It was Sunday.
Tomorrow it would be Amon and the first-year students Practical Exam.
No information had been given about it yet. Would it be just sparring matches? Or would it be some ability showing?
Or could it be fighting against the professors?
Amon tried to remember the academy novels he had read in his past life, but he couldn't remember them well. It had been more than seventeen years since he was reborn in this world.
Well, putting those thoughts aside, Amon enjoyed his coffee.
Yes, he was currently drinking coffee.
After practicing so much for a week, Amon had finally learned those two spells.
Amon wanted to cry, but he couldn't. This was just the start. He would learn more in the future. Become stronger in the future.
He brought the cup of coffee to his lips.
Sip~
The hot and sweet taste filled his mouth.
He didn't like bitter coffee. He only drank the sugary one.
'I need to go for training again. It's so hard… my body is tired, to be honest, but I won't stop,' Amon thought. His expression was serious; there was no playfulness in it. If he needed to survive in this world, then he had to become stronger.
His grip tightened around his coffee cup.
A very rare expression was on his face. For the first time, he was acting like some reincarnated or transmigrated main character.
But the world didn't want it.
"What happened to this guy? He's acting weird," Marcus, who was sitting across from Amon, said with a frown.
It was new. To see the commoner guy not smiling.
Sip~
Eliana sipped her coffee from beside Marcus. A mischievous smile curved on her lips.
"He's just being dramatic. Amon, stop making that face. You look so funny… hehe~" she giggled, her blue eyes curving.
Seraphina, who was sitting beside Amon, also looked at him with worry.
'These guys won't let me act like some protagonist.' The realization hit very hard. His seriousness looked weird to these three people.
As if he was someone else.
His face crumbled, and he sighed tiredly.
"Hah!… Can't you let me be like a cool man for once?"
They were all sitting in a café. The reason? There was none. Eliana had randomly called Amon for coffee with Seraphina before tomorrow's exam to relax a little.
Amon, who had been in the training ground, came without a second thought. It was free, so of course, he needed to go.
On the way, he met the tsundere arrogant young master, so he brought him as well. That was a hard mission, though. But he still succeeded.
The soft lights fell over them through the glass wall of the café.
"You and cool? Delusional. Stop dreaming," Marcus scoffed at him with a smirk. His hands were folded, arrogance itching on his face.
"Damn you, bastard!" Amon cursed.
Yes, the noble boy didn't feel angry; rather, he liked to see this commoner get irritated.
A soft palm patted Amon's back.
Suddenly, he felt relaxed.
"It's alright, Amon. It's just that you don't act like this… so we got worried," Seraphina said softly from beside him. Her long golden-blonde hair was loose and straight. Her face was expressionless, yet there was cuteness to it.
Amon's lips trembled. This girl was too sweet.
"Oh, my Sera~. Only you care about me."
Seraphina's ears turned soft pink. She had told Amon so many times not to call her that, yet he wouldn't listen.
Eliana giggled from across, while Marcus just clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"By the way, what do you think our exam will be about?" Eliana changed the topic to a serious one.
Seraphina took her hand back from Amon.
Amon felt sad about that.
Seraphina's eyes looked at them. "I think it will be dungeon exploration with teams… but that was for last year's. Maybe they will change it."
Amon also joined the conversation as they talked about tomorrow's practical exam.
---
After the small talk with his friends, Amon was back in the training hall.
He raised his hand calmly. Darkness gathered smoothly around his palm, swirling in perfect rhythm with his breathing. No flickering, no instability.
"Eclipse Bolt," he said firmly.
The black orb formed instantly. Dense and compact. With a sharp motion, he released it. The projectile shot forward, cutting through the air before colliding with the target in a clean, silent burst of shadow energy. A small explosion appeared. The crystal cracked, smoke rising faintly.
Amon exhaled, a small grin forming. "Perfect."
He closed his eyes for a second, summoning his shadow element again. The dark mass rippled across the floor, shaping into a stable figure beside him.
This time, the mirage didn't waver or fade. It stood solid, mimicking his stance almost perfectly.
"Grim Mirage," Amon muttered with satisfaction. "Finally under control."
He walked a few steps forward, the mirage following in sync. A soft chuckle escaped his lips. "Not bad at all."
Then he dismissed the mirage and pulled out his sword. The familiar weight of the blade in his hand steadied his breath. He began to move. Slashes cutting through the air with smooth precision. Each swing flowed naturally into the next, his footwork sharp and balanced.
He performed the first form of his sword art.
After several rounds, he switched to his hatchet. The weapon gleamed darkly under the light. With focused eyes, he threw it toward the training dummies. Each strike hitting dead center before he recalled it with a flick of shadow surrounding it.
Finally, he drew his revolver, spinning it once around his finger before aiming. The mana bullets fired in rapid sequence, each shot bursting against the targets with a satisfying thud.
When he stopped, the hall was filled with silence once again. Amon stood still, breathing heavily but smiling faintly.
"Magic, sword, hatchet, revolver…" he murmured, glancing at the cracked targets. "All working together now."
He sheathed his weapons, the dark gleam in his eyes matching the faint light from the fading crystals.
"Not bad, Amon Vale," he said to himself with a smirk. "You're finally getting somewhere."
Now Amon felt like he was ready for tomorrow's practical exam.
