Chapter 78 – Sorry, What Was That You Said?
“What the hell just happened?! Didn’t he say he had a Minor Mage Armor scroll equipped?! How’d he get wiped out in one hit?!”
Hearing the system broadcast announcing their teammate’s elimination, the three remaining members were stunned.
“Minor Mage Armor can’t provide complete protection for every part of the body,” the bald Divine Child finally managed to say after a pause, voice heavy. “At most, it covers vital spots like the head, chest, and abdomen.”
“A precision shot to the neck like that wouldn’t be within the protection range of a Minor Armor scroll.”
“Teresa… she’s that Teresa?!”
“Hey, Baldy—didn’t you always brag about your Divine Appraisal? Think of something already!”
Clearly, the three attributed Teresa’s terrifying accuracy to a Divine Authority.
“What do you want me to do? Divine Appraisal doesn’t work on her! I’m desperate too, okay?!”
Baldy looked like he was having an existential crisis. Among his peers, he wasn’t exactly average—more like one in a hundred. Yet here he was, unable to use even his signature skill. The frustration was overwhelming.
Meanwhile, the fireball from the dying Mage and Endy’s arrow had indeed hit Teresa, launching her backward with the blast.
But to their shock, Teresa merely tumbled when she landed—completely uninjured, like nothing had happened.
What—was that fireball fake or something?!
They could only assume her Domain granted her unusually high magical and physical resistances.
So far, Teresa’s performance had exerted immense psychological pressure on the remaining three. Most of that came from the information gap—they knew nothing about her Domain, Divine Authority, or what she might do next. In contrast, she knew everything about them.
Her pale, delicate heels landed softly on the arid earth. Silken hair swept over her shoulders with the motion as she glanced down at her longbow. A patch near the bow's arm had been scorched black.
That was the trace left by the fireball. Physical damage didn’t affect her much thanks to her Domain, but magical attacks still left a clear mark.
But the trio had no way of noticing such fine details. From their perspective, Teresa was absurdly resistant to both magic and physical attacks—resistance so high it felt invincible. Once they locked that belief into their minds, they were essentially trapped by their own assumptions.
The Divine Child had become dead weight. The Mage was dead. That left only the two Divine Princesses still able to act.
Seeing that their teammates were unreliable, Bolton and Endy started making moves of their own.
Teresa glanced above her head—there was a small glowing “1” hovering there. It was Endy’s Divine Authority marker. If it reached 3, Endy could trigger it for an explosion. Until then, it wasn’t a concern.
First, she needed to deal with the tunneling rat.
But Bolton always vanished underground immediately after attacking, giving her no opportunity to counter. Meanwhile, Endy continued applying pressure with aimed shots.
Teresa could ignore Endy for now. She focused completely—her long, pointed ears twitching slightly as she listened intently to the sounds beneath her feet.
Endy loosed an arrow that struck Teresa in the chest—only to rebound harmlessly, unable to pierce her defense.
Endy was stunned.
Physical attacks didn’t work on her at all? Her Domain’s resistance couldn’t possibly be higher than Felicia’s, could it?!
Bolton burst from the ground again, claws coated in thick, brownish muck as he slashed toward Teresa.
She dodged with ease, but before she could draw her bowstring, Bolton dove back underground like a fish plunging into water—disappearing without a trace.
For Bolton, it didn’t matter if his attack missed. There was zero risk. After each strike, he could instantly burrow back down, with no opening to exploit—a virtually recovery-free combo.
“Little missy, watch and learn! You’re still too green to fight me! Hahahaha!”
As Bolton disappeared underground again, Teresa’s pale palm glowed with a budding green sprout.
She crouched down, gently pinching the sprout between her fingers, and with deliberate grace, placed it into the burrow Bolton had left behind…
Then she drew her bow.
Light gathered around her wings, brilliant and dazzling. The radiant arrow nocked at her bowstring gleamed brighter and brighter as power surged into it.
Boom, boom, BOOM!
A moment of eerie calm was shattered by a tremor shaking the ground violently, as though something was ramming the crust from below.
Endy lost his balance and stumbled. Before he could figure out what was happening—
A thunderous roar echoed out, followed by his teammate’s pained scream.
He spun around to see all the holes Bolton had dug suddenly erupting with thorny vines, bursting upward.
Caught in the thorns with nowhere to hide, Bolton was dragged out of the earth by the wildly growing briars.
Thick, gnarled vines wrapped him up like a fist, hurling him into the air.
At the same time, Teresa released her fully charged empowered light arrow.
It shone like a nebula, piercing Bolton mid-air. The arrow carried him across the desert in a trail of golden light. Before he could even hit the ground—
The system broadcast declared his elimination.
[Verdant Fragrance] + Empowered Light Arrow + Critical Hit
The combo took Bolton out in an instant.
“Damn it!” Endy hurriedly drew his bow, trying to snipe Teresa in revenge.
Teresa sidestepped—his arrow only grazed her hair.
“Damn it all…”
Seeing the two glowing markers over Teresa’s head, Endy clenched his bow tightly.
Just one more hit. He only needed one more mark to trigger his Divine Authority.
Everything had gone smoothly until now—so why was this third shot impossible to land?
It felt like Teresa knew exactly how his Divine Authority worked. She’d deliberately ignored his first two arrows, only to avoid the third at all costs.
But that couldn’t be. She was a Divine Princess, not a Divine Child—how could she know the details of his Authority?
“Retreat!”
Realizing the fight was hopeless, Endy gave up on the bald Divine Child and fled alone.
“Hey—hey! You bastard!” The bald man barely had time to shout a complaint—
Before Endy abruptly stopped mid-step.
An arrow had pierced the back of his neck.
“Urk—urgh—!”
His eyes rolled back. The pain from having his throat pierced by the arrow was simulated with harrowing realism—the suffocating agony made him wish for death.
His misery didn’t last long. Teresa quickly followed up with another arrow, finishing him off.
The bald Divine Child stared in horror.
Two glowing arrows were now embedded in Endy’s neck.
He collapsed onto the ground in a daze.
Her arrows seemed to have a will of their own—always targeting the neck. No matter where her opponents fled, they would be throat-shot.
Magic attacks and physical strikes were useless against her. She had no openings to exploit.
“P-Please don’t shoot my—”
Thwack!
“Sorry, sir—what was that you just said? Mind repeating that?”
Tilting her head, Teresa watched as the bald Divine Child lost consciousness, a glowing arrow now embedded in his throat.
