BEYOND THE BLAZE

Chapter 70: AN AMBUSH

Everyone was gone; the arena was left with a nice breeze flowing around. Akirion went back outside with Elina and helped the others.

Suddenly, the sun started to disappear, black clouds surrounding it, closing every single dot that could land the light to the ground.

"The what? It's about to rain?" one of the pupils asked, his eyes facing the black sky. The clouds were looking scary, making kids think that it was about to rain a heavy rain that would destroy anyone outside.

"It was sunny a second ago; where did these clouds come from?" another girl asked too, her face pale with astonishment as she glared at the sky.

"This is not good; we are not done yet. We should clear up this place fast; our furniture would be destroyed if it rains on top of it." another girl warned as she tried to run, carrying a table.

'Damn, this dark sky is giving me chills. I don't know what it means to have a heavy rain a minute after the sky was clear.' Akirion thought, his eyes glued to the sky while narrowed. He continued, "We should hurry up before it starts raining, guys," he said, motivating the others to carry the furniture fast.

The sun was nowhere to be seen; the clouds filled the sky in an instant, leaving the students taken aback. The place was turning dark as if the sun had already set.

'This looks familiar; my mind is in bad shape, but I know that I've seen it somewhere.' Akirion thought, his tired mind raced, searching every corner of his head to find a clue about the cloud, but he failed.

The kids ran with the furniture from the arena, going to the classrooms.

Suddenly, an irritating smell flooded the whole grounds.

The kids started to close their noses with pieces of clothes as the smell filled the whole place up.

"The what? This smell—I've smelled it before. Where? Where? Where? Think, Akie, think!" Akirion said, his hand holding his chin, his mind racing. His eyes were hanging in the middle of the air trying to think; other students ran around with their hands occupied with the school furniture.

'Mhhhhhhhh, think, think, think!' "Akirion silently said," his hand scratching his head.

Suddenly, his eyes widened as they moved from where they were stuck. He suddenly took a hard, deep breath, creating a gasp that got Elina, who was with him like a bodyguard.

"What's wrong, Akie? What happened? Elina shot her glance at Akirion, her face filled with concern, her eyes widened as she was filled by astonishment of the sudden gasp.

'This smell, it's familiar to the one that I smelt during the ambush we got 5 years ago, the time when Mom and Dad died!' Akirion silently said, referring to the smell of monsters that they have.

"Akirion, what's wrong? , what happened to you?"

"Nothing really, just that this smell, this smell, I know it; I've smelled it before!" Akirion paused, his eyes widened, and astonishment filled his heart as it fastly raced. Suddenly his eyes narrowed, and his voice changed as it deepened, and he said, "I hope it's not what I think it is!"

"Huh!" Elina's eyes widened, her eyes darting as astonishment roamed around her body. Her heart thudded like a war drum, while her mind was blank, with no idea of what Akirion meant.

"What do you mean, Akie? What's wrong? Please say something!" she said in panic, her heart thudding, her breath cut off, all the stability as the surprise filled her up. She started panting as she saw Akirion standing idle without any movement, his teeth gritted, while he remained silent without any replies.

"Damn!…" "Akirion said," his teeth angrily gritted.

"At last, you finally said something, but what do you mean, damn?" Elina asked, her eyes narrowed, expecting an answer.

"If I'm not wrong… it's a monster!" He said, his voice deepened, and his eyes narrowed, looking at the black sky.

"A, a, a monster?" She stammered, her heart skipped a bit as a scary energy blew her beautiful whitish hair.

"Yes, it can only be one. The last time I smelled it was the time I and my family got ambushed. So it can only mean it's a monster!" Akirion's face remained furiously looking, his eyes narrowed, with his teeth gritted. His heart was thudding inside his chest as fear flooded his body.

"This is bad; I can't even shoot a lot of fireballs, dammit!" 'I was going to try fighting it since I don't know its skills.' Akirion added, feeling his body, which was filled with fatigue.

Elina was speechless; her body collapsed, her eyes darting around with panic as her mind flooded with scary monster shock.

The others continued carrying the furniture inside; suddenly, a loud thudding noise erupted in the ground, causing a lot of force of air to blow around the place, blowing dust up.

Some suddenly closed their eyes as the dust erupted from the ground, filling the whole place up.

The smell increased as it flooded the whole place. Eyes were glued to the stage, waiting for the dust to fade away for a clear vision.

A scary brown aura loomed around the stage as the dust slowly faded away. The stage was the one that started to be seen. Suddenly, 2 feet were identified on the stage.

The feet were looking scary with a brownish hard crust covering up its feet, including its legs. The crust wasn't only found on the feet; it was the skin of that thing.

The dust disappeared, leaving a human-like thing standing on the ground, its white and brown eyes glaring at the students that were surrounding the stage. Its mouth had one fang that was pointing upwards.

Its ugliness caused gasps that were heard all around the place as they looked at the scary guy who had his body standing straight, his eyes scaring the kids.

The skies remained dark, as if it was going to rain. The kids thought of ignoring the new guy; they continued their work of carrying the furniture.

One of them said, "Sup dude?" while passing by. Its scary face turned to the young man, and it started its job.
