Chapter 121: The Day of the Descent of the Gods
“Wei Lan, you—”
The chaotic footsteps outside rapidly approached, and then the door to the dressing room was forcibly pushed open.
The first to enter was a female security guard. Her gaze was initially tense, but upon scanning the room, she froze for a moment.
She nodded slightly, and only then did the people behind her crowd in. They were all heavily armed private security, with the Bulbous-Nosed Man among them. But when their eyes shifted toward the room, all their expressions looked a bit dumbfounded.
Inside the room were only three people whose identities seemed completely out of place: Wei Lan, Han Su, and Xu Ji.
Two were sitting on chairs, one on the sofa, positioned in a triangle. Xu Ji’s face was covered with sticky notes, and Wei Lan had one on her cheek. Only Han Su was half-standing, holding a “big joker” high in the air, ready to throw it down!
The tense crowd suddenly didn’t know what to say.
Wei Lan turned around in slight surprise, lifted the sticky note from her face, and smiled. “What is it?”
Then, looking a bit embarrassed, she added, “I met too many big shots today, so I was a little tired. I was just going to touch up my makeup.”
“Is the auction gala starting early?”
“…”
“No, the auction gala has been canceled.”
The female security guard at the front finally reacted, stepping forward and saying in a low, steady voice, “The banquet was just attacked, and they even brought guns. Luckily, Mr. Du was there to deal with them. The master noticed you weren’t in the hall, worried for your safety, and sent me to check on you.”
“Danger?”
Wei Lan looked a bit surprised and quickly asked, “The Old Man wasn’t startled, was he?”
“No.”
The female security guard lowered her voice. “The Old Man is sending the guests off. Of course…”
She glanced at the three people in the room and said, “If you’re still interested, you can finish your game before leaving.”
“That won’t be necessary. We should be going as well.”
Wei Lan stood up with a smile, signaling for her assistant among the crowd to come over and pack her things. But Xu Ji suddenly shouted:
“Wait!”
The sudden cry startled everyone again, and they all turned to look at him.
Xu Ji snatched the big joker from Han Su’s hand, slammed it down, and shouted, “Bomb!”
The room immediately filled with sideways glances aimed at him. Xu Ji looked back at each of them triumphantly, self-righteously thinking:
Doesn’t a teammate’s bomb still count as a bomb?
Han Su pretended not to see him and stood up as well.
Since the banquet had ended abruptly, it was indeed the right time to leave while there were still many people around, in hopes of slipping away unnoticed.
If they left later, the search might be more thorough, making it harder to take the mechanical fragment with them.
A group of staff entered to help Wei Lan pack her belongings—her clothing trunks, makeup cases, and all sorts of other items. Just for attending a single banquet, she had brought enough to fill three entire cars.
Compared to Han Su’s simple suit, her cars were much better suited for hiding things.
Han Su didn’t wait for Wei Lan and instead left first in Xu Ji’s car, intending to check ahead to see if inspections were strict.
Unexpectedly, the gates of the Lilac Courtyard were wide open, allowing free departure. There were no inspection personnel, only the female security guard standing coldly at the gate, watching every car and pedestrian pass by without stopping anyone.
Not only did they leave smoothly, but Wei Lan also came out without a hitch.
Han Su felt a twinge of doubt: Why isn’t there even a single inspection?
That female security guard has sharp eyes, but surely they wouldn’t rely on her alone, right?
Compared to the earlier commotion, the Lilac Courtyard now feels like it’s trying to sweep things under the rug…
…
As he pondered, Xu Ji, unable to hold back any longer, turned to Han Su nervously:
“What exactly is your relationship with Wei Lan?”
“Don’t ignore me, brother!”
“Their love is cursed. No queen in history has ever gotten married…”
“Well, there have been those close on both sides, but none of them met a good end…”
“…Enough.”
Han Su, a little annoyed, said, “I’ve only met her three times. What relationship could there be?”
“Or rather, there is some relationship, but not the kind you’re thinking of.”
Xu Ji’s eyes widened. “Then what kind of relationship is it?”
Thinking of that instinctive trust, Han Su’s mind suddenly flashed to the crystal ball in the Coastal Club.
He slowly said, “A relationship more stable than love—same as with you.”
Hearing “same as with you,” Xu Ji’s expression turned completely puzzled. But being someone who never overthought things, he quickly caught the “important” point and seriously asked, “Then is she ranked before me or after me?”
Han Su was speechless for a long moment before finally sighing. “After you.”
Xu Ji was satisfied.
“Find a quiet place up ahead and pull over. Wei Lan has something for me!”
Han Su had no interest in continuing such a conversation with this fool, but since they had left the Lilac Courtyard, he spoke quietly.
The mechanical fragment with Wei Lan didn’t worry him, but it was better to transfer it to his possession as soon as possible.
Mainly because the mechanical fragment’s contamination ability was far beyond imagination.
Wei Lan’s level was certainly high, but in terms of resistance to it, Han Su might actually fare better.
But just as Xu Ji was telling the driver to pull over, the driver said softly, “Young Master, someone’s following us.”
Xu Ji and Han Su both felt a chill in their hearts. “Hm?”
…
…
By now, all the guests had left, and the Lilac Courtyard was empty.
Even with some armed guards still stationed around, the massive complex felt as silent as a grave.
The master of the Lilac Courtyard remained seated on the steps at the main gate, watching every guest leave. The female security guard, after seeing the last guest off, ascended the steps with a cold face and shook her head slightly—she hadn’t seen anything unusual.
Sitting in his wheelchair, the master looked somewhat dispirited, yet showed no intention of going back, merely sitting quietly.
Beside him, the Bulbous-Nosed Man couldn’t hold back. He pulled a small liquor bottle from his pocket, took a swig, and said:
“I really don’t understand you, Old Man…”
“The Crystal Skull Organization’s attack isn’t a small matter. What’s more, they infiltrated the secret room—who knows what they might have stolen.”
“But you won’t let the Disaster Management Bureau intervene, nor do you search what’s being taken out.”
“At your age, sitting out here in the cold wind…”
“…What are you thinking?”
“…”
Hearing him, the female security guard paused, her gaze slightly odd.
Barely half an hour ago, the Bulbous-Nosed Man had been in the room when the Old Man mentioned the mechanical fragment.
Yet now, from his tone, it was as if he had completely forgotten.
Was that mechanical thing truly so strange?
Perhaps tomorrow—or even in the very next moment—she herself might forget all about it too.
“You should go back.”
The Old Man didn’t answer his question, only sighed and said, “Mr. Drunkard, though you were once my student, you’ve already joined the Disaster Management Bureau. You should draw a clear line between yourself and us free agents. What happens in the Lilac Courtyard is none of your concern.”
“Ding Mao, you go back too. Leave me here alone.”
“Tell all the servants that no one is to come here before dawn. Anyone who enters will be buried in the garden.”
“…”
The Bulbous-Nosed Man and the female security guard both froze. One wanted to persuade him, the other was full of questions. But faced with the Old Man’s cold expression, they could only nod slowly before leaving.
The Old Man remained alone, looking at the empty courtyard.
In his heart, there was both anticipation and fear: So… will it be him?
It can only be him…
…
Though there were countless questions in his mind, recalling the posture of that Divine Weapon made his scalp tingle.
Only the heir could survive before an activated Living Bronze Puppet, could make such a weapon remain in a bowed stance.
If the heir has returned… does that mean the Day of the Descent of the Gods, which should have ended ten years ago, has arrived?
But if he’s back, why won’t he see me?
…
Unable to make sense of tonight’s events, he decided not to ask or say anything further.
Only to wait—for the heir to come to him.
…
…
“The Old Man’s hiding something…”
Having left the front hall, the Bulbous-Nosed Man walked slowly toward the Lilac Courtyard’s internal parking lot with the female security guard. He suddenly sneered, “Even you aren’t in his good graces anymore. Whatever was lost in the Ancient Castle, he didn’t even tell you?”
The female security guard frowned. From the Old Man’s behavior, it seemed something serious had happened.
But why wouldn’t he let her ask, or let her get involved?
Had the secret room merely been disturbed by the Crystal Skull Organization without anything stolen, and that was the end of it?
She couldn’t figure it out, and didn’t realize she had already forgotten something. She only said quietly, “The Old Man made himself clear—if he doesn’t want us to ask, then we won’t.”
The Bulbous-Nosed Man took another swig of liquor and got into the driver’s seat. Smiling faintly, he said, “I’m not interested in the Old Man’s matters. I’m more interested in that reckless brat.”
“With his identity, he has no right to attend this banquet, much less mingle with the Xu family’s young master and the Queen Organization’s people. Do you think he’s really qualified to be their friend?”
“If he gets trapped, he won’t even leave bones behind.”
The female security guard understood what he meant. After a brief silence, her eyes flickered and she said softly, “In the spare queen’s car, there were several boxes I couldn’t see through. But the Old Man gave the order—anything I can’t see through, let them take…”
“As expected…”
A sharp glint flashed in the Bulbous-Nosed Man’s eyes as he sneered, “If the Old Man says not to interfere, then we won’t interfere.”
“But really—if we want to know what’s in those boxes, why bother making it so complicated?”
