SSS Ranked Awakening: Starting With My Limitless Cosmic Shadow System

Chapter 0063: Ancient Art

The moment Modret summoned the fairy, the old man's gaze briefly lingered on her, as though he could see her directly.

But instantly, his expression turned blank, and he seemed to be staring into the endless abyss as though he couldn't see anything, just like Axel.

Modret didn't notice anything, as his attention was focused entirely on the fairy.

Hearing his question, she flew toward the shimmering liquid as if inspecting it.

Her eyes glowed brilliantly for a brief moment before she turned to the old man, emotion flickering in her gaze.

{That's simply impossible.}

Modret's face darkened, 'impossible? It can't awaken my bloodline?'

The fairy shook her head vehemently.

{No, not that. It's impossible for someone to still know how to create something like this.}

{But the old man is right. It can awaken your bloodline.}

Modret raised a brow in surprise.

Was the old man being truthful all this while?

He couldn't help but glance briefly at the old man, his eyes filled with deep meaning.

Seeing that Modret had been silent for a while, Axel reached out toward the pot.

'Young master, I will confirm if the liquid contains poison or not…' Axel's voice was filled with caution.

Without hesitation, he gulped down the liquid before Modret, the old man, or the fairy could react.

The moment Axel drank it, a burning sensation crawled up through his body.

His mind seemed to fracture into countless fragments, and the next moment, his body began to crack apart.

He turned to Modret and gently shook his head.

Then his body exploded into countless fragments, rapidly dissolving into shadows…

Modret's eyes widened in horror and shock at what had just happened.

He snapped his gaze toward the old man, but it seemed that at this moment, the man's sanity had completely faded.

The old man walked up to a rock and sat down, muttering incoherent words.

Modret's frown deepened as lightning began crackling around him.

He looked poised to strike the old man the next moment.

Thankfully, the fairy's voice echoed in his mind.

{Calm down, it's not the old man's fault.}

{This is a unique potion that resonates with one's bloodline and awakens it. Axel didn't possess a bloodline, so there was nothing to awaken in the first place. It's only natural the potion reacted negatively and cost him his life.}

{Besides, you can just head out and gather some shadow fragments to resurrect him. Isn't he your shadow?}

Modret's eyes lit up, and the lightning crackling around him receded.

'Damn, what was I trying to do? Besides, I still need the old man's help to leave this place…'

The fairy glanced around, {You should hurry and leave this place. I can sense a few terrifying presences nearby that can one-shot you.}

'One shot?' Modret was speechless.

No one knew his abilities better than the fairy. If she said he could be one-shotted, then he definitely could.

A chill crawled up his spine as he glanced around.

The distant void now seemed unnervingly eerie, and for a brief instant, it felt as though something was staring at him from within it, not too far away.

Frowning, he glanced once at the fairy, then at the old man, and jumped into the abyss.

A shadow puppet string connected him to the floating rock as he descended.

This time, Modret was extremely cautious, a faint paranoia creeping over him—like something, or someone, was watching his every move.

He spotted a celestial a few feet away and, without hesitation, increased his speed drastically, drifting toward it.

Bang!

Lightning wrapped in black fire roared through the air and struck the celestial.

Under the darkness of the abyss, the lightning cloaked in black flames was nearly invisible. The celestial didn't even notice the attack until the moment it died, reduced completely to ashes.

[Gained 300 shadow fragments.]

Since the celestials here were at the early Galaxy Realm, it was understandable why they yielded so many fragments.

'If it were before, it'd probably be a few thousand…' Modret's lips twitched in annoyance at the thought.

He turned his gaze to the distance, eyes scanning the surroundings.

Soon, he spotted another celestial.

This one resembled a bull entirely, though a wriggling gash ran across its head.

It was clear the creature had just battled another celestial, its torn flesh was still rapidly regenerating.

Modret didn't hesitate. He launched an attack that swiftly sliced off the celestial's head before it could react.

[Gained 300 shadow fragments.]

A few feet away, he noticed another celestial of similar stature, and beside it, a few smaller ones.

Modret raised his right palm.

Lightning crackled around it, forming a spinning ring.

He hurled it forward, sparks dancing through the darkness, as it cleaved through the celestials.

Modret smiled, then glanced at the system's notification hovering before him.

[Gained 1200 shadow fragments.]

After briefly checking the notification, Modret scanned the area once more.

He reached toward the celestial at the Galaxy Realm he had purposely spared and dragged it forward before it could fall into the endless abyss.

Along the way back to the floating rock, he severely injured another celestial of similar strength and brought it along as well.

Standing atop the floating rock was the old man, and flying around him was the fairy, her blue light sprinkling softly and illuminating the surroundings.

She looked as though she was scrutinizing the old man's face, searching for flaws in his expression and mannerisms.

Finally, the old man tore his gaze away from the abyss, staring at Modret, who was swiftly approaching. Behind him was someone the old man had not expected to see—

Axel!

His face was filled with confusion, how was he still alive???

The old man wanted to ask but, after a moment of deliberation, decided to keep the question to himself.

It seemed that, just like Modret, Axel had his own secrets as well.

The old man waited for the duo to arrive.

Modret landed with a loud thud, and Axel followed.

His expression was slightly pale, with a brief confusion flickering in his eyes.

Modret tossed the two celestials toward the old man.

'Old man, please prepare the potion once again…'

The old man glanced at the bodies, then nodded, turning toward his equipment and quickly getting to work.

Meanwhile, Modret turned to Axel, 'How do you feel?'

Axel was silent, as though pondering his answer.

'I feel… different. It's as if something inside me is awakening. After taking that potion again, I should completely… awaken it!'

'You want to take that potion again?' Modret raised his brow in surprise.

The pain he'd seen Axel go through was excruciating, even he wouldn't dare endure that again.

'Yes,' Axel nodded firmly.
