My unbelievable life with CATS (Con and Thief system)

Chapter 67: Post funeral cleanup

A few days later, after the funeral, Dylan, still wearing a black suit, brought Ellie, Lena, Maya, and Amy, all still dressed in black dresses, to Lena's grandmother's house to clear out the belongings there. When they arrived and walked inside, the sight of the closed grocery store made Lena relive the memories of working there with her grandmother. She started crying again. Dylan immediately put his arm around her and led her inside and upstairs.

There were no signs of Lena's parents there. All their suitcases and belongings were gone from the house and the rooms; everything was neat and clean. Then they entered Elenor's bedroom and began tidying up Elenor's things. They separated her clothes to donate and put her jewelry away in a box. After that, they also cleaned the bed and the closet.

After they finished, they all sat down on the side of Elenor's bed, which was now neatly made and clean. Everyone was silent, and the atmosphere was quiet, but a moment later, Dylan broke the silence.

"I have something I need to tell you all... especially Lena," Dylan said.

The four of them immediately looked at Dylan. Then Dylan stood up and opened the closet in front of him. "Click," he pressed a button, and "Sshhh," the closet slid open. Lena, Ellie, Maya, and Amy's eyes immediately went wide, seeing a secret room full of weapons. They quickly stood up and approached the doorway, then peeked inside, seeing weapons like a carbine rifle, a sniper rifle, a semi-machine gun, pistols, and several knives on a table, all hanging on racks in the room. After that, they turned to look at Dylan.

"What... what room is this?" Ellie asked.

"I... I never knew about this... Grandma never said anything to me," Lena added.

"All those weapons... are they real? Not toys?" Maya asked.

"Yep... real, not toys," Dylan answered.

"Um... are they legal?" Amy asked.

"I don't know about that," Dylan answered.

"But how did you know, babe? Lena didn't even know," Ellie said.

"I'll tell you later... for now, let's clear out this room before anyone else comes in here besides us," Dylan replied.

They went inside. Dylan began taking the weapons down from the racks, helped by the girls, who still looked confused. Then, when Dylan looked at the table, he saw a wooden box lying there, covered by a cloth that seemed to be used for cleaning the weapons. Dylan lifted the cloth and opened the box. His eyes went wide, seeing a black, eclipse-shaped gem the size of a thumb in the center of the box.

"This is... the Obsidian Onyx... just like the one I took from the museum and embedded in the tiara," Dylan muttered to himself.

[That's right, master. Please secure it.]

Dylan closed the box and stored it in his dimensional item storage. Then he stored all the weapons in the room into his dimensional item storage right in front of Ellie, Lena, Maya, and Amy, who were stunned speechless. After that, Dylan opened his item storage display.

Dylan closed the display again when he saw everything was registered in his storage. Then he turned to look at Ellie, Lena, Maya, and Amy, who were still staring blankly at him.

"What?" Dylan asked.

"You have to explain everything to us," Ellie answered.

"Okay, let's get out of here first," Dylan replied.

They left the secret room and Dylan closed the door again. After that, they left Elenor's bedroom and sat down in the living room. Dylan told Ellie, Lena, Maya, and Amy everything. He explained how he first met Elenor and what Elenor had told him in the lawyer's office about their grandfathers. Ellie, Lena, Maya, and Amy gasped, stunned by Dylan's story.

"Is... is that true? So when my Mom and Dad were here, you came over?" Lena asked.

"Yes, I'm sorry I didn't tell you," Dylan replied.

"It's okay, I'm actually happy you got to meet Grandma before it was too late," Lena replied, holding Dylan's hand.

"Then... Grandma told you about that room and... everything?" Ellie asked.

"That's right, after she realized I was my grandfather's grandson," Dylan answered.

"If you think about it, it's true. When we were little, our grandfathers often brought us to Ellie's house outside the city to play together," Maya recalled, thinking.

"Yeah, I remember clearly," Amy added.

"So that's the story, from when they first met until they eventually became friends... and there's one more thing," Dylan replied.

"What?" Ellie asked.

Dylan paused for a moment. Then he explained everything that happened on graduation day, his theory about Maya's foster father, Amy's family connection, Ellie's mother, and Lena's parents being involved in the attack on the school during the graduation ceremony. But he did not reveal that Lena's father killed her grandmother, in order to protect Lena. He also explained about CROWS to the four of them, saying they were definitely their enemies and were targeting them, only he said that CROWS was an organization, not a system, because he hadn't revealed CATS yet.

After Dylan finished talking, the atmosphere immediately became silent. Dylan could see that all four girls looked tense and stressed. Then Dylan stood up and moved to sit in the middle, right between the four of them.

"You don't need to worry. I will deal with our enemies, and there's no way I would abandon you," Dylan said.

"I know... I believe you, but... you're putting yourself in danger, aren't you?" Ellie said.

"Yeah, that's right. Please don't be reckless, we don't know how big that organization is," Maya added.

"Don't make us worry, okay? I know you're Phantom Cat and can do anything, but you're only one person," Lena added.

"What I want to say is the same as the others," Amy said simply.

"Relax, I'm still figuring out exactly what kind of organization it is," Dylan replied.

Then everyone fell silent again. A moment later, Maya stood up and sat next to Dylan, nudging Amy over. She immediately hugged Dylan's arm.

"Babe, can I ask you to come with me to Mr. Robert's office tomorrow?" Maya asked.

"Sure, what for?" Dylan asked.

Maya turned to look at Ellie, Lena, and Amy, who nodded at her. Then she looked at Dylan seriously.

"I want you to marry me officially. No party needed, let's just go straight to the courthouse. The goal is to cash out my grandfather's inheritance. You understand what I mean, right? Since I've told you everything," Maya asked.

"Huh," Dylan flinched in surprise. He turned to look at Ellie, Lena, and Amy, who seemed to agree with what Maya was saying. Dylan couldn't answer because the words he wanted to say seemed stuck in his throat. Finally, Dylan just nodded as his answer. Maya, seeing this, immediately smiled widely and hugged Dylan.
