Seeing Sun Zheng appear once more, Li Liping's face turned livid. With a heavy snort, she didn't even bother to lift her head. It seemed Sun Zheng didn't notice Li Liping either, his attention solely focused on Lin Feng.
Sun Zheng, however, carried himself with an air of nonchalance. Without waiting for Lin Feng to agree, he casually popped the cap off the baijiu bottle and poured drinks into two empty cups.
If an onlooker were to chance upon the scene, they might mistake him for Lin Feng's good friend, thinking he was proposing a toast.
But Lin Feng knew better. Sun Zheng wasn't the type to extend such courtesies; he was clearly there to make him drink. Just moments ago, the erected screen had been a slap in Sun Zheng's face. He wouldn't be so magnanimous.
"Thank you, I'm merely a fellow alumnus of Li Liping," Lin Feng said with a faint smile, gracefully accepting the cup Sun Zheng handed him. He wanted to see what tricks this bastard had up his sleeve.
Sun Zheng was taken aback. He hadn't expected Lin Feng to be so modest. Usually, any man fortunate enough to dine at the same table as Li Liping would have started boasting. Even if they didn't say it outright, they'd subtly hint at a special relationship with her. Lin Feng, however, was different. Not only did he deny any such connection, but he also seemed to be actively trying to hide it.
Thinking this, Sun Zheng found Lin Feng somewhat less irritating. At least he only dared to admit to being Li Ping's fellow alumnus; their relationship probably wasn't anything deeper. Perhaps he was an admirer of the beautiful woman accompanying Li Ping?
"No need for explanations, we all get it. If the feelings run deep, bottoms up! I'll drink first as a sign of respect!" Sun Zheng declared, standing where he was. He tilted his head back and downed the glass of baijiu.
Lin Feng responded with a faint smile and followed suit, draining his cup.
"Well done! That's the spirit! Now that we're acquainted, we're friends. Let's, as brothers, have another drink!" Sun Zheng gave Lin Feng no opportunity to object. As he spoke, he had already poured another round. He held one cup out to Lin Feng and raised his own, saying, "Brother, I'll drink first again, out of respect."
Cao Ying watched Lin Feng with some concern. She was about to say something when Lin Feng waved his hand, signaling he was fine, and joined Sun Zheng in another glass.
Li Liping suddenly found the situation rather interesting. Sun Zheng had no time to harass her; instead, he was locked in a drinking contest with Lin Feng. What a rare sight!
After two cups of strong baijiu, Sun Zheng's face was slightly flushed. But his tolerance was good; this amount of alcohol didn't affect his thinking or actions. Soon, he topped up their glasses again and said with a hearty laugh, "There's a saying: 'A full cup of tea is rude to guests, but wine should be drunk for at least three rounds!' Brother, let's have another! We'll only be true brothers after one more cup!"
Sun Zheng had spent his youth in debauchery. He had learned no other skills, only the art of drinking, a skill he'd honed through a combination of natural talent and diligent practice. Normally, he could drink up to 1.5 liters without passing out. He hated Lin Feng for making him lose face with the screen incident, so he planned to make Lin Feng lose face through drinking.
This style of drinking was called 'quick drinking.' They downed three cups consecutively, giving the opponent no time to eat any food. An average person might be feeling quite muddled by now. Even Sun Zheng himself was starting to sweat a bit, but seeing Lin Feng's calm expression and clear eyes, he knew this guy was a tough opponent.
Suddenly, Sun Zheng raised his hand high and waved it. A group of men from the other side of the hall, each carrying a bottle of baijiu, came over. Apparently, Sun Zheng and a few of his friends had been dining together. He had happened to see Li Liping and slipped over to greet her, while his other friends stayed behind, ready to watch him show off his prowess. Who would have thought that in the end, Lin Feng's move would make a fool of him? Sun Zheng's friends giggled amongst themselves, their eyes holding a mix of genuine and feigned ridicule for Sun Zheng.
"TSK TSK, Sun Zheng, is this the great spectacle you invited us to see? Damn it, I nearly died laughing just now..."
"Is this how you flirt? Forcing people to use screens to block the view, hilarious..."
"Speechless. Did you scare the girl away because you're too ugly...?"
"Chen Dong, Zhang Shu, Wang Da..." After Sun Zheng briefly introduced them, he continued, "Meeting like this is a kind of fate. Drinking with too few people is boring. Why don't our two tables compete? Lin Feng, what do you think?"
There were four men at Sun Zheng's table. At Lin Feng's table, besides himself, there were only Cao Ying and Li Liping, two beautiful women. No matter how bad things got, Lin Feng couldn't possibly let women drink for him. So Sun Zheng's meaning was clear: he wanted to pit four men against Lin Feng alone!
Recognizing their intent to get Lin Feng drunk, Cao Ying took Lin Feng's hand and implored, "Lin Feng, don't drink with them... you'll have to drive later!"
"Yes, Lin Feng, don't drink with them. They're just a bunch of useless drunks. They have no other skills; drinking is their only strength. You can't outdrink them!" Li Liping chimed in to caution Lin Feng.
"Brother, you can't hide behind women forever and expect to grow up," Sun Zheng sneered at Lin Feng, continuing his provocation. "I see you're also an expert drinker. We're not trying to determine a winner or loser, just having a few casual drinks to relax! You wouldn't be scared of even this, would you?"
"I'm alright..." Lin Feng said with a smile to the two women, then glanced at Sun Zheng and said with a faint smile, "Sun Zheng, don't take me for a fool. Do you think I don't know what tricks you're trying to pull? I won't just drink and play with you. Let's make a bet!"
"Oh? How would you like to bet?" Sun Zheng's eyes gleamed, and he asked with a chuckle.
"I'll drink against you all! The wager shall be our car keys. It's me against the four of you. Whichever side can't drink anymore loses. Whoever holds out to the end wins, and the winner takes the cars. Dare to make the bet?" Lin Feng waved his car key and said with a faint smile.
"Lin Feng..." Upon hearing Lin Feng propose a drinking bet with Sun Zheng and his group, Cao Ying became even more anxious, her face flushed. She wasn't worried about Lin Feng losing his car; she was worried that Lin Feng, by forcing himself to outdrink four heavy drinkers, might have an accident.
"Oh... a Volkswagen? I've never really seen a car of this caliber before…" Sun Zheng snickered, a look of disdain in his eyes. He casually pulled out a BMW car key from his pocket and said to Lin Feng, "I just grabbed any old wreck from my garage tonight. It's not great, but it's still a bit better than your Volkswagen! However, since you're taking on all four of us alone, I don't mind letting you have a little advantage... But who will witness this bet?"
"With two beauties present, naturally they'll act as the witnesses..." Lin Feng said with a chuckle, gesturing towards Cao Ying and Li Liping.
"Perfect, could we impose on Li Ping and this lady..." Sun Zheng smiled gracefully at Li Liping and Cao Ying, not realizing that Cao Ying was Li Liping's cousin.
Ignoring Sun Zheng, Li Liping and Cao Ying both pulled out their phones, opened their voice recorders, and had Lin Feng and Sun Zheng repeat the terms of the bet, recording it all.
