The Rise Of The No. 1 Hunter

Chapter 89: NIGHT FELL

He turned and began walking away.

Hinata gasped, blood bubbling from his mouth. "You bastard! Come back here! What are you? Who are you?!" His voice echoed through the ruined chamber. "I'll tell everyone what I saw! You're not human!"

Raito didn't stop. A small, dark smile touched his lips. "No one will hear it," he muttered. "Jiro will take care of everything."

Outside, chaos erupted.

Jiro's strike team had arrived. A swarm of armored hunters stormed the massive casino. Alarms blared. Civilians ran for cover. Explosions rippled through the underground levels as squads cleared the building.

Raito opened a hidden door. Kira was there, eyes wide.

"Raito! You're alive?!" she gasped. "I tried everything, we're trapped! The exit's sealed!"

Raito glanced up. "Not anymore."

He clenched his fist. BOOM! The ceiling split open, sending a metal panel flying skyward. Dust and light poured in.

Far above, the moon burned through the smoke.

Jiro's voice echoed through the comms outside:

[All squads, move in. Capture every surviving target.]

Raito looked toward the undead carrying Niu. "Take him to safety. Make sure the hunters find him." The undead bowed before vanishing into mist.

Kira turned to him, still catching her breath. "What's going on? What are you wearing? And when did you even have time to change?"

Raito didn't answer. "We need to leave. Now."

"If we go through the front, we'll be seen," Kira said, peeking through the cracks. "News crews are already outside reporting everything."

Raito faced her. "Then hold on to me."

Kira blinked. "W what?!"

"Do it," he said calmly.

Before she could protest, Raito wrapped his arms around her and whispered, "Flight System, activate."

The Cursed Attire flared, runes igniting across his back. A surge of dark mana erupted beneath his feet, and in an instant, they shot into the sky.

The hunters below felt the shockwave and froze.

"What was that?!" one shouted, shielding his face from the wind.

Far above, Raito and Kira soared through the night. The moon hung large and bright, bathing the clouds in silver light. Kira opened her eyes slowly, and gasped.

"Wow… this is beautiful…" she whispered, her voice trembling between awe and fear.

Raito said nothing. The purple energy surrounding them shimmered like ghost fire, carrying them higher, far away from the chaos below.

As they hovered high above the city, suspended in the night sky, the wind brushed past them like a whisper. Below, the shattered casino and scattered hunters looked no bigger than ants.

Raito stopped mid air, holding Kira securely as their eyes met beneath the pale glow of the moon.

Kira's heartbeat raced. She hesitated for a moment before speaking.

"Please… tell me. Who are you truly?"

Raito looked ahead, his expression unreadable. "I'm no one special," he said quietly. "Just a guy everyone laughs at."

A small, self mocking smile curved his lips.

Kira continued softly, her voice carried by the wind.

"Sorry. When we first met, I didn't even introduce myself properly."

Raito turned slightly toward her, eyes calm beneath the faint aura of his cursed attire.

"I'm Fujisaka Kira," she said, smiling faintly despite the exhaustion in her voice.

Raito nodded once. "Alright. Hold on tight we're going down."

Before she could reply, Raito tilted forward, and the air split apart around them as he plunged downward.

The wind roared past, Kira's scream echoing through the sky.

"Hey reduce your voice," Raito said, half grinning as they descended at breakneck speed.

Just before hitting the ground, his cursed attire pulsed with dark energy, slowing their fall. They landed softly, a faint shockwave rippling through the dirt.

Kira stumbled forward, her hand over her chest as she tried to catch her breath.

"Thank you… I really appreciate it. If not for you, I'd be dead by now. I didn't even get a single scratch."

She looked up at him with wide eyes. "You fought an S rank… and won. You should do another rank assessment. There's no way you're still ranked C."

Raito exhaled quietly, glancing toward the distant mansion. "We safe now. Jiro's mansion is just over there. I'll head out."

He turned to leave.

"Wait," Kira called out.

He stopped, turning back slightly. "Is there a problem?"

She hesitated, her hand pressed against her chest again. "Nothing," she said with a faint smile.

Raito nodded, slipped his hands into his pockets, and walked off into the moonlight.

Kira stood there, watching him walk away under the moonlight.

His shadow stretched long across the street, fading into the dark.

What was I about to tell him just now? she thought, her chest tightening.

For some reason… I wanted to stay with him longer. I feel safe around him.

She clenched her fists.

But this guy… he's something else. He could fly. He fought close range with that cursed blade like it was part of his body. He even summoned an undead, no, an undead dragon.

The memory sent a chill down her spine. The sight of that skeletal beast crushing monsters like insects was burned into her mind.

No one has ever summoned something like that before. Not in any rank record, not even among the top guilds…

Kira smiled faintly, determination flickering in her eyes.

Wow… there really are people like him out there. Powerful people. But I'm not going to fall behind. I'll grow stronger. I'll catch up to him… someday.

She turned toward the distant city lights, her mind still lingering on his name.

"Raito…" she whispered softly.

Meanwhile, Raito walked alone through the quiet streets, the sound of his boots echoing faintly. He dismissed the cursed attire, its dark energy dissolving into faint wisps of purple smoke. His clothes returned to normal, the heavy aura fading away.

"Ah… today was way too stressful," he muttered, rolling his shoulders. "And that lady, she saw too much."

He sighed, running a hand through his hair.

"She knows about my flight skill, the undead, dragon. But I'm sure she won't tell anyone."
