Shadow Weaver: Sole Heir Of The Night

Chapter 64: Projects

The next morning, Enzo and Raven wore their standard-issue Dual Moon uniforms.

It was a black long-sleeved uniform with a slanted button system. It had steel plating on its sides and white patches on the collars. On their backs was a diagram of two moons merged together, one crescent-shaped and the other shaped like a full moon.

This was the insignia of the institute.

"Good luck, brother, we're rooting for you." As Enzo and Raven stepped out of the cottage and approached Mr. White, Enzo's family followed suit and waved.

At some point, they had unanimously agreed, without even speaking, that Enzo would be the backbone of the family. He was strong, and with him, they would jointly face the problems in front.

Hearing their words of encouragement, Enzo could only wave as he got on top of the bike before speeding off into the distance.

"Give me 30 minutes, I'm still confirming the inputted data. People are still coming in," a young lady with purple hair spoke inside the main hall of the institute.

The institute had two branches in the immediate area. The one to the left was the New Moon and the Crescent Moon branches. But on the first day of the institute's year, they typically came to the main branch for the induction ceremony.

Things had to be perfect at this point.

"Be fast, Violet, you know how important this year is…" another staff member spoke, a white crescent moon on his forehead.

He watched as a myriad of students trooped in, each quickly so. But to him, all of them were just rough diamonds that needed to be cut properly.

Thirty minutes later, around when the sun was stabilizing in the sky, the courtyard of the main spire was soon crowded with students numbering over a hundred.

This, of course, included the second years and the newly admitted first years.

"Hello… Hellooo." A young man appeared on a stage placed in front of the spire and spoke into a microphone, calling for the attention of those below.

Seeing their attention drawn, he smiled and walked off to the side, allowing the Grand Regent to climb up.

"Welcome to your first day of the academic year and induction into the institute… Young weavers, your future is right in front of you. The opportunity to work hard is in front of you. Here, your potential will be fully explored…"

The Grand Regent descended into a long speech of duty and opportunity. He spoke about their potential for greatness and how to explore it—typical head-of-the-institute sayings.

However, at the very back, Enzo was more concerned about the giant screen towering in front of the spire. He wasn't the only one either.

What appeared there in a few seconds would determine whether the next few months would be a living hell or a walk in the park.

Mr. White had explained to him that the institute was not purely an academy. They taught their members a myriad of subjects and skills, even having field trips, but these things didn't contribute to their grades every year.

"And so I announce the year under the Dual Moon open!!" The Grand Regent waved his hand grandiosely as the screen behind him went live.

[Master the Heaven Skill: World Walker]

[Retrieve a Star Seed at the depth of Oceania Death World]

[Acquire a Titan-class Planet Bomber]

[Build a rail connecting Zapour Village to the Union's Trade Center]

[Assassinate the head of the Thieves Guild in Astoria]

The missions shone like a light show as everyone stared in marvel at the display.

These were what the institute called their yearly projects. It was the sole defining feature of a Starweaver studying under the institute. You could sign up for a combat class, a building class, or an espionage class, but all of that was to help students achieve their yearly projects.

"They are all so exceptionally hard," Enzo muttered under his breath as he looked from top to bottom.

They were separated into three grades: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

But it didn't seem to get any easier down the list. They were just so hard and not something one could simply complete.

"Yup, it's giving me a headache just looking at it." Beside Enzo, a familiar voice resounded, forcing him to look back.

Zeke.

He had appeared out of nowhere just now.

"Where have you been?" Enzo asked with a raised eyebrow. The two of them had been looking for Zeke since they got here; the guy had suddenly disappeared.

"Ehn? I just got here." Zeke smiled, then clasped Enzo's shoulder—a show of familiarity.

"Ohh, okay." Enzo nodded, then turned back to the screen. These missions, on further examination, looked very diverse and depended on one's method of facing them.

For example, the Silver Grade mission "Acquire a Titan-class Bomber" was as much of a monetary mission as it was physical.

It all depended on the approach.

One could easily just buy one from a shipping company on or off-world and bring it in. Of course, that would cost a fortune that a single power would have a hard time forking out.

The second approach could possibly be attacking a pirate bomber and stealing it from them. This would require a lot of planning and fighting, but for those without a strong background, it was a valid approach.

"Multilayered, flexible—what a method," Enzo thought to himself, as the method used could very well affect one's grade at the final year.

"Hey, the second years have started recruiting. Look pretty." Zeke tapped Enzo on the shoulder and smiled, his eyes dancing around as the upperclassmen moved about.

These projects were massive; no one person could successfully accomplish them on their own, so the institute allowed students to form clubs.

These clubs would recruit students and pick a project of no less than the Silver Grade. When completed, all members would be scored based on their contributions to the project.

"Hello, are you Enzo Malvaran?" A group of young ladies approached with flyers in hand, sweet smiles on their faces.
