The Hero’s Harem is Trying to Kill Him

Chapter 108: Chains of Dominion

Scene 1 – The Fractured Light

The explosion of power left nothing but whiteness for a moment—blinding, absolute. Kai staggered, his vision swimming. He expected the crash of stone, the roar of the Arbiter's power—but instead, silence.

When the world resolved, the arena was gone.

He stood in a vast sky of endless twilight, the horizon painted in a shifting swirl of colors—purple, crimson, gold. Beneath his feet, there was no stone, no ground at all, only a mirror surface that reflected not his body, but fractured shards of himself.

Behind him, Amy, Lira, and Iris were no longer chained. They stood free—yet each one glowed faintly, their forms flickering as though they were more spirit than flesh.

Amy frowned, gripping her broken staff. "This… isn't real."

The Arbiter's voice rolled through the twilight, disembodied, omnipresent:

"Reality bends under dominion. You fight not only for their bodies—but their souls. Break their chains here, Hero, or they will never return."

Kai turned sharply. "Show yourself!"

The Arbiter's laughter answered, stretching like thunder. "I am already here. In every shadow, every doubt you've buried, every secret they hide from you. Dominion is not won in flesh—it is seized in spirit."

The mirror ground rippled. Three chains of light erupted, lashing around Amy, Lira, and Iris. They gasped as the shackles wrapped their arms and necks, dragging them backward. Each chain sank into a vortex of swirling darkness, pulling them toward it.

Kai sprinted forward—but the Arbiter's voice cut him like a blade.

"You cannot free them all at once. Choose, Hero. Who will you save first?"

Scene 2 – Amy's Chains

Amy screamed as she was dragged into her vortex. Light consumed her form until she vanished completely. Kai swore under his breath and dove after her, plunging into the whirlpool of energy.

The world shifted again.

Kai landed in a ruined cathedral. Sunlight blazed through shattered stained glass, but the light was cold, not warm. Rows of pews lay broken, and at the far end stood Amy. But this Amy was different—her robes tattered, her staff blackened and twisted.

She looked up with eyes full of bitterness.

"You failed me once already, Kai. You let me carry the burden until it broke me. Why should I trust you now?"

Kai froze. The venom in her voice cut deeper than any blade.

The Arbiter's laughter echoed faintly overhead. "Every wife carries a chain of doubt. Can you break it, Hero? Or will you choke on the weight of their truth?"

Amy raised her corrupted staff, summoning spears of golden light that twisted black as they formed. With a flick, she hurled them at Kai.

He rolled aside, the spears exploding against the pews, sending splinters flying. His heart pounded. This isn't Amy. It's her fear. Her pain.

But Amy's phantom pressed forward, her voice shaking as she shouted:

"You always rush ahead, Kai! You promise everything will be fine—but what if one day it's not?! What if you can't save us all? What if you can't save me?!"

Kai blocked another strike, the force numbing his arm. He gritted his teeth.

"I can't promise perfection, Amy. I can't promise I'll never fall short. But I can promise I'll never stop fighting for you."

The phantom hesitated—just for a second. The chains binding Amy's true form cracked, light spilling through.

But the Arbiter whispered again, voice oily and cruel:

"Words are wind. Dominion is proven only in strength. Break her doubts—or lose her."

The corrupted Amy screamed, lunging with her staff raised high.

Scene 3 – Breaking the First Chain

The phantom's staff came down like a guillotine. Kai caught it on his blade, sparks flying. The impact drove him to his knees, the mirror floor beneath the cathedral cracking.

Amy's true self appeared behind the phantom, her voice hoarse. "Kai… don't give up."

Kai's eyes burned with determination. He pushed upward, channeling every ounce of aura he had left. His blade flared with golden light, not borrowed, not forced—born from the bond he shared with her.

With a roar, he shoved the phantom back. The false Amy staggered, cracks racing through her body.

"You're right," Kai said, voice steady. "I might fail. I might stumble. But if I do… I'll rise again. For you. Always for you."

He lunged forward, driving his blade through the phantom. The corrupted form shattered into shards of light that dissolved into the air.

The chains binding Amy exploded into fragments. She collapsed to the ground, gasping, but free.

Kai rushed to her side, lifting her gently. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. "You… really mean it."

"I've never meant anything more."

The cathedral dissolved around them in a blaze of light. The mirror world returned—and Amy, now solid and whole, stood at his side.

Two chains remained.

Scene 4 – Lira's Chains

Without warning, the vortex swallowed Lira. Kai barely had time to shout before she vanished. He dove after her.

The new world was not a cathedral, but a dungeon. Chains hung from the ceiling like vines, dripping with rust. The air reeked of blood and iron. Torches flickered, but their flames burned green.

At the center, Lira stood—bound in chains that pierced her skin. Her eyes glowed red, her expression twisted into a cruel grin.

"So this is what you wanted, Kai," she spat. "A chained beast at your side. Bound. Controlled. Nothing but a weapon to swing."

Kai's chest clenched. "That's not true."

The Arbiter's voice slithered around the dungeon. "Is it not? Dominion is control. And chains are her nature. Deep down, she knows it."

The phantom Lira yanked her chains free, wielding them like whips. They lashed out, striking the floor, sending sparks and dust into the air. "You say I'm free, Kai. But all I ever do is follow your lead. How is that any different from before?"

Kai's sword trembled in his grip. The accusation hit too close. Had he really freed her—or just replaced one master with himself?

The phantom struck, chains snapping toward him like serpents. He dodged, the metal carving gouges into the ground.

Lira's true voice echoed faintly from the chains: "Don't… believe her. I… I chose you."

Kai steadied himself, raising his blade. "Lira, you're not my weapon. You're my partner. You've always been more than your chains—you've been my strength."

The phantom sneered. "Lies."

The chains snapped around his throat, dragging him to his knees.

Scene 5 – Breaking the Second Chain

Kai's vision darkened as the chains tightened. He clawed at them, gasping for breath. The Arbiter's voice pressed in.

"See? Even now, she binds you. You cannot break free without breaking her."

But through the haze, Kai saw Lira's true self. She struggled against her shackles, blood running down her arms, tears in her eyes. "Kai… I'm not your prisoner. You're mine. And I don't want to let you go."

The words cut through the fog like sunlight. Kai gripped the chains around his throat—not to tear them off, but to pull himself closer to the phantom.

"You're not my chain, Lira," he whispered, voice ragged. "You're my anchor. Without you, I'd drift away. I need you."

His aura flared, pouring into the chains. They glowed, then shattered in an eruption of light. The phantom Lira screamed, her form breaking apart before dissolving into dust.

The real Lira collapsed into his arms, trembling. She pressed her forehead against his. "Don't ever say that again, idiot. Don't say you'd drift away."

Kai smiled faintly. "Then stay with me. Always."

The dungeon melted into light. The mirror world returned once more. Amy and Lira stood beside him, whole. Only one chain remained.

Scene 6 – Iris's Chains (Cliffhanger)

The last vortex swallowed Iris.

Kai didn't hesitate. He plunged in after her.

This world was colder than the others. A barren wasteland of snow and ash stretched endlessly, the wind howling like the cries of the dead.

In the center, Iris knelt in the snow, her robes black, her eyes closed. A massive chain pierced her chest, anchoring her to the frozen ground.

When she opened her eyes, they glowed with pale blue fire. She looked at Kai not with love—but with sorrow.

"You can't save me, Kai," she whispered. Her voice echoed like glass breaking. "Because deep down, I don't believe I deserve to be saved."

The Arbiter's voice thundered across the frozen wasteland.

"And this is the deepest chain of all, Hero. The chain of self-denial. Can you break what she herself clings to?"

The snowstorm surged, swallowing them both.

The trial of dominion wasn't over—its cruelest truth was only beginning.
