Liu Wei immediately asked the System, "What are those threads now?"
The System immediately replied:
[Those glowing, silk-like threads respond to intent: if you're studying alchemy and agriculture, threads will extend towards alchemy shelves, specifically for pill recipes that will improve your farming, or agriculture as a whole.
It's a rare combination. You, yourself, know that pills are for humans. To focus it in agriculture is a whole different specialization.]
Liu Wei's eyes widened.
He thought.
This feature… It's encouraging me to seek knowledge for something I haven't thought of!
The System continued.
[If you touch the thread, it feels slightly warm and it will hum with resonance, as though tugging it could reveal a new insight. Try it.]
Liu Wei was surprised.
But then, his face turned ugly.
He asked in a displeasing tone, "How am I supposed to touch them? I can't fly."
[I was kidding. Of course, just by staring at it encourages you to learn cross-disciplinary learning, which reveals unexpected synergies or forgotten knowledge.]
Liu Wei rolled his eyes and nodded.
The System said in mischievous tone:
[Look how gullible you are. You can touch the threads, but you have to wait for it to come into you. It does not seem to feel your desire to learn cross discipline at the moment. However, you will still be inspired just by staring at it.]
Liu Wei was speechless.
At this point, the trust issue he has towards the System was now becoming concerning.
Liu Wei soon lost interest in the Index Threads.
If he wanted to focus on cross-disciplinary learning already, he must solidify his learnings on the individual discipline first.
To lessen the difficulty of learning them.
He has ample time, after all.
He then swept his gaze and focused on what caught his interest earlier.
The Catalog Spirits…
Before, they were just a wisp of lights, but now they appear humanoid.
At the moment, there were two of them, standing beside the Knowledge Scrying Desk—the only feature in the Basic stage of the Grand Index Hall remained.
As soon as he gazed at them, they slowly walked towards them.
Liu Wei scrutinized their appearance and thought.
How strange. They appear humans, yet not.
The other person seemed to be a living manuscript shaped into a person. His skin looked like aged parchment covered in drifting ink characters.
His limbs swayed and Liu Wei would not be surprised if they bend like rolled or folded scrolls.
He lacked a face and his eyes were like a galaxy and each star contained knowledge.
He moved with a whispering whistle, like paper being turned in a silent library.
Liu Wei then focused on the other person and she was definitely a woman with her long black hair, seemingly like a brush.
She wore a robe that rippled like spilled ink.
The robe was dark, flowing, sometimes dripping calligraphic strokes that form patterns mid-air, leaving behind a magical trail of their magnificent ink-like shadow.
Looking closely, her fingertips were brush-tips, leaving trails of glowing ink with every gesture.
Her face was hidden under an ink-veil, manifesting the enigma of her identity.
Once they arrived before him, the humanoid scroll spoke first.
"Greetings, Librarian. May I know which books you want to read?"
From his tone, he was obviously amiable.
Liu Wei replied, "I don't have one, at the moment. But, may I chat with you two."
The humanoid scroll immediately replied with a jovial tone, "Of course."
The ink-robed woman, on the other hand, did not reply.
However, she remained standing, so Liu Wei took it as a yes.
He smiled at her and then focused on the humanoid scroll and asked, "I'm simply curious what you specialized in? And her, too."
The humanoid scroll's eyes lit up and nodded.
He said, "We are simply civil servants of your library, Librarian. In fact, we both possess the same knowledge, but our personalities are simply in contrast with each other, to suit the visitors and your needs.
For instance, if your future visitor likes an outward, approachable, chatty, often eager to unfurl the knowledge directly, then I'll be their perfect guide. If they want a reserved, mysterious, calm, guiding with gestures, ink trails, or quiet explanations rather than chatter, keeping a dignified distance, then she's the perfect guide.
Don't worry, as soon as one visitor appears, another existence like me will appear to serve them, the same for her, too."
The humanoid scroll stared at the ink-robed woman, but the latter did not reply, simply remaining standing… or should Liu Wei observed, floating.
The humanoid scroll continued, "The visitor can simply choose which one of us to guide them in the library. Of course, we can guide them both, at the same time.
Also, Librarian, if you are worried about some privacy being leaked, don't worry, we only possess knowledge that can be shared. In other words, only the knowledge contained in this library.
Of course, what we can disclose is simply limited, especially if you make it clear to us. We will remain in your desk, so we will be immediately instructed what to do towards your visitors."
Liu Wei nodded and thought.
I see. This is actually perfect. A guide that will suit the visitor's needs, especially if they are an extrovert or introvert. This is perfect, it will only enhance their satisfaction in remaining in this library to study.
The System's voice echoed in his head.
[They will always be bound by the library's will. You don't have to worry about them rebelling. They are not humans, just in shape.]
Liu Wei smiled, understanding what the System meant.
Liu Wei glanced at the humanoid scroll and said, "So, you will walk alongside with the visitors and retrieve multiple sources they want like a scholarly guide?"
The humanoid scroll nodded and replied, "Indeed. We can even suggest reading this and that to them. I mean, for me. I don't know about her."
The ink-robed woman immediately replied… in a pleasing woman tone, of course.
"I will do that, too. Not in a way that will bother them."
Liu Wei smiled in their interactions.
He couldn't help but ask, "Are you two siblings?"
