Blood Moon Rules: God’s Third Hand

chapter 8 - Perfect Ghost Eye

Inside the rental apartment, Zhou Su sat cross-legged on the bed, eyes closed. His expression was so solemn it looked like he might ascend in the next moment. But then his body suddenly collapsed, his whole head diving into the pillow as he tried to yank at his own hair.“What the hell does ‘spirit and flesh resonance, perceive the spirit sea’ even mean!”Zhou Su was on the verge of losing his mind.He had returned to his apartment to try cultivating Dusk Power, but what he hadn’t expected was that the cultivation process would be this abstract. If not for the fact that this thing came from the Blood Moon Shop, he would have suspected it was the creation of some “esoteric qi master who feeds on pure imagination”!The first step of cultivating Dusk Power was to perceive the spirit sea.The spirit sea—also called the sea of the soul, the ocean of the heart.According to the Guide to Awakening Dusk Power (Incomplete), he needed to visualize the purple mote at his brow in order to anchor the location of the spirit sea.He tried everything—meditation, self-hypnosis, seated breathing—but none of it worked.“Sure enough, you get what you pay for!”Zhou Su suddenly understood why a Purple-Mythical—Incomplete item was being sold for only 300 points.Sure, part of it was Blood Moon welfare, but more importantly, the difficulty of cultivating this thing was absolutely beyond human standards. And “perceiving the spirit sea” was only the first step; there were several phases thereafter before Dusk Power could be condensed at all.“Forget it. Cultivating Dusk Power is probably a slow grind. Can’t rush it. Other people won’t even be able to buy the Guide to Awakening Dusk Power for a long time anyway.” He tried to comfort himself. But he also understood clearly that this first-mover advantage would gradually disappear.Among future purchasers of the Guide, there would definitely be monsters of talent. And this sort of “perceive the spirit sea” task sounded exactly like something suited for Daoist-types.But he also knew that anxiety was useless. The crimson book surfaced again before his eyes.He now had a deeper understanding of his ability. If the Blood Moon Rules were a game, then God’s Third Hand was a plugin. Both used the same rating framework—this alone made the relationship obvious. But ordinary plugins are developed for a specific game. His crimson book wasn’t—it applied to any game.If the one that descended had not been Blood Moon Rules, but instead Purple Moon or Blue Moon rules, the crimson book would still work.In other words—the crimson book was independent, not a subordinate system of the Blood Moon. It was a mutation of Zhou Su’s own soul.Zhou Su took a long breath and pushed away all scattered thoughts. His gaze fell upon the Bewitching Ghost Eye on the page.【Proceed with Fusion?】There was nothing to hesitate over. Since he had chosen this path, he would not waver. The moment he confirmed the fusion, the crimson book emitted white light. The dense white radiance stabbed directly into Zhou Su’s eyes—he let out a sharp scream, clutching his eyes as he collapsed to the floor. It felt as if his eyeballs were being set on fire.He gripped the bedding tightly, veins bulging on the back of his hand.He knew fusion would hurt—but he hadn’t expected this. The pain from his eyes surged wave after wave; Zhou Su was nearly blacking out—but after a moment, his brows slowly relaxed. Not because the pain stopped—but because he adapted.“My own strong adaptability… can be used to adapt to pain too?”Zhou Su was a bit surprised. He’d never realized this. But that wasn’t his fault—he wasn’t a masochist. What normal person would deliberately seek pain?Even without this pain-adaptation ability, Zhou Su would still fuse materials without hesitation.Compared to pain—he feared death more. Now that the Blood Moon Rules had descended, if he couldn’t continue to grow stronger, death was inevitable. He didn’t know how long had passed. The burning in his pupils slowly receded. Zhou Su slowly opened his eyes—and the world turned into a blur.Even though he often stayed up late making props, his eyesight had always been fine thanks to frequent eye exercises. But now, he didn’t need a hospital check to know he was severely myopic, maybe only a step away from blindness.Zhou Su suddenly clutched his head—fragmented, chaotic images flashed across his mind: a scarlet head cackling in the dark, pale umbilical cords whipping through a rain of blood—This was clearly mental contamination. The post-fusion side effects of the Bewitching Ghost Eye were even worse than expected.Such hallucinations appearing casually was one thing—but if they appeared in combat, the consequences would be catastrophic.Zhou Su decisively took out the Spirit-Mountain Willow-Leaf Water, the crystal-clear liquid shifting inside the transparent vial. The amount of Willow-Leaf Water was even less than expected. He placed one drop in each eye.He couldn’t suppress the relieved sound that escaped his throat. The moment the water touched his pupils, it was like a fresh spring pouring into a parched desert. The lingering burning was expelled, and the damaged optic nerves rapidly repaired. At the same time, a coolness surged from his pupils like an erupting spring, flowing deep into his brain. The terrifying hallucinations vanished. Like grime washed from glass—his mind became clear.Zhou Su slowly opened his eyes—and to his delight, not only was the blindness removed—his vision had been enhanced. He could see dust motes floating in the air.“Mental contamination removed. Mental strength slightly enhanced.”If he had an attribute panel, it would probably display: Vision +3, Spirit +1.“Test the effect.”Zhou Su instinctively activated the ability. Blood-red radiance bloomed in his pupils like ink spreading through water. The mirror reflected his face: eyes blood-red, veined in scarlet—almost identical to the Bewitching Ghost’s eyes. But without the crazed hostility. The red was purer, almost gemstone-like—like ruby. Zhou Su guessed this was because the Willow-Leaf Water had optimized the fusion.“Zhou Su, open the door!”At that moment, a hoarse male voice came from outside.Zhou Su knew that voice too well. He and the speaker had grown up in the same orphanage, attended the same schools all the way to high school.“Chen Zhengkai, did you bring me supper?”Zhou Su opened the door. With their familiarity, there was no need for pointless small talk.“I worked the whole damn day and I still have to bring you supper? I must’ve owed you in my last life!”Though Chen Zhengkai complained, he had indeed brought the fried skewers Zhou Su liked.Zhou Su didn’t respond to the complaining. His eyes went to the hallway—the corridor light had broken yesterday, and only the emergency lamp glowed faintly, barely lighting the dark hall. But to Zhou Su, it was as clear as daytime.“So this is Darkvision?”Zhou Su was quietly impressed. The ghost eye’s abilities were even more practical than expected.“What happened to your eyes?” Chen Zhengkai, handing over the chicken, nearly jumped at the sight of Zhou Su’s blood-red pupils.“Latest custom contact lenses. Not bad, right?”Zhou Su maintained the ghost-eye state. He wasn’t afraid of being questioned—now that the era of live-broadcast supernatural [N O V E L I G H T] encounters had begun, nothing surprised anyone anymore.“What do you even need that for? Looks creepy as hell.”Chen Zhengkai didn’t probe further. He was used to Zhou Su tinkering with strange things.“Just came back from there?” Zhou Su glanced at the old, somber black suit Chen Zhengkai wore, casually asking.Chen Zhengkai nodded, sighing. “You know how it is right now. I can’t get away.”After the Blood Moon Rules, the two busiest professions were police—and white-cloth ritual workers like Chen Zhengkai.Funny enough: both he and Zhou Su had attended top universities, yet one became a prop maker, the other a funeral ritual master. But knowing him, Zhou Su found it unsurprising.Back in the orphanage, the two of them were known as the “Orphanage Twin Terrors.”One obsessed with horror films. The other obsessed with folk divination and occult texts. The horror stories they used to tell other kids were… unforgettable.Zhou Su glanced behind Chen Zhengkai, slightly puzzled. “New coworker of yours?”A long-haired woman in a dress stood there—the foundation on her face was thick, making her complexion extremely pale.He had already noticed someone in the hallway—but people entered and left rental buildings all the time. But she hadn’t moved. She simply stood silently behind Chen Zhengkai. That made Zhou Su curious. He knew all of Chen Zhengkai’s friends—so he assumed she was a coworker.“Don’t joke around. Who would be there?”Chen Zhengkai turned to look—instinctively shrinking his shoulders—then pulled his collar tight, wrapping himself even more.Zhou Su snapped his head toward the window, staring up at the night sky.If the moon hanging there hadn’t been bright and white, he would have thought a new Blood Moon Rule had descended. Finally, he realized something was wrong. No matter how busy Chen Zhengkai was—no matter how little time he had to change—he shouldn’t be dressed so warmly. It was hot tonight. Zhou Su was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt. Chen Zhengkai, however, was wearing long sleeves and a thick black suit. And even so—he still looked cold.Zhou Su’s gaze slowly lowered—then stopped. The woman had been standing on tiptoe the entire time.
