The Smiling Death

Chapter 99: Imperial Capital City Mordheim

The two of them exited Arcadia Academy together. The streets of Elarith were lively as always filled with carriages, merchants closing their shops, and students returning from the city.

The evening breeze carried the scent of roasted food and faint traces of mana from the city lamps.

As they walked through the bustling streets, Amon glanced around. "So, where exactly is this teleportation gate?"

"It's located in the city's central district," Selena answered. "Inside a facility managed by the Mage Association. Don't worry, I've already arranged everything."

"You even arranged it beforehand? Wow, senior, you're really prepared."

"Of course," she said smoothly. "The royal palace doesn't tolerate carelessness."

After a few minutes of walking, the crowd around them began to thin. They approached a large white stone building with runic engravings glowing faintly in blue across its surface.

Guards stood by the gate's entrance, and a faint hum of mana vibrated through the air.

Amon could feel the sheer density of magic as they stepped closer. "So this is the teleportation gate, huh…" he murmured in awe. "Feels like standing inside a thunderstorm of mana."

"Stay close," Selena instructed, walking confidently toward the gatekeeper.

The guard recognized her immediately and bowed. "Princess Selena. Your passage has been authorized. The gate is ready for use."

Selena nodded gracefully. "Good. We'll depart now."

The guard stepped aside, and the massive circular gate ahead of them began to glow brighter. Complex runes activated in sequence, and a swirling vortex of pale blue light opened in the center.

'It look similar to the gate for dungeon. I had enter it during dungeon practice'he thought.

Amon stared at it with both curiosity and excitement. "That looks… a bit scary."

Selena glanced back at him. "It's perfectly safe — as long as you don't move during the transfer."

He gulped. "That sounds like something dangerous people say before something goes wrong."

She gave him a calm but amused look. "You'll be fine."

Taking a deep breath, Amon followed her as they both stepped onto the glowing platform. The light expanded, wrapping around their bodies.

"Next stop," Selena said softly, her voice steady even as the air shimmered.

"The Imperial City," Amon finished with a grin.

In the next instant-

Woosh!

A burst of blinding light engulfed them, and their figures vanished from Elarith.

---

They step out of the teleportation portal.but not in that of Elarith City. But the Imperial Capital city. Mordheim.

They left the teleportation gateway. As they exit it, there was a luxurious car was already waiting for them at the gate.

An old man was standing near it in dignified pose. Amon and Selena walked towards him.

The old man with white hatred and some wrinkles on his face, put his hand on his chest and bow resperespectfully to Selena in nighty degree.

"Welcome back, Your Highness. It is an honor to see you return safely."

Selena nodded.

"Good to see you as well, Uncle Bernard." Selena responded. Her tone was calm. It can be seen that she knew him for a long time.

Bernard smile warmly at her. Then he turned to Amon. His expression turned respectful.

"And you might Be Sir Amon. I welcome you with my utmost respect."

On the other side Amon who was busy in observing his surrounded, get out of his daze.

"Uh- Yes. Nice to meet you as well."

Amon replied. But he was more focus on the city ahead.

Then Bernard opened the back door for Selena and Amon.

Both of them sat inside the mana car.

Car started to move. Amon watched the city from window.

The Imperial Capital, Mordheim, stood as the heart of Valmoria — a sprawling masterpiece of stone and mana, where history and magic intertwined beneath the same sky.

Towering spires of white marble reached high into the clouds, their tips engraved with glowing runes that shimmered faintly at dusk.

The streets below were paved with polished granite, lined with elegant lamps fueled by mana crystals, casting soft blue light through the night.

Massive walls surrounded the city — thick, enchanted barriers said to have withstood countless wars and even dragonfire. At the center of it all rose the Imperial Palace, a breathtaking citadel of gold and crimson, its domes gleaming like the sun itself. It was said the palace was built atop ancient ley lines, where mana pulsed strongest in the entire continent.

But Mordheim was not just glory and splendor. In the distance beyond the main districts, the narrow alleys twisted into darker corners, the Lower Quarters, where the scent of iron, smoke, and secrecy lingered. Merchants, adventurers, and nobles all mingled here, bound by ambition and greed alike.

It was a city of power, beautiful, dangerous, and alive. A place where dreams could be forged… or shattered in silence.

The mana car glided silently through the wide streets of Mordheim, its faint hum blending with the soft murmur of evening life outside. Amon leaned against the window, his dark eyes reflecting the glow of passing mana lamps.

The city was unlike anything he had ever seen. Tall, rune-engraved towers stood alongside graceful bridges that arched over canals glowing faintly with mana flow. Airships drifted high above the skyline, their sails shimmering like starlight.

"It really is something else…" he murmured under his breath.

Selena turned her head slightly, a faint smile playing on her lips. "It's said that Mordheim never sleeps. Every light you see runs on mana drawn from the ley lines beneath the city. Even the walls breathe magic."

Amon gave a low whistle. "No wonder everything looks so… alive."

Bernard, seated in front, chuckled softly. "That's the pride of our Empire, young sir. The heart of civilization — and power."

As the car continued, the lively streets began to change. The bustling noise of merchants and crowds faded, replaced by calm and order.

The roads grew wider, cleaner. Elegant buildings and lush gardens appeared on both sides. Soldiers in gleaming armor stood guard at intervals, their spears shining under the lamplight.

Amon's gaze followed the upward slope of the road. The city stretched out below them, bathed in golden-orange light from the setting sun. And far ahead, sitting atop a great hill like a crown, was the Imperial Palace.

It was breathtaking.

Dozens of towers rose from its vast structure, their tips glowing faintly with divine runes. The outer walls were crafted from white stone streaked with gold, and enormous banners bearing the royal crest fluttered gently in the wind.

A shimmering barrier of mana surrounded the palace — subtle yet powerful, making the air itself feel heavy with authority.

"That's… the Imperial Palace?" Amon asked, awe slipping into his voice.

Selena nodded. "Home of the Empress Celestia Aurellian— and mine as well."

As they approached the gates, a formation of royal knights stood at attention, their armor engraved with radiant sigils. The massive golden gates opened slowly with a resonant clank, revealing a long, lantern-lit path leading toward the palace's grand entrance.

The car passed through the gates, rolling along the polished stone road. Amon couldn't help but feel a strange mix of excitement and tension as the palace loomed closer.

The scent of blooming mana-roses drifted in through the window. The faint hum of enchantments echoed in the air — everything about this place screamed power, prestige, and secrets buried deep beneath its shining walls.

He exhaled slowly.

"So this is where the royals live… huh. Not bad."

Selena smiled faintly at his casual remark, hiding her amusement.

"Just remember," she said softly, her tone calm yet firm. "Behind every shining wall… there's always a shadow."

Amon glanced at her, a smirk tugging at his lips.

"Then I guess I'll feel right at home....but Senior that sound little cringe just now"

The car rolled up the final stretch of the road and came to a stop before the palace's grand steps, where royal attendants and guards were already waiting to receive them.

"Senior Selena....damn you are so rich...." Amon was fascinated by the grand palace. The whole city.

His Senior was too rich. Well She's princess afterall.

The marble floor beneath the car shimmered faintly, reflecting the golden glow of the palace lights. Two armored knights stepped forward, opening the car door with practiced precision.

Selena was the first to step out. Her calm presence alone seemed to shift the air — servants straightened their backs, heads lowering even deeper.

"Welcome home, Your Highness!" they greeted in unison, their voices echoing softly through the vast courtyard.

Selena gave a graceful nod, her tone serene. "You may rise."

Then Amon stepped out behind her.

Immediately, curious glances flickered among the servants. He was clearly not a noble. His academy uniform, pale skin, and sharp gaze made him stand out among the well-dressed attendants. But none dared to speak; Selena's presence demanded silence.

'Wait why I feel out. I mean Selena had wore Uniform as well!' He thought.

Amon scratched his cheek, a bit awkward under all the stares. "Uh… fancy place," he muttered under his breath.

Selena caught his words but pretended not to hear, walking forward with her usual composed grace. Bernard followed behind them, maintaining a respectful distance.

Amon was going to eneter the Imperial Palace now.
