Back to the morning nearing noon, when Dylan and Ellie arrived at Robert's law office. Just as they went upstairs, as Dylan reached for the doorknob, suddenly "click," the door opened. Dylan and Ellie were surprised to see Elenor leaving the office, escorted by Robert. Elenor immediately turned and saw Dylan, pointing at him. Of course, Dylan was also shocked to see Elenor in front of him.
"Oh... Dylan? You're here too?" Elenor asked.
"Yes, Grandma. I brought Ellie. She needs to talk to Mr. Robert," Dylan answered.
"Hello, Grandma, how are you?" Ellie added, looking a little confused because she saw Dylan knew Elenor.
"Oh hello, Ellie. Grandma's fine. How are you?" Elenor asked, walking up to Ellie and hugging her.
"I'm fine, Grandma. What brings you here?" Ellie asked.
"Some business," [turning to look at Dylan] "May I speak with you?" Elenor asked, smiling.
"Oh, okay, Grandma," Dylan replied.
"Okay, Ellie, if you want to speak with me, let's go inside," Robert chimed in.
"Alright, sir [looking at Dylan] I'll go in first. You can follow," Ellie replied.
"Got it, just a minute," Dylan replied, leading Elenor away.
Dylan led Elenor into an empty interview room they were allowed to use. After they were both seated, the room fell silent because Elenor wasn't speaking, and Dylan was waiting for her. A few moments later,
"I came here because I was updating my will. I've now crossed Mark out of my heirs. I'm only leaving him $1 so he can't sue for me not giving him anything and challenge Lena later on. Everything has been given to Lena, so it's safe now," Elenor said, breaking the silence.
"Hmm... I see, Grandma. I understand," Dylan replied.
"Please take care of Lena, especially recently. That man is starting to move again, and Grandpa isn't here anymore. Besides that, you also have to look after Ellie, Amy, and Maya. Lena told me everything about all of them, including herself, being pregnant with your children," Elenor said, smiling but looking sad.
Dylan's face instantly went pale. He stared at Elenor, who was looking at him with a kind, caring smile.
"Y-you already know, Grandma?" Dylan asked.
"Of course I know. They've been planning it for a long time. When they were little, they were just normal and didn't think about anything like that, but Lena once told me: when she was walking my dog, Pickle, in the park, she was bothered by that loan shark's men, and you helped her and walked her almost home. After that, she talked about you every day and eventually found out you were the Dylan she knew from childhood," Elenor answered.
"Ah, that's right, I remember that incident too," Dylan replied.
"The four of them came to me. Besides Lena, they all told me how much they loved you and asked my permission to go through with their plan. At first, I thought they were too reckless, but after I considered it and saw their grandfathers were either sick or already passed away, plus I'm very old myself, so I allowed them because they are clearly safer with you," Elenor replied.
"Safer? What do you mean, Grandma?" Dylan asked, curious.
Elenor was silent for a moment, looking at her hands on the table. The atmosphere became quiet again. Elenor seemed to be debating with herself, then she looked at Dylan, and her face became serious.
"I'm going to tell you who your grandfather, me, and all your girls' grandfathers really are," Elenor said.
Elenor began to tell her story, and Dylan listened without saying a word. It all started with Dylan's grandfather, named Davis James or Bruno Morgan. He was also known as the urban legend, Phantom Cat. Lena's grandfather, named Patrick, was a hitman sent by a mafia family to kill Dylan's grandfather because Dylan's grandfather had taken one of their wives, who then became one of his own wives.
But when Patrick found out what was really happening, he turned against the mafia family and released Dylan's grandfather. In the end, Patrick married the girl Davis had kidnapped, because Davis never intended to marry her but only to help her, and they became a family.
"W-wait, that girl... is that you, Grandma?" Dylan asked.
Elenor didn't answer, but she smiled and nodded in reply. After that, the mafia family investigated the whereabouts of Patrick and Elenor by hiring Ellie's grandfather, who also spent his life pursuing Phantom Cat until he became a private detective and left the police force. Because of his skill, he managed to track Patrick and Elenor, but he was stopped by Davis and told what was truly going on.
Finally, Ellie's grandfather, named Walter, backed out of the case he was handling. After learning who Phantom Cat really was and what he was doing, he started a friendship with Patrick and Davis. Then they heard news that the mafia family had been destroyed by a traitor within who eventually became the head of the family. His name was Howard; he was Amy's grandfather. He then investigated what happened and invited Patrick, Davis, and finally Walter to meet with him.
It turned out that Howard was a state spy assigned to destroy that powerful mafia family from the inside and then become the mafia boss. Howard also had a right-hand man from the mafia family, the person who first exposed the mafia family's crimes to the state agency. His name was Gerald, a gang leader and martial arts athlete; he was Maya's grandfather. After that, they discussed how to protect the city because of a great danger previously initiated by the former head of the mafia family in their city.
A world-class organization called CROWS was controlling the world from behind the scenes. They hid behind the government and controlled the global economy. They tasked the mafia family head with taking over the city and the entire state, but Howard and Gerald thwarted it with the unknown assistance of Davis, Patrick, and Walter. That's why Howard and Gerald contacted Patrick, Walter, and finally Davis because they needed help securing their city.
"I see," Dylan muttered after hearing Elenor's story.
"That's right, and the problem is, the deposed head of the mafia family is still alive and still connected to CROWS. He knows that Davis is dead because Davis was the only one who could stop him. That's why I agreed to Lena, Ellie, Amy, and Maya's plan to trap you, because they are much safer with you," Elenor replied.
"He-he's still alive? CROWS?" Dylan asked.
[I once told you we have an enemy, and he's still around... that's CROWS.]
"That organization?" Dylan asked in his head.
[CROWS isn't an organization, but a system that controls the world. He lost to me and to your grandfather back then, but he hasn't been destroyed and is still out there.]
Dylan's body immediately shivered because he never imagined something like this was lurking behind the world he had always considered normal.
"He's still out there. That's why I'm asking for your help, Dylan. I'm speaking for Amy's grandfather, Lena's grandfather, Maya's grandfather, and Ellie's grandfather. Please protect all four of them and don't abandon them, because they all love you, and they are my granddaughters, just as you are also my grandson," Elenor said, smiling and holding Dylan's hand on the table.
"Okay, Grandma, I understand," Dylan replied. "I never thought I'd get involved in something like this... I need to be more alert and protect my family better," Dylan muttered in his head.
[Don't worry, sir. When I fully awaken, CROWS will be no match for me.]
"Awaken? What do you mean?" Dylan asked in his head.
[Your grandfather and I managed to defeat CROWS because I awoke back then. Someday I'll tell you my secret mission to achieve that.]
"Huh... why not just tell me now?" Dylan asked.
[It's not time yet, sir.]
"Grr... always keeping secrets," Dylan replied.
