary, named after a Japanese automotive services company, transliterated as "Autobacs."

Even if not translated by full name, the abbreviation should be "Alta" team, so what was this "Super Dream" thing?

Seeing the confusion on Chen Xiangbei's face, Suzuki Aguri explained with a smile: "The era of Super Aguri is past, ARTA team doesn't fully sponsor overseas formula, I've decided to name the new team Super Dream."

"The English name is Super Dream, meaning Super Dream!"

Hearing Suzuki Aguri's explanation, Chen Xiangbei was struck with disbelief; was this old man bonded with the word "Super"?

The former team was named Super Aguri, now directly named Super Dream.

That being said, the full name Super Dream was a bit cheesy, but the abbreviation "Super Dream" wasn't too bad.

At this moment, Nakajima Goro accompanying him spoke up: "Xiangbei, the Renault European Cup schedule is close to the F1 calendar, starting in March; you currently have over a month to prepare."

"Although you're no longer a student of the Honda Racing Academy, as part of the Honda camp, the academy can still provide training support."

ARTA team's training conditions were decent, but compared with the Honda Racing Academy, which owned the Suzuka Circuit, it was at a minor league level.
