Chapter 168: The Orc Encounter

Upon seeing the Orcs, Hazel stealthily flew over to them, using the trees as cover so she could observe them in person and see how they behaved. She swiftly made it to the group of Orcs traversing through the forest, landing on a tree branch and watching them from above.

The Orcs calmly strolled through the woods, keeping their eyes peeled for any danger. Not knowing that they were currently being watched by a veiled witch who could potentially end their lives if they weren't careful.

"Are you sure we're getting close, Drebur'tok?" One of the Orcs asked the leading one.

"There should be some fresh prey around here somewhere," Drebur'tok muttered, glancing around the area. "We need to hurry before we are spotted."

"Hmm..." Hazel mused.

It seemed that the Orcs were hunting prey. But were the prey players or animals? That was what concerned her.

Hazel continued to observe the Orcs without alerting them. With the use of Telekinesis and Astral Eyes, she was able to properly watch over them while also analyzing their every movement and behavior.

From what she learned, this Drebur'tok Orc was the leader of the group, guiding his fellow Orcs to hunt prey for food along with investigating the Valiant Guild's territory, possibly to one day invade it and claim it as their own. Hazel was curious as to why they were resorting to hunting game rather than raiding houses and the like nearby. Did they already do that and were too late, or was there another reason?

After a bit of roaming, the Orcs stopped for a moment, seemingly taking a break. Witnessing this unfold, Hazel hovered a little closer to them, still hiding in the trees. While she could've easily just shown herself and interrogated them the old-fashioned way, she wanted to see what exactly these Orcs were doing before stepping in. Plus, this was more fun to do.

"How close do you think we are to this tribe's base?" An Orc, Trogarg, questioned, counting his arrows within his quiver.

"Not sure," Drebur'tok shrugged with a sigh. "Though we still need to tread carefully."

"And why should we do that?" Another Orc, this one Vigzog, grunted. "The only enemies we've encountered so far were weaklings. I say we just gather more Orcs and invade this base altogether. It would be a lot quicker in my opinion."

Hearing this, Hazel kept her eyes trained on Vigzog, taking a mental note regarding who she would likely have to kill when she revealed herself.

"Attacking without proper knowledge of who our opponents are or what their capable of is just asking for us to get killed on the spot," Drebur'tok scolded his Orc companion. "We have been encountering weak enemies, yes, but if we assume that all of them are weak, that would only leave us vulnerable to a stronger opponent."

Vigzog shrank back upon his leader's reasonable statement, having no words to retort. Meanwhile, Hazel switched targets, training her eye on the leading Orc. He had a good head on his shoulders and was cautious. Of course, that made him dangerous as well. It was no wonder that he was the leader of this group. If the Brute Orc was the leader, they would've marched straight into the village with a death wish.

Considering that these Orcs were surveying the land in preparation for an invasion, it was likely for the best if Hazel stepped in now. She wanted to simply watch them and then follow them back to their base. But, knowing the situation and that she was on the clock, it would be best for her to deal with this as soon as possible.

"For now," Drebur'tok continued. "We will simply get a lay of the land before reporting back to our tribe."

"I don't think that will be possible," Hazel declared loudly, catching the attention of the Orcs.

The hulking green monsters got into battle positions and directed their gaze at the source of the voice.

"Who goes there?!" Drebur'tok growled. "Show yourself!"

"If you say so."

Doing as the Orc leader ordered, Hazel jumped from the branch she was perched on and slowly descended in front of them using Telekinesis. The Orc group watched with a mixture of cautiousness and fear written on their faces.

Upon revealing herself, Hazel scanned the current state of the Orcs. Drebur'tok was positioned at the front along with the Brute and Barbarian, making them the vanguards. The two Orcs, who were Trogarg and Gul'bog, were stationed at the back of the group, acting as the rear guard.

Due to their group dynamic, it would likely be best if Hazel took down the rearguards first. With her abilities and the like, she could easily do that. However, before resorting to such methods, she held off until the Orcs made the first move.

"Good evening," Hazel said with a wicked smile.

"...Who the hell are you?" The leading Orc interrogated, keeping his eyes trained on her.

"Shouldn't you state your name first?"

"You're the one who intruded on us, so you tell us your name first."

Hazel cackled, startling the other Orcs. "Intruding? If I'm not mistaken, all of you are the ones intruding in this guild's territory, are you not?"

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Drebur'tok grunted, gripping his giant sword with both hands. He glared at Hazel for a moment, likely thinking of attacking her or not. However, he let out a pained sigh while lowering his weapon.

"My name is Drebur'tok. I am from the Tusk Mauler Tribe. Now it is your turn."

Hazel's smile deepened as she answered. "I am Hazel Thatcher. A resident of the tribe you are currently intruding on."

Drebur'tok looked hesitant to say another word after this, likely knowing that any attempt to lie or come up with some kind of excuse as to why they were within the Valiant Guild's territory was futile. Seeing how none of the other Orcs were planning to speak up, Hazel decided to continue.

"Seeing as how you have no response to this, I'll assume that you are all aware that what you're doing is wrong."

"You...!" Vigzog attempted to try something against Hazel, but was immediately stopped by Drebur'tok.

"You are correct," The leading orc declared, causing the rest of his brethren to stare in surprise. "What we are doing is wrong."

"Drebur'tok!" Vigzog hissed in anger. "What are you doing?!"

"Quiet!" Drebur'tok snapped. "Do you not realize what we are dealing with?!"

"It is just one woman!" Drikgorn declared, feeling daring. "We can take her!"

"Look at her status before you suggest such an idiotic plan!"

At the mention of a status window, the other Orcs suddenly faltered before turning their gaze on Hazel. She could tell that they were following their leader's suggestion and checking out her status. And they were in for a surprise.

One of the Orcs suddenly gasped while hesitantly backing away. "I-I can't read her status...what is this sorcery?!"

That was right. None of the Orcs could inspect Hazel's status. In fact, no one could. That was because of one of her Arcane Veil's features. Upon wearing the item, her status was completely concealed, keeping other players from seeing it. This little feature not only gave her a way to keep others from knowing what she was capable of and how strong she was, but she could also utilize this feature as a way to strike fear into her enemies.

Knowing the enemy's status was half the battle. Once you know their class and level, you have a better understanding of what they were capable of. Which is why having such information concealed gave you an edge in a fight. And Hazel was taking advantage of that feature right now.

The other Orcs continued to nervously back away from Hazel, fearful of what could happen if they made a wrong move. Meanwhile, Hazel calmly stood in place, watching them cower before her very eyes.

"Good, you know that none of you stands a chance against me."

"We'll see...about that!" The shaman Orc from the back suddenly shouted.

He then summoned a sickly green arrow before hurling it at Hazel. The other Orcs watched in anticipation, except for Drebur'tok, who only watched in horror. He was the only Orc who knew that the shaman's spell...wasn't going to work. And he was right about that.

Just when the spell was mere inches from Hazel's face, she immediately raised her hand and cast Telekinesis on the spell, instantly stopping it in its tracks. The Orcs' anticipated expressions shifted to stark horror. Especially the shaman who just witnessed his spell suddenly stop in mid-air in such a way.

"M-my poison arrow...!"

Hazel mulled over the shaman's words. So, that's what this spell was. She glanced at the levitated poison arrow, then toward the shaman. A wicked smile formed on her face as she had an idea.

"Here..." She said calmly, still maintaining the same smile. "Let me give this back to you."

With a simple nudge from her hand, the poison arrow was then shot back toward the Shaman. The shaman reacted quickly, conjuring a mana shield in an instant, and watched his poison arrow clash against it before dissipating.

Hazel whistled in admiration. "Good reflexes. I honestly thought you would've died from that just now."

"You...!" The shaman snarled. "Don't you dare mock me!"

Raising his staff, he slammed the butt end on the ground and cast another spell. Out of nowhere, the ground beneath Hazel trembled as if it were about to give way. A moment later, green vines burst from the ground and shot toward her. The tendrils from nature wrapped around Hazel's body, restricting her movements in an instant.

The Orcs, including the shaman, then smiled with glee, ecstatic that his spell worked on her.

"Ha!" The shaman laughed. "This is what happens when you underestimate me!"

Hazel leaned her head to the side curiously. "Underestimate you? If anything, I feel like I've overestimated you." She cackled, alarming the other orcs before her.

Before the shaman could utter a word in response, he watched in horror as a malicious purple aura began to radiate off her body. What was worse was that the vines he used to entrap Hazel now started to rot and wither, as if being deprived of life.

"W-what are you doing?!" The shaman said in horror.

Hazel ignored him and tore the vines off her with ease, watching them snap off before crumbling to dust. Once she was free, she turned her gaze toward the shaman, who was still stricken with horror over this turn of events.

"Got anything else you wish to show me?"

"Y-you monster...!" The shaman became enraged by Hazel's taunt while summoning another spell.

However...

"Too slow..."

Hazel also conjured a spell, instantly summoning a curse spear before hurling it at the shaman. The shaman orc could do nothing as the magic spear shot toward him like a bullet, piercing his chest instantly. The other Orcs watched in horror, unable to do anything because they couldn't keep up with Hazel's speed.

The Shaman orc staggered backward, raising his trembling hands toward the curse spear still lodged in his chest. But just before he could even attempt to pull it out, his body gave in to the curse effect likely coursing through his veins and collapsed on the spot.

A few moments passed before he finally died, which Hazel knew when she received a kill notification.

"Y-you bitch...!" One of the Orcs, Vigzog, glared at Hazel, enraged by the death of their brethren.

He was about to charge at her in an attempt to avenge his fallen companion, but just as he took his first step, Hazel acted first. She pulled her veil up, revealing her malicious and glowing purple eyes for the Orcs to see.

As soon as she laid her evil eyes on the hulking green monsters, all of them instantly froze in place, completely immobile until she turned her gaze away from them.

"W-what the...hell is this...?!" Drebur'tok grunted, straining his body to move, but was unsuccessful.

Hazel stared at the frozen Orcs for a few moments, letting her wicked smile deepen with malicious glee.

"You guys should really choose your next decision wisely," She told them in a soft yet menacing tone. "If I wanted to, I could easily kill you lot without even trying. That's how weak you lot are compared to me. But I'm giving you a chance to survive. And all you have to do...is do one simple request."

"A-and what's...that?" The leading orc questioned, his body still under the effects of Hazel's evil eye.

She calmly walked over to Drebur'tok, making sure to get as close to him as possible. Meanwhile, she kept the other Orcs from moving by activating her Evil Eyes through her Astral Eyes. So, even when her eyes were off them...they still had to worry about her Astral Eyes.

Once Hazel was standing mere inches from the Orc leader, she raised her head to lock eyes with the player, her malicious smile still visible on her face.

"My request...is for you to bring me to your little tribe."
