"Two hundred coins!" Commander Casper called again with a glare in Karathra's direction.
"Two hundred and one!" Karathra shouted back.
Commander Casper's glare intensified, but before he could say anything else, one of the other masters beside him pulled him back and stopped him.
Silence then returned to the tent.
Marchant Birdy was all smiles. "Anyone? Anyone? Two hundred and one coins, going? Going? Anyone?"
Nobody said anything, and now Karathra was grimacing as she realized what had just happened. She winced when she looked at Brakthar, but there was nothing she could say, so she gave him a pleading look.
Brakthar sighed. There was nothing he could do as well. The policies surrounding auctions meant once a person started bidding, they must buy if it fell on them.
"Congratulations, female barbarian! You just got yourself the finest blacksmith with just two hundred and one coins! You'll be completing the deal at the end of the auction!"
Brakthar facepalmed and grumbled. "This is just so good."
Karathra directed her anger toward the Winged people, and all the people in that line of sight flinched as if they'd been hit by something as they felt the bloodlust.
"This is a set of slaves. They're the Habby race, and they're known for cleaning. We have four males and two females. Lucky for anyone that gets them, they were previously trained. The starting bid is from one hundred gold coins!"
This time he got lots of reactions as people raised their hands to get their hands on the slaves. The room quickly became filled with uproar over whose numbers were being called, but at the end, it was the Xyrrh that bought them at five thousand and seven coins.
"This slave is for the men... the bid starts from seven thousand! She's specially trained, and I can tell you this, she's really good at what she does!"
The bid was won by the Winged people.
"Now, this is a set of thirty villagers. They might look weak, but they know how to farm the land. What? Alright, I'll sell them in groups of five. It starts from fifty coins!"
The villagers were promptly snatched by the normal people of the Revolutionary base.
More and more slaves were brought out, some incredibly expensive and some very cheap. Apart from the blacksmith, the Barbarian banner did not buy a single one again.
But the other banners did not hold back as they spent money on whatever caught their fancy. The highest buyer was the Xyrrh, followed by the Winged people. The Kobolds also bought, but they seemed focused on a certain type of slave.
After some back and forth, Marchant Birdy finally brought out the day's special.
It was brought forward in a cage and covered by a black cloth that was removed when it reached the stage. The enchanter appeared to be human, with noble and arrogant eyes, but a collar band was wrapped around his neck.
The slave glared at everyone around.
"This... is the enchanter!" Marchant Birdy called with glee.
Everyone sat up to watch the enchanter. All the attention in the room instantly focused on him, and the temperature subtly rose as the masters let their auras free.
Karathra hissed at Brakthar. "I thought you said the other banners won't be interested!"
"I don't know what's happening either! But I think they're all trying to stop the others from having the enchanter. Don't you get it? They might all have one, but at the same time, they don't want the others to add to their own!"
Brakthar instantly began to have a sinking feeling. They might actually fail in their objective, because the way the masters' eyes were shining... they all wanted it!
Karathra hesitated, then sighed and touched her axe. "You should take care of it, then. I'll only go in if things turn physical."
Marchant Birdy smiled. "The bidding money... is one coin!"
Everyone was stunned, and the normal people, even though they had no need for it, knew the importance and how much the enchanter would be worth in reselling. They began to shout prices as well.
"Five coins!"
"Seven!"
"Twenty!"
Suddenly, a voice cut through. "Ten thousand coins!"
The voice belonged to one of the Kobolds, and it sounded deeply irritated. The room quieted immediately, and the normal people understood that playtime for them was over.
Now, it was time for the banners.
Commander Casper seemed calmer now. "Twenty thousand."
The Kobolds called back. "Forty thousand."
"Seventy thousand."
"Ninety thousand!"
Casper scowled, but before he could say anything, the Xyrrh placed their bid. "Five hundred thousand!"
Karathra twitched when she heard that.
Eh? What?
This much money was the starting point for the sale of cursed monsters. The Revolutionary base even bought it for less than the outside, but either way, it was a lot of money!
Commander Casper's face darkened. "One million!"
Karathra looked toward Brakthar and raised her brows. "Are we not going to join?"
Brakthar grimaced as if he were in pain as he said, "One million two hundred thousand!"
It was the first time the barbarians had bid, and everyone turned to them in surprise, not expecting them to take part in such a high-end purchase—or to call such a high price.
"One million five hundred!" The Winged people.
"Two million!" The Xyrrh.
"Two million seven hundred!" The Kobolds.
"Three million five hundred!" The Barbarians.
Wait... what? The Barbarians? Three million?
Marchant Birdy rubbed his hands together. "Good, good! Three million five hundred, one! Three million five hundred, two! It's go..."
"Four million!"
"Five million!"
"Six million!"
"Seven million!"
"Ten million!"
Yet again, it was Galthor that raised the price, and Karathra couldn't help but chuckle at the surprised looks directed their way. Why were they surprised, though? The Barbarians had been doing nothing but hunting in the past months—hunting cursed monsters!
They might not be rich, but they did have money in their own way.
And it seemed the auction was about to test just how much money they had.
