Married to my suspect

Chapter 61: CHAPTER SIXTY ONE

The speaker made a sound, so we both turned to it. "Welcome to your first hurdle." The voice said. We both turned to each other. I could definitely hear the hint of laughter, which meant it wasn't an automatic voice.

"Like you were told earlier, you have fifteen minutes to complete a challenge. The challenge for this room is what we call the reverse charade…"

I nodded, remembering what the game was. This was easy territory, so why had they scared us needlessly.

"…but with a twist. You have to act out a word that will be flashed on the wall. Without speaking or using your hands. You have to guess it mainly with facial gestures…"

"What?" That could be hard, though.

"… I will advise that the person that has the better sight should act it out because the words will only flash for a few seconds. Turn and look at the wall behind you…"

We both turned to the wall and I narrowed my eyes, barely catching the word 'microwave.'

"…that's the way it will come out. You have ten seconds to decide who will describe the word, and your time will start. When you're ready, click the button beside you and the words will come out. You have to correctly guess ten words in that time to succeed. Easy right? See you in the next room." The speaker became quiet and I looked at Jonathan.

His eyes were on me. "You wear lenses, right?" He asked.

I nodded. "But the words are too small to really see it. Were you unable to see the word?" I asked with a self depreciating laugh. If that was the case, we were going to be in trouble. "I wonder what the penalty is." I muttered and Jonathan laughed.

"Already giving up? I can see better than you can, obviously. Will you be able to guess the word based on my facial expressions?" He asked.

I shrugged and stood in front of him. "From what I know, you don't even have a lot to begin with. If we fail from the start, it won't be my fault but yours. Do you agree with that?"

He laughed. "Oh. You're a little competitive?"

"Little is an understatement. Come on, time is ticking already."

JONATHAN'S POV

"Sure. I'm ready when you are." She nodded and pursed her lips, already looking determined to win, and I clicked the button.

I frowned and puffed my cheeks, opening my eyes wide.

Danielle cocked her head. "Air?"

I shook my head and puffed my cheeks again, feeling so silly. She should have been the one doing this, not me.

She wasn't even bothering to hide her smile. "Are you trying to pout? Is the word pout?"

I shook my head and raised one finger to confirm it was a word. A throat cleared from the speaker and I dropped my hand. How were we going to get ten questions right?

"Wind?" She asked and I shook my head. I changed tactics and blew into the air.

She looked confused, so I nodded for her to continue. She frowned. "Air?"

I shook my head and blew into the air again and puffed my cheek again.

"Balloon." She said hesitantly and I nodded, smiling. She looked relieved until the next word came, and I frowned, trying to figure out how to describe spoon with my facial expression.

DANIELLE'S POV

I had imagined the game was going to be difficult, but the first question had proved me wrong. Were we just good, or had we been underestimated? Jonathan swallowed air, looking at me with encouragement. I shrugged. "Air?"

He shook his head and opened his mouth then closed it and smiled, so I took a wild guess. "Food?"

He nodded, and I was about to start rejoicing, but he shook his head. I was close to the answer, I guessed. "Toast?, Bread?, Hot coffee?, Eggs" I asked, that was what we mostly ate in the morning.

He shook his head and I glanced at the timer. We had already spent close to three minutes. This wasn't the walk in the park I had imagined. "Is it a food?" Surely not.

He shook his head. What could him opening and closing his mouth mean in relation to food, that wasn't food? I was tempted to just start listing things that could be found in the kitchen. "Spoon?"

He nodded and clapped. That was the right answer?

He clicked the button again and turned to me and squinted his eyes. I narrowed mine. "Glasses?" I asked, and we both burst out laughing when he nodded.

We continued that way as I guessed toothbrush, elevator, hat, and ice cream correctly. We had six more minutes left. My competitive head was rearing its ugly head. I really wanted to win.

I laughed when he started darting his eyes from side to side. Somehow, seeing him in another expression apart from a frown he always sported and a smile he rarely showed was hilarious to me.

I followed his eye and he shook his head, urging me by nodding. I cocked my head again. "Running?" He shook his head.

He continued what he was doing with his eyes, but this time he was now looking up and down. "What are you doing with your eyes?"

He smiled and shrugged, and I tried to figure out what it might mean. This game had helped me realize I wasn't very smart, and this was a horrible place to find out. I was going to make us both receive penalties because I couldn't guess well. "Are you mad at someone? Nervous?"

He shook his head and I sighed. He started turning his head and I glanced at the speaker. Thankfully, nothing came from there. What rolled and moved its eyes in all directions? "Is it a lizard?"

He shook his head and even though I was getting fed up, seeing his expressions and the fact that he wasn't pressing me and kept a smile on his face was a great encouragement. "Clock?" I asked, and he nodded and pressed the button again.

"Did something enter your eyes?" I asked, concerned when his eyes started blinking fast.

He shook his head and nodded towards the wall, and I felt stupid. He had been describing what the word was. Something that had to do with blinking. "Camera?"

His eyes widened, and his smile grew wider. He pressed the button and, looking at me, closed his eyes slowly. I stared at his face for a second, he really looked different with his eyes open and closed. When his eyes were closed, like when I woke up, and he was still asleep, he looked adorable. With his black, piercing eyes, he looked really handsome. A vast difference from the other man.

He opened his eyes and I glanced away, forcing my brain to work. "Sleep?"

He nodded then shook his head, a sign I recognized as being close to the answer. "Bed?" He shook his head again, and I had to think again. I'd been sure it was one of the two I had mentioned. "Sheets?" He shook his head again. What else was related to sleeping?

My eyes went to the unforgiving timer, we had less than two minutes left, but I wasn't sure how many I'd guessed correctly. "Bedroom?" I guessed and he shook his head.

"Pillow?" I guessed, and he nodded and pressed the button again. Confetti streamed into the room with the pop of a balloon, and I jumped.

"Congrats. You've made it past this room." The voice said through the speaker, and the wall, or should I say door, slid open.

"Yayyy." I exclaimed and Jonathan clapped.

"That was difficult."

I nodded. "True. If I was the one giving the words, we'd have used less than ten minutes. I mean, how were you trying to describe hat by looking up. Roof was my best bet." I teased.

He laughed. "When you do it, we'll see. How could you not get balloon immediately? Even I thought it was very easy. I would have been able to guess it in my dream." He teased back, and I laughed as we entered the room.

The wall slid back into its former position and I looked around. The room looked just like the first one except for the presence of a karaoke machine with two microphones.

I glanced at Jonathan. "Surely not."
