Chapter 62 – Attack at Night

Crowne finished eating. Quickly, he stood up and walked toward the door. He wanted to go to the place where the explosion sound had come from. When Crowne held the doorknob, he stopped for five seconds. No one tried to stop him. He turned toward the old man sitting on the chair. The old man only shrugged his shoulders.

"Go! I already told you I won't stop you anymore," said the old man.

Crowne opened the door and immediately left. He ran as fast as he could. After only a few meters, he saw many monsters emerging from the direction of the sea. Their numbers were enormous. On the shore, several soldiers were fighting against those monsters. They tried to block them from entering the city.

Crowne frowned when he saw that. "Why are they doing this?"

He was sure there was a reason this was happening, but he didn't know what it was. There was no clue at all. Crowne shrugged his shoulders and walked toward the beach. However, when he was about to help, suddenly he was stopped by a soldier.

Crowne turned to him. "Is something wrong?" he asked.

The soldier smiled. "It's me!" he said, pointing to himself. "We met at the gate."

Crowne stared at the soldier for quite a while. He looked at him from head to toe twice but didn't remember him at all. When he was at the city gate, he was only focused on killing the undead ogre. He didn't care about anything else there.

"I guess I forgot," said Crowne.

The soldier didn't look disappointed at all. "That's fine. You don't have to remember me, but I remember you." He scratched his head a little shyly. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm going to help you," replied Crowne.

The soldier nodded enthusiastically. "Ah, of course. If you help us, we're really grateful."

The two talked briefly, and a few moments later Crowne joined the soldiers of Doomsty City to fight the monsters. When Crowne started participating, the battle became easier. The monsters were defeated more easily. The soldiers' task became lighter. They thanked Crowne for his help.

But that was not the end, because the monsters didn't stop coming from the sea. One was killed, and several more appeared. Their number seemed endless. Even after an hour passed, the monsters still kept coming.

Crowne, who at first thought it was easy, started to feel annoyed because there seemed to be no end to it. He even stepped back and clicked his tongue in frustration. Crowne took out a potion and drank it to restore his strength.

"Damn it. This is annoying," he grumbled.

"Sir stranger, they will never stop. No matter how many you kill, their number will keep increasing. They will keep coming until the morning sun rises," said the soldier.

Crowne turned to him. "So we have to fight here forever?"

"Only until morning comes."

That was not what Crowne meant, but he didn't explain further. He looked toward the sea. Some monsters that looked like shrimps appeared, but their size was as big as adult humans. The monsters instantly disappeared and reappeared in front of one of the soldiers, striking quickly. However, the attack was blocked successfully.

"Looks like I dragged myself into another troublesome mess," Crowne sighed.

**

The battle continued. Several soldiers were killed, but the monster army still hadn't stopped attacking. It had already been six hours since Crowne started fighting. He was exhausted, but he kept going. His entire body felt heavy from fatigue. Crowne jumped back and clicked his tongue again.

"This is troublesome," he muttered.

[Summoning Activated!]

A bright light and a magic circle appeared under Crowne's feet. A second later, something shocking happened. The soldiers there were stunned as dozens of beasts appeared around Crowne. Not just one kind, but many types with different sizes.

The beasts bowed to Crowne. At the same time, Crowne raised his right hand and pointed toward the monsters coming at him.

"Kill them!" he commanded.

A second later, the beasts he had tamed started moving. They began fighting the sea monsters. The beasts' attacks gradually pushed the enemy back. The number of monsters being killed became greater than the ones emerging from the sea.

The soldiers at the shore backed away. They didn't want to disturb the battle that was happening. They all swallowed hard, astonished by what they saw. Their gazes now focused entirely on Crowne and his beasts. They began wondering who the young man helping them really was.

Some of them had seen Crowne before at the city gate, but most didn't recognize him at all.

"Thank you, sir stranger. We're truly helped by your aid," said one of the soldiers.

Crowne only glanced briefly. He turned his eyes back to his beasts. The Sirens began to open their mouths. Crowne raised his hand.

"Cover your ears!" he shouted.

Some soldiers immediately covered their ears after hearing Crowne's warning, but some didn't understand why they needed to do it.

A second later, a song echoed. The voice of the Sirens. A voice so beautiful. Too beautiful. But behind that beauty, there was horror. The soldiers who didn't cover their ears were trapped in the Sirens' illusion.

The Sirens that belonged to Crowne began singing together. Their voices blended like a choir from another world. Every note carried a strange wave of energy.

Piercing!

Dozens of sea monsters that tried to climb onto land suddenly stabbed their own bodies. They broke their own necks. They all committed suicide. But not only them, a few soldiers who didn't close their ears did the same.

The soldiers who had already covered their ears were shocked by what happened. Every gaze turned to Crowne.

"I already warned you. It's not my fault if you got yourselves killed," said Crowne casually.

He watched the monsters kill themselves one by one. Their numbers decreased rapidly. Crowne narrowed his eyes. He could feel stronger Mana moving toward him. Something was trying to rise from beneath the sea.

"Help me!" said Crowne.

A beast jumped up and landed on Crowne's shoulder. It was a Soldier Rabbit, a rabbit holding a spear in its right hand.

"Come on!" said Crowne.
