Jason's only problem with suddenly realizing he had a treasure trove of runes, was that he would need to learn more about the local runic system. After all, his runes worked on a completely different foundation as far as he knew. In NeoRealm each power system had its own set of runes to work with. A ritualist would use Energy based runes, an enchanter has their own Mana based runes, and formation experts get to play around with Qi based runes.
What Jason has however is more generic than that. His power gathering rune gathers all the powers and his other runes manipulated whatever power was flowing through them. As it was, this resulted in Energy being used because it seemed to use his own power as a catalyst which caused the Mana and Qi to be reabsorbed into the Energy.
If that meant he was still just restricted to Energy it would only be a change when introduced to others. However, Jason had a hunch. If he used Mana or Qi to start up the rune, that would be what it would put out. Sure that meant he would need to buy a couple examples of power storage, but it also meant that he would be able to use enchantments and formations that would otherwise require Mana and Qi.
Though as he thinks this over the constant flip flopping of the use for "formation" begins to annoy him. In his last life everything was a formation. Sure, there were some stories of strange beings and their rituals, but even stuff made with other power sources got called formations. In NeoRealm however, formations specifically meant Qi based while enchantments were for Mana and rituals for Energy.
Jason shakes his head and puts it aside. After all, each of them used runes to work and as the runes from his old life proved, they could in theory work with one another. In fact, as he thinks about that another little quirk of his power gathering rune reveals itself. Well, he already knew it, but only now did he realize the importance.
The power gathering rune seemed to be able to gather all three powers and it seemed to convert it all into one type of power after the power was gathered. In NeoRealm the natural environment was constantly shifting towards being only Mana and Qi because those two powers constantly converted any free floating Energy. It is only because the world itself was aligned towards Energy and the leylines kept releasing the stuff that meant any still existed on the surface at all.
Of course there had to be some sort of method that NeoRealm used to convert the other two powers back into Energy, but as far as Jason knew, there wasn't a mortal method for doing that lying around. Not only that, but his hunch pointed towards this not only working to turn the other two into Energy, but rather to turn any two into the third. All it took was some seed power to get it started.

However, that was for later. Right now Jason needed to clean up the campsite and get a move on. Lily had fun getting an extra day to play around as he was pondering these things and trying out stuff, but now he needed to get a move on. Sure, the fact that those monsters had come to attack them meant this area should be safe enough from them, but who knows what else might be lying in wait nearby? So after spending a large amount of time erasing a ton of nonsense he had been carving into the ground, Jason set out.
The area he was traveling through was kind of refreshing. Up until now Jason had basically traveled through two or three types of areas depending on how you count the wasteland. Either plains or heavy forest. Now though the area was more loose. Yes, there were trees, but it wasn't a forest and they were spread out with a few clumps here and there. And yes there were areas of grass fields, but they weren't all encompassing.
There were even some lakes spotted about. Sure, he had gone by creeks and other small water features, but actual lakes had been few and far between. Now though, even the air felt damp. Not humid mind you, rather it felt like being near a large body of water even though Jason knew there wasn't such a thing in the area. So since the map didn't show any bodies of water there must just be an absolute ton of small lakes and streams.
Not that Jason minded, though after the salamanders, having to jump over streams so often felt a little nerve wracking. Yes, he could see the bottom of the streams, but no one said that fear had to make sense. Still, overall the area was calm and relaxing.
That, however, didn't mean free of monsters. In fact, Jason was very much aware of the local top of the food chain. They just lived at the very center of all these lakes. In fact, Jason wouldn't put it past the world for these monsters to be the source of all the lakes. After all, while a little hard to tell, Jason over all noticed that the bigger the lake, the older the monsters.
This could either mean that like a hermit crab, when one of the monsters got big enough they would switch to a bigger lake. It could also mean that as the monster got older, the more they expanded their lake. Jason however was willing to bet on that second one.
His guess partly came from the fact there were some empty lakes here and there. Sure, they might just be empty at the moment, but Jason was going to guess the local monster had died. More of a blind guess though was the fact that the monsters looked shockingly like a perfect fusion of a beaver and a frog. There weren't any dams around despite the beaver-like appearance and yet Jason wasn't willing to bet that the lakes came from nowhere.
