Adventures of the last Wild Dragon

Chapter 84: Monkey Mayhem

A series of explosions rang out as the volley of void bolts struck the lead monkey. The fog swirled violently blocking vision of the outcome of that first salvo, yet the mood was struck and violence soon erupted all around.

Howls of the monkeys comrades rang out and the cacophonous series of howls, cry's and bellows of Violet's beasts rose to meet the challenge. In the next moment numerous shapes rushed out of the surrounding fog to engage the party in battle.

Violet too charged forward, intending to ensure that the poop slinger was truly dead. However, when she arrived at the spot she thought it should be their was no sign of the beast. Growling in annoyance she instead turned around to go help out the rest with the battle.

Luna met the charge of one of the monkeys, its size was quite intimidating with it standing a good 7ft tall, its body rippled with corded muscles hidden just beneath the ethereal fur that coated its skin. It moved in a strange flowing way that seemed to dance with the fog and made its movements quite hard to follow.

Well it would be hard for a regular beast Luna supposed, for her however. Well she unleashed a multi strike and instantly priced the stomach, shoulder and finally the head of the beast. Its face was contorted in a expression of utter shock that she had been able to hit it so effortlessly, yet it didn't change the fact of the matter. And in only a few moments since the battle started one of the monkeys fell to the ground dead.

Or at least that's what Luna thought would happen, yet when the body hit the ground instead of just laying there, its body began to fade away into yet more mist. And within seconds their was no trace of the body ever being there in the first place.

Frowning at that discovery Luna nevertheless didn't stop her movements and was soon engaged with yet another foe. She did let Violet know about the strange happenings through their bond, Luna had felt Violet's frustration at not being able to find her original foe so hoped that revelation would ease her annoyance. With a small smile on her lips at the feeling of confused relief from her companion, Luna dove right back into the mayhem, her spear singing as it cut through flesh.

With Luna informing Violet about the nature of these annoying monkeys she couldn't help but think back to the shadow horrors they had fought all the way back in the first domain. They had been summoned by another creature and similarly had disappeared upon defeat. She couldn't help but see the similarities between the two foes and guessed that it might be a similar case.

She was unsure how to go about finding the true culprits of this attack, until she spotted a blade of wind tear through a monkey and momentarily blow away the fog in that location.

With a grin she followed the trajectory of the blade back to a particular cat. Said cat was standing near the center of the group with the eagle and both of them were firing off wind blade and wind blade at the encroaching monkeys.

An idea was forming in her head about how to find the true foe and it involved these two beasts that were attuned to wind, which seemed to be the natural counter to this fog, similar to how her void had been the natural counter to the shadows. Now she just had to figure out how she could go about informing them of her plan.

She wracked her brain for how she could go about this until the realisation hit her, if she had hands she would surely have just slapped herself in the face out of annoyance. After all she did have the telepathy skill, she had just yet to use it in a single one of her beast allies for some reason.

Whilst she probabally should give that some thought about why she didn't want to convers with these beasts that had been following her all this time, now was most defiantly not the correct time for introspection. So instead she sent out a mental tether to both the cat and eagle as she activated her telepathy skill.

Sashan was having a very strange and tiring day. Granted she knew that deciding to accept the great ones challenge for claiming the star fruit would be quite the ordeal. Yet she had not expected it to go this way, for her to be unable to fly freely through the air was just the first of many insults that she had been assaulted with.

Sashan had witnessed much larger avians try to battle the dire winds that dominated the Skys only to watch as their bodies were crushed under the winds fury. Seeing that had convinced her to limit her flying where possible.

Then she had to delve through the land of accursed shadows, then one of lightning. It was within the lightning field that she had first noticed the dragon. The beast of void was moving forwards and battling the elementals just as all other beasts there, yet the dragon had seen fit to aid others where possible. Sashan herself had been saved by a timely bolt that struck a foe she had been unaware of.

From there she had separated, only to meet up once more with the same dragon and her strange two legged companion within the fire domain. From there she had been led across the river of molten rock, and once more grouped up to traverse the void of elemental islands.

She had joined the other beasts in following the dragon she they were led through the hoards of beasts that challenged them at every turn. Upon witnessing her slay the titan of earth Sashan was convinced of her decision to follow the true tyrant of the Skys.

Whilst she herself had never seen a dragon before, she knew of them from her inherited memories. Dragons were the true monarchs of both the land and sky, yet were thought to be gone from this world. She had wanted to disregard the ingrained memories yet upon witnessing the terrifying might of the young dragon Sashan knew them to be true.

So when they finally crossed the elemental islands she made a promise to never cross the fearsome beast and hope that she could aid it in its goal. So when they found themselves in a jungle of mist being assaulted by strange monkeys that were not, she had observed the dragon effortlessly slay many of them. Yet she frozen when she looked over once more only to see two piercing violet eyes gazing straight back at her.

However, that was not the end of the scares she received that day. For what happened next elevated both her respect and fear of the beast to new levels.

From seemingly nowhere a voice echoed out from within her own head. It was a bright voice that spoke of youth and innocence, yet held a firm resolve that dared any to challenge her. Their was no true language or words being spoken, not that Sashan knew any true language, yet she understood the words perfectly.

"Cat and eagle, I need you both with raise a gale. Blow away this fog and help me find the true foes that hide within its depths."

The words hammered into sash and mind with unyielding pressure, not a request at all. No this was a command. Given with that assurance that it would be carried out, for just as suddenly as the voice arrived it left. And the dragon turned back around once more to do battle with the monkeys of the mist.

Sashan glanced to her side as saw the cat of wind besides her also looked to be in a state of mild shock and it was staring at the back of the mighty dragon. Yet after a moment the two locked gaze and knew, they had a gale to stir up.
