Invasion of the United States

Chapter 19: Low-altitude Sentinel

It was still a month ago... Kelly returned to Shanghai, planning to use the supply chain system of 'Electric Flight' to provide support for 'Holy Light' still in North America.

Anyone with some sense would realize that the apocalypse presents huge opportunities – many countries have completely collapsed, and as long as someone has money, expanding territories is not just a dream.

But if you are in or around 'Dongda', this dream doesn't exist – you have to look further away; the best place in the world is North America.

Vast land, abundant resources, solid foundations.

Of course, many have their eyes on this prime piece of land as well; the competition is fierce, and without resources or backing, there is no advantage to speak of.

Kelly came to find resources and backing.

Just the day before she returned, as the acting General Manager of 'Electric Flight', Qiu Yongfeng was still wearing a worried face.

General Manager Qiu was originally just the Deputy General Manager in charge of procurement, a quite lucrative position within the company, with decent benefits, but not much say.

Yet over the past year, his superior died, his superior's superior also died, and his superior's superior's superior simply vanished abroad without a trace, forcing Qiu Yongfeng to go to work with a heavy heart, feeling like he inherited a mess.

In recent months, the primary task domestically was to reorganize the production elements, ensuring surviving citizens had jobs, food, and money to spend.

'Electric Flight' is a research and development company, and all its products are outsourced to suppliers for production. But the industrial chain for mechanical and electrical products is fragmented, and even a clever housewife cannot cook without rice!

Kelly convened a company meeting, gathering over a dozen headquarters managers and heads of suppliers to brainstorm on how to resume production and what to produce?

General Manager Qiu lamented at the meeting: "Domestically, we consume 750 million tons of crude oil annually, with 550 million tons being imported.

Now, North America, South America, Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East, these oil-producing regions are all a mess, and crude oil imports have completely stopped.

It is said that domestic crude oil production is also less than a third of what it used to be, forcing coastal refineries to cease operation.

The limited production capacity can only supply the military and key departments.

We are told to complete 'peacekeeping' during the most difficult window for Japan and South Korea, otherwise, waiting half a year to a year for these two industrial nations to recover will make the cost of 'peacekeeping' tenfold or hundredfold.

Without crude oil, not only is the refining industry doomed, but the materials industry follows suit. All our suppliers lack not only personnel but also raw materials."

Upon hearing this, everyone in the meeting nodded repeatedly, and suppliers particularly expressed that the reality was even worse than imagined, fraught with hardships.

"The whole world is a mess now, so don't come whining to me." Kelly's tone was calm, "At least there's order here at 'Dongda'; in North America, there isn't even basic order.

The 'Holy Light' Group has been granted the rights to produce and export weapons. Think about what we can supply to North America, even if it's rudimentary, but it needs to be deliverable quickly."

Sitting next to Kelly was 'Little Pingtou', who had also returned from North America, giving a rough description of the current state in North America and the significantly degraded mode of warfare there via the projector.

A supplier was surprised, "Produce weapons? We've never manufactured weapons before."

Another supplier showed interest, "Actually, making weapons isn't hard, like firearms; any machining workshop can produce them."

Kelly shook her head, "Currently, there's no shortage of firearms and ammunition in North America. 'Holy Light' members there each have about ten guns, and the number captured is ever-increasing.

We need more high-tech stuff, like small guided bombs airdropped by 'Warthogs', as well as guided weapons usable by individuals or vehicles."

The suppliers were at a loss because Kelly's requests were something they had never considered, and everything needed to start from scratch, posing significant challenges.

The first meeting only achieved several basic cooperation intents.

For instance, 'Holy Light' merging and investing in several companies, recruiting employees anew, purchasing several high-speed transport ships, hiring enough crew members, even if they are foreigners.

-----------------

The real solutions had to wait for Old Xiao to return with some definite good news for Kelly.

"The higher-ups said they would fully support 'Holy Light's survival in North America. Given our current predicament, they can flexibly provide some conveniences."

Xiao Jinlang spoke while operating the projector as a PPT presentation appeared on the screen. "Firstly, the higher-ups can provide us with some suitable equipment, like this set of 'Low-altitude Sentinel' systems."

A telescopic electronic mast installed on a military truck appeared clearly on the projection screen, reaching a height of over twenty meters, with a small, agile phased-array radar atop.

Beneath the mast was a small container powered by a diesel generator, with dozens of "loitering munitions" tightly arranged inside like a beehive, implying a "swarm" combat concept.

Kelly asked with a hint of confusion, "What's this used for?"

"Since we have a small number, we like using drones and low-altitude aircraft to deal with others, and also have to guard against others using this tactic against us.

This is an independently developed low-cost counter-drone system by an aerospace institute. It employs infrared and optical dual guidance, capable of effectively targeting low-speed aerial targets like helicopters, and even possesses some ground attack capabilities."

"This seems pretty good," Kelly remarked.

Xiao Jinlang smiled awkwardly and explained, "However, the Army doesn't favor it, considering this 'jack of all trades' seems to handle everything but is proficient in none.

Especially since it lacks the capability for high-intensity operations in complex electromagnetic environments, which is why it wasn't chosen. After failing in domestic bids, this model has had to pivot to seeking exports.
