Suddenly, pale blue energy began to gather around his blade, but this was different from before.
The energy compressed and condensed, becoming so dense that it actually started to warp the space around the sword.
Stars, tiny points of brilliant white light, began to appear in the air around Marcus, as though he had summoned a piece of the night sky itself.
"Star Killing Sword!" Marcus shouted, bringing his blade down in a vertical slash.
"WHOOSH!"
A massive crescent of pale blue energy, easily twenty meters wide and filled with those gleaming star-like points of light, erupted from his sword and screamed toward Levi.
The technique was so powerful that it carved a deep furrow in the ground as it traveled, and trees in its path were sliced into numerous tiny pieces.
Levi's eyes widened as he sensed the overwhelming destructive power contained in that attack.
The attack was so fast that before he could react, it was almost an inch away from him!
〔Innate Skill: Crimson Thunder Bolt〕
— Condense a spear of crimson lightning that pierces defenses and detonates with divine thunder.
〔Innate Skill: Divine Thunder Tiger Might〕
— Host Transforms into his crimson Tiger form, increasing strength by 300%.
〔Innate Skill: Thunder God's Wrath〕
— In crimson Tiger form, calls forth world-shattering crimson thunderbolts from the heavens themselves.
"Thunder God' Might!"
"AHHHHH!" Levi's eyes widened and vein erupted from underneath his skin as he roared.
The darkened sky turned even darker as massive amount of thunder streaks crackled through the clouds like a thunderstorm storm.
Instantly, the temperature in the air nearby increased drastically as massive streaks of intertwined with each other, forming a streak of lightning that was more than a human width thick as it struck downwards, directly drilling into Levi's head.
Massive amount of crimson lightning exploded from Levi's body as though he was he was born of thunder.
He energy which had been reduced to more than ten percent suddenly increased to more than thirty percent but it still wasn't enough.
The thunder was so destructive that it turned the surprising trees to ashes.
"Crimson Bolt!"
The thunder around his body suddenly converged as it surrounded his cleaver. However, that was all.
"Inferno Slash!"
Intense flame on one side and destructive thunder on another side,
He poured every ounce of power he could muster into his cleaver, activating his Inferno Slash technique while simultaneously channeling crimson bolt skill, forming a whole new technique entirely.
"Inferno Lightning Slash!" Levi bellowed, bringing his cleaver up to meet Marcus's descending Star Killing Sword.
The two techniques collided in mid-air, and the resulting explosion was cataclysmic.
"BOOOOOOOOOM!"
The shockwave from the impact flattened everything within a hundred-meter radius. Trees that had stood for decades were ripped from the ground and sent tumbling through the air like leaves.
The ground itself cracked and split, creating a spiderweb of fissures that radiated outward from the point of collision. The very air seemed to scream as conflicting energies tore at the fabric of reality.
For several seconds, the two attacks ground against each other, neither able to overcome the other. Flames and lightning battled against condensed star energy, creating a spherical zone of pure destruction where they met.
Then, gradually, the energies began to dissipate, canceling each other out. The brilliant light faded, leaving behind smoking craters and scorched earth.
Levi stood on one knee, breathing heavily. His cleaver was still intact, but barely. Cracks had formed along the blade from channeling such immense power through a weapon that hadn't been designed to handle it. His transformed body was covered in small burns and cuts from the backlash of the technique collision.
Marcus, for his part, looked slightly winded but otherwise unharmed. His sword remained perfect and unblemished. "Impressive," he said, and this time there was genuine respect in his voice. "You actually managed to counter my Star Killing Sword. That's something even most Rank 4 Genetic Soldiers can't do."
He began walking forward, his sword held casually at his side. "But that was your last trick, wasn't it? I can see it in your eyes. You're exhausted, running on fumes. That flame lightning technique of yours, while powerful, burns through your energy reserves too quickly. You can't use it again."
Levi panted heavily but he didn't say anything but stared hatefully forwards.
That last exchange had drained him severely. His liquefied Astra energy and reduced to nothing, leaving with simple Astra energy.
His regeneration was also slowing down, it was only a matter of time right now.
He forced himself to stand, using his cleaver as a support. He grinned crazily as he stared at Marcus, "A genetic soldier couldn't kill a super soldier despite using his full strength. You truly are weak. Hahaha! "
Marcus's face turned cold and his killing intent erupted. "Since you wish to die so desperately, I shall grant you you wish."
Marcus's body seemed to flicker, becoming translucent for just a moment. Then he vanished.
Levi's sense screamed at him, but it was too late. Marcus reappeared directly in front of him, so close that Levi could see his own reflection in the other youth's eyes.
The sword was already in motion, its point aimed directly at Levi's heart as he pushed into him.
Time seemed to slow to a crawl. Levi tried to bring his cleaver up to block, tried to activate his Thunder Step to dodge, but his bidy was too exhausted to move quickly enough.
"Shlk!"
The sound was sickeningly wet as Marcus's blade punched through Levi's chest, piercing completely through his body. The tip of the sword emerged from his back, dripping with blood that steamed slightly in the cool air.
Levi's eyes widened in shock and pain. He looked down at the blade protruding from his chest, at the blood flowing down from the wound.
His cleaver fell from his fingers, clattering against the ground.
His legs gave out, and he collapsed to his knees, the sword still embedded in his chest. Marcus kept his grip on the weapon's hilt, following Levi down to maintain the impalement.
The transformation that had made Levi a three-meter-tall monster began to recede. His white mane turned back to normal hair, his horns retracted into his skull, and his clawed hands became human again.
Within seconds, he had returned to his normal human form, however, he looked really emancipated. He looked like a mummy with no fat at all. His body was extremely thin as though he hadn't eaten for days as he knelt with the sword through his heart.
Marcus stood over him, he didn't even bother to look at Levi but turned his head to look at Seraphina, who had been watching the entire exchange from a safe distance. "Couldn't even handle someone as weak as this, you're really useless aren't you."
Seraphina had managed to pull herself into a sitting position against a tree, her broken body slowly regenerating. She looked at Levi's impaled body and frowned. " Marcus, you should finish him off completely. Don't underestimate—"
"Please," Marcus interrupted with a dismissive wave of his free hand. "He's done. The sword went straight through his heart. There's no coming back from that, not even those with SSS-rank bloodline could liv—"
He never got to finish that sentence.
Because at that exact moment, Levi's head, which had been hanging limply forward, suddenly snapped up.
His eyes, which had been glazed over with pain and shock, suddenly refocused with crystal clarity. And on his lips was a cold smile.
"Got you," Levi whispered.
Before Marcus could even begin to process those words or react to the sudden wrongness of the situation, Levi moved.
Despite the sword impaled through his chest, driving himself further onto the blade until the hilt pressed against his chest and his face was mere inches from Marcus's shocked expression.
His hands shot up and grabbed Marcus's arm, the one holding the sword. His grip was like iron, fingers digging deep into flesh and muscle with such force that Marcus let out an involuntary cry of pain.
"What are you—" Marcus began, trying to pull away, but Levi's hold was unbreakable.
Then Levi's other hand came up and grabbed Marcus's head, one hand on each side of the youth's skull. His palms pressed against Marcus's temples, and Marcus's eyes went wide with shock as he felt danger surge through his entire body.
"Thunder Domain," Levi said quietly, and then his body exploded with lightning.
"CRACKLE! CRACKLE! CRACKLE!"
But this wasn't like his previous lightning attacks. This was concentrated, focused, channeled directly into Marcus's body.
The energy didn't disperse into the air or create flashy visual effects. Every single volt of power, every single spark of destructive force, was being pumped directly into Marcus at point-blank range.
Marcus's body went rigid, his muscles spasming uncontrollably as electricity coursed through every nerve, every cell, every fiber of his being. His mouth opened in a silent scream, his eyes rolling back in his head as the lightning cooked him from the inside out.
