The eclipse chronicles: I have two SSS+ rank skills from the start

Chapter 47: Mission Failure

"Fuck!" Verlan whispered, staring at the neutralized shots. He frantically slammed the tome of whispers open to a new page. The blue mana around the book intensified, crackling with raw magic.

"Storm! Keep him busy! I need some time to activate the dimensional anchor! We have to escape fast."

"Keep him busy? He just took my shots as if it was nothing!" Storm snarled, passing his potent aura into the shotguns, preparing the next rounds.

The beast took another slow step forward, the corners of his mouth curving into a cruel smile.

"Your desperation amuses me. But the playtime is over, little things."

He raised his metal fan, and the air around it began to distort, coiling like smoke. The blood moon above seemed to dim as if the beast was drawing its very energy.

"Two heroes from the human's ranks shall disappear today." The beast declared, his voice booming with sudden, undeniable power.

He flicked his metal fan forward, releasing an eye shaped sphere of pulsating violet smoke. The sphere didn't move hastily; it slowly approached the space between the two of them.

A chill went down Storm's spine. He felt an unknown fear and dread radiating out from the pulsating sphere. "Velan! Move!"

He rushed towards Velan, hoping to pull him away with him, but before he could move even two steps, the sphere appeared right in front of him. The vertical pupil like structure in it flickering rapidly.

BOOM!

Without a second of delay, the sphere burst, sending waves of violet destructive energy outwards.

Both Storm and Velan were sent tumbling back from the shockwaves, scraping along the ground a few meters.

"V-Velan…you o-okay?" Storm groaned in pain, as he gingerly stood up. But the moment he looked towards Velan, he froze.

Velan laid groaning in pain on the marshy puddle and standing beside him with the metal fan, covered in pulsating violet energy, was the beast.

"Before I end you, I believe you should at least know the one you died to, right?" the beast's cold, raspy voice froze Velan, who was trying to lift himself up.

Fear had gripped his senses. He wasn't able to think rationally, the pressure from the beast was too intense for him to handle.

He slowly turned his head back, and the final hope extinguished right at the moment his eyes fell on the cold, terrorizing eyes of the beast.

"Tell the God you believe in after you die, you were killed by Azazel." Pulling the fan around, above his shoulders, he swung it towards Valen, as the energy arc was about to rush out.

"Final Recoil!"

KA-BOOM! KA-BOOM!

Two shots clad with immense aura, rushed out from the twin barrels of Storm's Dragontooth. The two shots, as they moved, combined together mid-path to form one giant ball of aura, aimed at Azazel's forehead.

Hearing two booming noises, Azazel turned to the side. The shot was so fast that it arrived in front of him in an instant.

He stopped his swing midway, turning it right in front of him, along with the five tails whipped forward for the shield.

But this time, Storm had not fired a basic skill, it was his ultimate, that had disintegrated the obscurity sovereign into nothing.

The impact was heavy. Azazel was blasted off the ground, tumbling along the ground, finally stopping after a number of bounces, reaching almost the same spot he had appeared from.

"Y-You okay Velan?" Storm appeared beside Velan, trying to help him stand up.

"Ah! Stop! Stop!" Velan groaned in pain. Storm was confused at first, but then his eyes fell on Velan's belly.

Blood was flowing rivers from a deep horizontal cut, reaching the internal organs, completely passing through the skin.

"T-That bastard still refused to take his attack b-back." Velan chuckled, a groan escaping him right after from the excruciating pain.

"Don't speak. Press on the cut, you're losing too much blood." Storm's hands were painted red from the blood oozing out as he was pressing on Velan's wound.

"I-It was an impossible m-mission from the start. We s-should have n-never agreed man."

"I d-don't think I'll survive. R-Run. The u-unified races cannot l-lose you." Velan somehow squeezed the words out.

"Shut up! Activate the spell you bastard! The healers will take care of you after we reach the base. I won't fucking let you die." A drop of tear trickled down from the corner of Storm's eyes.

"Such love! Even I'm in tears right now." Azazel was up on his feet. He moved towards the two of them, not a single wound on his body, walking calmly, his fan closed shut, clapping away with a smirk plastered across his face.

Beads of sweat formed on Storm's forehead. His heart rushing to break out of his chest, breaking the ribs.

Even his ultimate didn't put a scratch on Azazel's body. There was no hope left now. Every second he hesitates, would put Valen's life in further peril.

Gulping down the shame and frustration, he decided to do what was best at the moment, to run.

He quickly picked Velan's tome in one hand and with his other, he picked Velan up on his shoulders.

"Keep chanting, activate the spell, I'll keep you safe." Aura gathered on his feet as he dashed away from the Citadel.

"Chase them." Azazel commanded as hundreds of eclipse beasts dashed past him, screeching, chasing the two of them.

"He'll be troublesome in the future." Azazel thought, wiping the blood that had flowed out from the corner of his lips.

The ground shook with the charge of those eclipse beasts. Storm was rushing full speed ahead, while the tome floated beside him, one of the pages glowing, and whispering hums were flowing out of Velan's mouth, who was activating the teleportation spell.

SCREECH!!

The eclipse beasts were gaining distance, when one of them reached close and leaped at them.

CLACK-BOOM!

Storm pulled the trigger behind him, without even turning his head, as the shot blasted the beast into smithereens.

They kept rushing ahead as the beast's kept chasing without rest. Suddenly, Storm stopped abruptly, his feet sliding along the ground a few meters before halting.

They were on the edge of a cliff. Below was a river almost more than a kilometer down, the sound of the flowing current striking clear on their eardrums.

"How long Velan?" Storm beseeched him. The sound of the beast's stomps was getting louder. There was not much time left.

"A-Any second now."

"Alright then. Brace yourself." Storm gritted his teeth. His leg lifted up the ground as without looking back even once, he jumped down the cliff.

Some of the eclipse beasts rushing at them couldn't stop in time as they too fell off.

The crescent blood moon still hung in the sky as the two men were falling down the cliff with the red sky behind and a few dark midnight skinned eclipse beast above them free falling towards the gushing water in the river below.
