Apocalypse: Inhuman Ascension

Chapter 58: Phase Two

Three months passed by in a flash, and large changes had occured to the whole world. Dungeon monsters filled the streets, moving with the same hunger as zombies and mutated beasts. Several factions rose and several others fell, overwhelmed by the non-human creatures populating the world.

Among the factions that rose was the Red Wings faction based in Night Veil City, United States.

The size of the faction had nearly tripled, occupying more than thirty percent of the city. The red defense walls had been expanded to cover the entirety of the territory, glistening brightly in daylight.

The population had also swelled. After several rescue missions in the city and neighboring ones, the population had reached up to a thousand humans.

The evolved army had developed too, having over a hundred first level evolved, and over forty second level evolved. As for third level evolved, there were ten of them—nicknamed the Red Generals.

Inside a familiar conference room, Leon was having a meeting with the said generals.

"Reporting. The fifteen dungeons in the city have been regulated. Dungeon Monsters appearance is now under our control."

Ye Zemin (Little Tiger) said, his young face filled with seriousness. After spending half a year in the apocalypse, his childish mind had matured.

Receiving a nod from Leon, he took that as a cue to sit. His father was next.

"Reporting. We've secured exactly thirty-seven mutated beasts, and tamed them for battle uses. Their training is currently ongoing."

Ye Ming reported, mirroring his son's seriousness.

Leon nodded again, showing his acknowledgement. The report went on from each member to the other. Professor Oliver reported about the growing population and their decision to begin farming as a means to prevent famine. In that aspect, he had Elena Holmes to support him. Anna reported the recruitment and ongoing training of newly evolved humans into the Red Wings Army.

Finally, Williams Colt reported about the situation of the other factions in neighboring cities and the notable zombie hordes or mutated beasts hordes.

This particular report caught Leon's attention.

"What factions are currently rising? And I want to know the hordes too—numbers, leaders and their levels."

Williams nodded, opening a file.

"In Windsor, the most notable faction is the Revolutionaries Evolved Camp. They have control over half of the city already. Their boss—Martin Dwayne, is a Third-Level Evolved. Their army has about seventy evolved, though their evolution remains unknown. The other half of the city is dominated by a zombie horde rumored to have two Zombie Kings."

He paused, letting the information digest, then continued.

"As for Cleveland, it's dominated by two evolved factions—Bull Shelter and Saber Fangs Shelter. Currently, both shelters are at odds. Though they are currently on a truce because of a rumor."

Seeing that he paused, Anna tilted her head.

"What rumor?"

Williams sighed, then spoke grimly.

"There's a rumor that a Fourth-Level Mutated Beast has appeared in Pittsburgh. Credibility is currently at the minimum as no faction has been able to verify."

Leon nodded, though his eyes remained closed. Even though others might not be sure, he was sure of it. In his past life, he would always remember the collosal mutated beast which had caused havoc across several cities in the first year of the apocalypse.

'So it has appeared… Godzilla.'

That was the name given to the beast after people saw its appearance. It was just like a Godzilla depicted in movies. Only, it wasn't that big, but still dwarfed several tall buildings.

"Continue."

He said, still resting his chin on interlocked fingers.

"As for Detroit, it is currently being managed by several small factions who have allied themselves. No Three-Star evolved."

After the report, Williams sat back in his seat, leaving the hall silent. They all looked towards Leon, waiting for him to speak.

"Pittsburgh, huh?"

Finally, the young man opened his eyes. A sharp glint flashed within them, making the group shudder.

"What is your take on this rumor?" He asked, wanting to hear their opinion.

Professor Oliver spoke first. "We can't just dismiss it as a rumor."

He folded his arms, reclining in the chair.

"Second-Level creatures are already quite common. Third-Level are still the peak, but are appearing frequently. It's about time a Fourth-Level appeared."

The others nodded, understanding his reasoning. Still, Simone frowned.

"If that's true, it should have been confirmed by now. I don't believe no one has encountered it, right?"

The man believed that information about this monster should have been revealed.

Leon remained silent, allowing them to talk.

'No news is out… because there are no survivors.'

He stopped their argument with a wave of his hand.

"Well, that's not for you to worry about now. Instead, you should be preparing the others for unexpected surprises."

The others nodded. Even if the creature really existed, only power could stop it.

"Has anyone heard anything about the Purple Crucible yet?"

Hearing the question they were familiar to, the evolved humans sighed. They understood Leon's desperation for these crucibles. The Reward Crucibles they had amassed were only silver color and we're capped at the Third-Level. One couldn't get a Fourth-Level item from them.

And this was where Purple Reward Crucibles were useful. They only produced items from the Fourth-Level to the Sixth-Level.

Ye Zemin hesitated a bit, then spoke.

"Although it isn't credible, I heard a few of our evolved members talking about seeing a weird machine. According to them, it was surrounded by several second-level zombies so they couldn't approach."

"Several Second Level Zombies?" Leon pressed his lips into a thin line, then smiled. "Ask them for the location. I'll check it out by myself."

"Eh? Really? We're not even sure if it's the one. It might just be a normal silver crucible."

Ye Zemin was surprised by Leon's reaction, and hurriedly voiced his thoughts. Even he himself hadn't believed the mutterings of those evolved humans.

"Don't worry. It doesn't matter if it's useless. I'm just curious."

Leon shrugged, maintaining his stance.

Clapping, he decided to share his own report quickly. While the others had been working, he hadn't been slacking off either.

"I've stocked the armory and it's now open for everyone. Please pass the information to your team members that they're only allowed to take one weapon and an armor corresponding to their levels."

While the other evolved had been busy clearing dungeons, he had holed himself up in the tower and entered a forging-spree. In three months, he had produced up to fifteen Three-Star armaments, fifty Two-Star armaments, and almost two-hundred One-Star armaments.

This was to equip the Red Wings Army with good and adequate weapons.

"Continue to engage the dungeons and report every plant material you find to Elena. As for the metal ores, you can keep them in the storage room."

After three months of endless forging, he had used up all of his forging materials and needed to replenish them.

With no other topics to discuss, the meeting ended. Leon was the first to leave, accompanied by Rebecca and Aisha. Those two were equivalent to his personal disciples.

As for where he was going, that was already determined. Elena had recently contacted him that she had succeeded in creating something new.

'Oh, what has that woman invented this time…?'

He hoped to be surprised.
