Best Friend X Swap

chapter 19

The very first thing Seo-eul did after finally escaping from the blanket was to grab Seo Sa-heon by the collar and shake him hard. After demanding he explain why he had not only snuck into someone else’s room but also turned off every single alarm, Sa-heon, who let himself be shaken without resistance, calmly offered an excuse with a straight face.“My air conditioner broke.”At that, strength slipped out of Seo-eul’s fingers clutching the T-shirt.The air conditioner that had worked perfectly fine until yesterday—why would it suddenly break? If it were true, that alone would justify him opening Seo-eul’s door a hundred times over.Sensing Seo-eul’s hesitation, Sa-heon yawned softly and added with a face that showed no hint of remorse, “You were cold, so I wrapped you in the blanket and held you. Why?”“……”Seo-eul’s pupils trembled as if an earthquake had struck. He had to have gone mad—or heatstroke must have cooked his brain. At this point, it was best to brush it off as a mistake or a sleep habit and move on. Still, it was baffling that he would say something like that knowing full well that everything was being filmed.Letting go of the shirt he’d only been pretending to hold, Seo-eul’s voice dropped a tone. He had to be the calm one, at least.“Are you still half asleep? Or did you really get heatstroke? Sa-heon, we’re packing up and leaving later.”Seo Sa-heon, we’re filming right now.He tried to say it as indirectly as possible, but the man slumped in front of him showed no change in expression.“I know.”“Then why would you talk like—like that….”“What?”“……”“……”“Never mind… ha. Forget it.”Judging by the atmosphere, this conversation was going nowhere. Not showing it outwardly but noticing that Sa-heon seemed oddly drained of energy, Seo-eul sighed and pressed the air conditioner’s power button again. For someone who complained about the heat, he sure was quiet now. When Seo-eul had said his head hurt earlier, Sa-heon had already grabbed his forehead and nape under the pretense of checking for a fever.Only after Seo-eul, barely restraining himself, explained that it was because of you that my head hurts did Sa-heon finally stop. But even after that, he still never picked up the remote again. He’d claimed he came here because his room was too hot, yet now—was this endearing or just idiotic? Seo-eul couldn’t decide. Eventually, he sighed and lowered the temperature all the way to “power” mode before stepping off the bed.“I’ll go wash up first, so wake up properly. It’s already nine.”“Mm.”“You packed your suitcase, right? Let’s check that after breakfast.”“Uh…”“Don’t fall asleep again.”“……”“Seo Sa-heon.”Even after calling his name, the man had already slumped back onto the bed and closed his eyes. Seeing that he seemed pleased with the icy wind pouring down from the ceiling, Seo-eul gave up on talking to him any further and opened the door. How was he supposed to wake him again later?Running a hand down his face in frustration, he froze when he met the hallway camera head-on. His gaze reflexively turned away.Ah, right. This was a variety show. The belated thought made him awkwardly turn his head back.Since he was used to avoiding camera lenses when there was no director present, it felt strange.Standing in front of a camera without a script was a first for him.In the previous season, the other cast members had easily chatted to the camera on their own… but he didn’t have the nerve for that, so he moved his legs awkwardly instead. But weren’t there too many cameras? They were only filming here for half a day, after all.It felt wasteful that the crew had come barging in last night just to set all these up, but that was beyond his jurisdiction. He decided the production team that had successfully run several seasons surely knew better than he did, rubbed the corner of his eye with his finger, and went into the bathroom. He immediately despaired at the sight of his messy, puffed-up hair in the mirror.Ah.“Sa-heon, now—”He opened the door again after finishing his shower on impulse. The cold air that hit his skin made him flinch. The bed area looked utterly still—no sign of movement.Without hesitation, Seo-eul strode toward the window and, instead of turning on the lights, yanked open the tightly drawn blackout curtains. The once-dark room flooded with sunlight in an instant.Unlike Seo-eul, who couldn’t sleep when it was bright, Sa-heon could pass out anywhere with just a pillow under his head.Still, sunlight stabbing at his eyes usually made him bury his face in the pillow, so it was worth a try.Thinking that this would at least wake him up a little, Seo-eul turned around—and lost his words.“Ha.”Sa-heon, covered with only a thin blanket, was indeed asleep without moving an inch. But the problem was the T-shirt carelessly thrown halfway off the bed. He’d told him a hundred times to be careful during filming. With the air conditioner blasting like that, what was he even thinking?Letting out a deep sigh, Seo-eul tapped the glass before him.“Excuse me. Mr. Seo Sa-heon.”“……”“The sun’s up. Please get up now.”But a noise like that would never wake him. After several failed attempts, Seo-eul finally gave up and stepped closer to the bed.Face half-buried in the pillow against the glare, Sa-heon looked… kind of cute. But as Seo-eul approached, the broad back exposed outside the blanket became more and more visible. The muscles and defined shoulder blades—shaded as if painted with a brush—looked unnecessarily sensual, more fitting for a late-night video than a “healing variety show.”Come to think of it, what was the show’s age rating again?Annoyed that even his shoulder blades were handsome, Seo-eul pulled the fallen blanket up to cover him and shook his shoulder. The room was freezing, but the skin under his palm was burning hot. Startled, he flinched, then quickly composed his face. Even if Sa-heon couldn’t see him, the camera surely could.“I told you not to fall asleep again.”“……”“Why’d you take your shirt off again? I turned on the air conditioner for you.”He must have thrown it off in his sleep. Every summer, Sa-heon half-lived without clothes despite all of Seo-eul’s warnings.Pouring his exasperation into his hands, Seo-eul shook his shoulder again. Finally, a low sigh came in response. At last.Sitting at the edge of the bed, Seo-eul murmured, “Wake up, Seo Sa-heon.”“You awake?”“…No.”“You just answered.”“……”“Sa-heon. Hiding only your head doesn’t count. Are you a pheasant?”The face buried in the pillow pressed in even deeper, refusing to emerge. It wasn’t as though his large frame could actually hide, but his squirming made him look ridiculous.“Seriously, are you a pheasant?” Seo-eul teased, his tone lightening.Just then, the man who hadn’t said a word suddenly stretched out a hand.“Be quiet, Seo-eul…”Before he knew it, Seo-eul’s wrist had been pulled, and he fell onto the bed beside him with a soft thud.Blinking blankly at the sudden situation, he turned his head—Sa-heon, now facing him, muttered in a low, sleepy voice without opening his eyes.“You sleep too.”“……”“I’ll let you sleep. Just an hour more…”Then his large hand gently patted under Seo-eul’s collarbone—like he was soothing a child who’d begged to play since dawn.It was no different from earlier, and though it was absurd, Seo-eul’s head ached at the realization that this must’ve been how he’d been “put back to sleep” before. If not for an extra alarm he’d set, they would’ve slept straight into the afternoon.Even if it was supposed to be a reality show about daily life, they couldn’t spend the entire filming session asleep.Still, at least this time he wasn’t wrapped up in the blanket. That alone was something. He tried to sit up quickly, but his expression faltered. The palm resting on his chest had gone completely still.“……?”Was it his imagination?Frowning, Seo-eul carefully gripped the thick wrist and tried to move it aside, ~Nоvеl𝕚ght~ but it didn’t budge—not even slightly. It was as if it had frozen in place.Letting out a disbelieving breath, Seo-eul opened his mouth.“Hey.”“……”“You’re flexing on purpose.”On a normal day, he’d already have been pushed away easily. Seo-eul knew the man’s strength and habits too well.Knowing perfectly well that he was doing this on purpose, he spoke in disbelief—but the half-lying Seo Sa-heon kept his eyes closed and feigned innocence. So he was pretending to be asleep again. That same useless mischief at work once more—Seo-eul’s once-gentle eyes narrowed sharply. It wasn’t as if he could be ignored forever. It was only one arm, after all.Surely, he could pull it away.So he tightened his grip on the hand holding his wrist.
