Married to my suspect

Chapter 73: CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE

CHAPTER SEVENTY THREE

DANIELLE'S POV

I stood in amazement as I took in the mansion standing tall and proud in front of me. We had walked about five minutes into the junction, passing smaller apartments and shops before getting here. I looked at Stephanie, who was watching me with a smile.

"What do you think?" She asked.

I shook my head. "It's huge." As surrounded as I was with Jonathan's money, I'd never seen anything of this scale before. Not in TV or on the internet. The house was three stories high and really wide. It had two sprawling wings on either side that gave it a T shape. I wondered how many rooms would be in the house and how big the rooms were. From the outside, it looked wider than the biggest hall I'd ever been to, and I've been to a lot of spacious halls.

"If there's still time after your meeting. I'll take you on a tour of the property, but for now, we need to go in." Jonathan said, taking my arms and taking me into the door Stephanie had opened for us.

We walked in, and I wasn't surprised to see the entryway was a room, and it was empty. We went further into the room and I took a deep breath as Jonathan opened the door to what I guessed would be the living room. My guess was correct, and we met the two women and man that had come to the restaurant. They were seated on a couch close to the door. From their expression, it was obvious they had been waiting in front of the door for us.

To my dismay, Jonathan released me, but the dismay later turned to curiosity when he pulled the woman that had brought out the knife off the chair and hugged her. The woman held herself stiff for a few seconds before relaxing in his arms. She hugged him for a few seconds and then slapped his back, hard.

"Ow." Jonathan complained as he released her, his hand going to his back. "What was that for?"

The woman moved closer to me, where I was just standing in front of the door awkwardly. I stared at the hand she stretched out. "I'm Camille. I know our first impression wasn't exactly impressive, but it's really nice to meet you." She gestured to the man and woman that were with her. "This is Alice and her husband Pitt. They joined us last year."

I shook their hands. "I'm Danielle."

Camille took my hand and led me to a smaller couch beside the one she had been seated in. Stephanie and the girls were seated on a different chair, not even bothering to hide their curiosity and even with that, there were still about eight unoccupied couches in the living room and there was still enough space for cartwheels, that was how huge the room was.

She turned to Jonathan and arched her brows. "What are you waiting for ? Me to lead you by the hand? And wipe that smile off your face before I do so myself."

Jonathan pressed his lips together. "Yes, ma'am." and sat beside me. Since we were in a small couch, we were automatically pressed together the moment he sat down. I knew what was going to happen next was going to be an interrogation. I could tell from their expressions filled with all sorts of questions, and so I didn't think for more than a few seconds before relaxing fully into Jonathan's side and making my face as comfortable as possible. Even if it took a little effort since my right side was pressed against Jonathan. I had no other choice than to cross my right hand over my chest, for it to be supported by my left.

Camilla sat down and three of them leaned towards us. It was obvious who was running the show, and I kept my eyes on Camilla when trying to meet three of them's eyes proved impossible.

"So, when did you two get married?" She asked, and I noticed with surprise that they were all curious about the answer. Didn't they get internet? All one needed was type in Jonathan's name into the search engine, and even the restaurant he dined at for dinner would show up.

"Almost five months ago." I replied, and I saw the hurt in their faces as they leaned back.

Jonathan sighed. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. It didn't take that much planning, as it was a little rushed because I was really busy then. I would have told you guys eventually."

Stephanie scoffed. "When you get divorced, and we would have no choice but to know about it because it would be everywhere by then, it would be impossible to ignore?"

I stared at her in shock. How did she know our secret? Was something about that already on the internet? I glanced at Jonathan, who was doing a great job hiding surprise, but I could tell her statement had thrown him.

I opened my mouth, but no word came out. Camilla came to my aid by throwing her slippers at Stephanie. "What a nice prediction to make."

Stephanie dodged the slipper and shrugged, her hands open wide. "What? I was simply asking a question. Besides, most marriages these days end up in divorce anyway."

Camilla rolled her eyes, but it was Jonathan that responded to her. "Oh, Is that how it is going with that guy you are planning marriage with?"

Her eyes flashed. "Of course not. We're not like other people. We know everything about each other, and he still loves me."

Camilla sighed. "We'll talk about your self-esteem later. For now, let's focus on the case at hand." She turned to me. "If I had been told before you two got married, I would have called you, and we would have talked, but don't worry, we'll still be able to have that talk." She looked at her clock. "The kids will be coming back from their play date late today, so we still have some time. Should we go somewhere else to talk? Maybe the kitchen?" She asked hopefully.

There was no way I could reject the polite way she had asked, so I simply nodded.

Jonathan started to get up. "Sit down. I'll get to your turn later. And I don't have horns, neither am I breathing fire from my eyes."

"I know. I just wanted to tell you something really quick before you go."

I stayed behind as he whispered something softly to her. She looked at him, arching her brows. "So why not?" and he shrugged. "Please. For me."

She pressed her lips together and motioned to me. "Come on. You don't mind that we get some baking done this way right?"

"Of course not. But I'm horrible at things that don't involve accurate measurements. Unfortunately, even with measurements, I still mess things up."

Her eyes lit up. "Is that so? It's difficult to bake for so many people without measurement, and you won't find me doing that, so it's okay. Now that I look at you two, you suit each other a lot."

I smiled and followed as she led me through the huge living room to the equally huge kitchen, managing to restrain myself not to turn back to see what Jonathan's expression was like. Even without his, I was terrified the interrogation wasn't going to end well. What did I even know about Jonathan? I was sure she definitely would realize when I lied. All in all, I could see my future. I was in trouble.
